Red Faction is a great game. All of the levels are action packed and keep me interested in playing further. And to the reviewer below me stating the game does not work on a slim ps2- apparently it does work on my system.

the multiplayer here is worth it! lots of fun and quite similar to goldeneye on 64. my copy has some strange glitch that prevents me from finishing the game(it freezes on a load screen) but this problem is probably just my copy.
The game loads up for multiplayer really fast for a game this old. The geomod is a cool feature. Blowing up stuff is always fun. Bottom line, this is the best shooter you can find for a price this low.

Red Faction is a great game overall, but it has a lack of levels. Also, the controls are terrible. DOn't listen to the other reviewers, the game is not the best and the Geomod mode is really dumb, since it's just looks like a rock cutting into a wall. Worth it if you like half-life, but not for unreal tournament lovers. not a good game overall, though.

red faction is a really good game with a few major flaws. one, the last few levels of the game are extremely difficult, the mercs are almost impossible to beat and you better save immediately after every encounter. two, a rail gun that has a one shot kill and can travel through walls. its a cool idea but you can be just walkin around and then you'll see a flash of blue through a wall and the games over. and three, geo-mod isn't as usefull as you'd think, there are hardly ever moments where you even need it.

Over the years I have played Wolfenstein, Doom I and II, Quake I and II, HalfLife, and Unreal Tournament. First person shooters are my favorite game type, and this is my favorite one yet. The graphics are really great, and playing on a 46" Sony big screen with a full-blown surround system is much more fun than playing on a 19" computer monitor.

I find that the Dual Shock 2 controller lends itself very well to this game. The left analog stick controls your feet. You can go forward, back, left, right, and even diagonally. The farther you push the stick, the faster your man runs. The right analog stick controls the direction your man is looking (left, right, up, down) and is also sensitive to how far you push the stick. The control is really fantastic, and it is easy to get complex angles working in your favor.

The weapons are pretty good, but nothing really stands out as being ground breaking.

The new Geo Mod feature is really cool, as you can use your surroundings as a weapon. For example, shoot a rocket at a pillar, and it becomes a fragment grenade in effect. If you like any of the shooter games I mentioned earlier, there is no reason you will not like Red Faction. Recommended without reservation.

Let me first say that this game is great! ... This game is fun!

The sound effects of your weapons is flawless! If you have a "digital dolby" television, then the sound effects will knock your socks off! Not only that, but this game leans towards a very realistic mission. For example, if you have ever played a game like Resident Evil 3, you might have gotten frustated when you had to search for keys to open certain doors, even though you had a freaking shot gun that could blow the door open! Not a problem with Red Faction! If the door is malfunctioned and cannot open, you take some C4 explosives and blow a whole around the door! Can't find a way out? Take your rocket launcher and put a hole in the wall...make your own exit! The game's details are great, because when you drop a grenade or cause any kind of explosive damage, you see the results of your damage with cracks and holes in the wall!

Another great feature is the fact that you can use some vehicles like a submarine that shoots torpedoes, a jeep, and a plane! The storyline can get a little cheesy, but it doesn't matter, because you'll never get tired of this game! One thing that I would have liked to see with Red Faction is the details of people exploding when you shoot them at close range, similar to Quake 3. But overall, this game rocks!

this games is probably one of the best 1st person shooter i have ever seen. The only problem with this game is that there are no checkpoints or continues. Once you die, you are dead. Otherewise, this is one of the most interactive game ever made.

I purchased this game about four days after it came out after reading nothing but positive reviews about it. I discovered, after an extensive search of the city for anyone with the game in stock, that my efforts were definitly not in vain. "Red Faction" has turned out to be one of the best first-person shooters that I have ever played. The graphics are just gorgeous. The ejected shell casings are a nice touch, and you can even hear different sounds with them hitting stone, dirt, or metal. Also, the reload graphics are incredible, especially on the Automatic Shotgun, in which the shells are inserted one by one, then the first shells are slid into the firing chamber. Also featured on this game is the most realistic experience of firing a gun that I have ever seen on any videogame. The kick is totally relative to the caliber of the bullets being fired, and is especially noticeable on the Submachine gun, in which the kick varies from the selectable 12mm or 5.56 NATO rounds. One of my favorite features of this game is the amazingly realistic "down-time" between actually pulling the trigger and the bullet hitting the target (especially noticeable on long-range shots using the Precision Rifle or the Sniper Rifle). All in all, if you are lucky enough to own a Sony Playstation 2, this is definitly a game that you will want to check out. It is practically epic.

as of august 22, 2001, red faction is the best video game in history this geo-mod technologies is going places when they say you can blow up anything, they mean anything you can dig tunnels throught walls, or, this is my personal favorite, dig a 1/2 way through a canyon wall and wait w/ a rail driver the last time i saw a gun like this was in perfect dark a scope that goes through an infinite number of walls AND MY GOD I LOVE IT! i was barely able to pull myself away from the game long enough to write this review altough that's probably the high-point of the weapons, there are other aspects to the game in single-player, you can take control of a 2 jeeps, a submarine, 2 space-ships, and some wierd hole digging thing almost all of which can be used to both run over and shoot people, (go ahead, take your pick) if you're still reading this, you should already be in your car and on the way to the store GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GO BUY THIS GAME!

Red Faction is the BEST first person shooter for any video game console hands down,and is easily one of the best games so far for the PS2. The levels are long, and there are a ton of things to explore, including passageways opened up by your rocket launcher, thanks to the Geo Mod technology.
Graphically, this game is great. There is a ton of detail everywhere you look. The variety of weapons is great. The gameplay is very easy to get used to, and the story pulls you in even more. I really can't say enough good things about this game. It truly deserves 6 stars! It is a blast to play!!
Highly recommended!!!
