Very Disappointing

This was one of the first games that I had purchased for the PS2. I really love role playing games, and this just didn't meet my expectations. The graphics are more like PS, or even compariable to Super Nintendo. Wouldn't even consider to buy this if I had known what it was like before hand.

I can not believe that this game was this bad.....

Summoner is NOT worth the money that you will spend on this game. It's graphics are not good as they could be with this new system. I have a few of the other new games and so far they both are better than summoner. Ever Grace is ALOT better. It has a better story line and it is alot more fun to play. Just thought that I would let everyone know before they waste their money.

To Whome it may Concern

Has anyone other than me noticed that all the bad costumer reviews on here seem to be written by the same person?

And why do they keep referring to Dreamcast titles?

Is it because they know the potential of the Playstation 2 over Dreamcast and afraid that their little world surrounding the console is about to crash? Or is it the fact that they work for Sega and again know that once the Playstation 2 titles (not to mention all the other cool gadgets yet due out) get rolling they will take a big chunk out of Sega's market? In other words, attack their job security.

This to me is ridiculous. If someome really doesn't like a game, then by all means state why it is so. But if someone is just out to bash a system (games) just because their feeble little minds can't grasp the fact that there will always be loyal Dreamcast gamers. They don't belong in forums like this. This forum has been set up to help potential game buyers, by way of HONEST actual gamers reviews, which games are hot and which are not. And if you are wondering, I don't work for either the providers of this website or for Sony. I am a gamer just like you who likes to have some HONEST inside information before making a game purchase.

Also, I only the used 5 stars in hopes of getting your attention to read this and putting some sort of end to this problem. Sorry if that was missleading.

HAPPY GAMING!!

Nice, but lacking something...

The PS2 games until now have been a bit disappointing. But that's only normal for a new platform. I expect great things of this console in the next years. Summoner is one of the best launch titles. A intricate storyline, a very large 3D-world and lots of NPC's. Still I felt it lacked 'something'. Presentation, graphics and the depth of the characters are mediocre at best. The game also has some bugs and crashes which almost unheard of in console games. Maybe they rushed this game to be able to release it in time for the PS2 launch. On the positive site: this game enables you to save anywhere. All in all a nice game...Try it if you cannot wait for better RPG's to be released later this year.

Cool Game

Although the game isn't Final Fantasy 7, it is incredibly impressive. I think that this is the best American made role-play game ever. It has great original music, interesting plot, thousands of hidden quests, and a unique battle system. It is similar to PC rpgs, and in fact is one, but the console version still impressed many of my die-hard console rpg friends. This game launched with the system and is still the best rpg for PS2. If you haven't played this game and you have a PS2, you're obviously not an rpg fan.

Summoner = Great PS2 RPG

Alright we aren't looking at a MGS2 here, maybe not even a Dark Cloud. But this game is a must own for PS2 people that are getting bored of the same old games. It is a very challenging game, with a [subpar] plot, but awesome gameplay. Definately at least worth a rental from Blockbuster. This is an awesome game and shows some more capabilities of PS2.

I definately recommend this to people like me who beat Bouncer like 20 times before getting a new game, now actually a game that is long enough to enjoy. Very fun, very challenging, very different. Don't count on Final Fantasy gameplay, look for different buttons, different plots, different characters. But I love the complexity of the cities and all the quests you can embark on, reminds me of a Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale like game (which I both beat and loved). So pick it up, try it out. You'll definately enjoy it.

Story or Gameplay?

Summoner is a game that you will either love or hate within the first 6 hours or so. It really depends on what you look for in an RPG. If you need a good battle system and flashy graphics, you won't find that here, but you can expect to find some of the best and biggest level design around. The places you explore are beautiful and interesting but not graphically stunning. You will fight some well designed monsters and bosses, but don't expect to be stunned by their flashy looks. In fact, the entire game looks drab and dark. The music is some ambient filler, with the exception of one or two asian themed songs. What really pushes the game forward is the story. Once again, it depends on what you are into. There are four races and two of them are involved in this game. You will hear complicated histories similar to Roman mythology. If you can't read a novel, you can't play this game. I enjoy novels and mythology, and I enjoyed this game.

Not too good

The graphics on this game were very disapointing and the gameplay is not too great either. Only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because there is a storyline, something many games are lacking now-a-days. I would not have bought this game if I had taken a closer look at the graphics.

Get the strategy guide!

This game was interesting, it kept me amused for a long time but I never really knew what to do until I got the strategy guide. After I got the strategy guide the game was a lot more fun.

Look's like they rushed this one

I'll make this short and sweet. Combat is not much fun, random encounters are verry repititious.there is an annoying little pop when a healing spell is used (sound Glitch),takes too long to load which is done about every 5 mins. But the A.I. works well, the towns are verry big and have many areas to explore if you are a seasond RPGer Make sure to rent this one before you buy itso you are not let down or wait for another RPG prefferably not one that was rushed.
