I like it!!!

This was a game I really enjoyed. In fact I would say I was very addicted to it. In fact I keep it on my computer.

If you played Age of Empires, you should enjoy the bonus god powers and myth units. Now you can rain death on your enemies with metors and lightning storms. You can collapse their defenses with earth quakes. There are also powers to help you such as rain for your farms or mass healing of your troops.

Probably the most fun are the myth units which come from temples.
You will get to use a wide range of units such as minotaurs, cyclops, centaurs, giants, trolls, sphinxes....

The ones I liked best were the Giants. The Frost Giant can freeze units and the Hill Giants can toss them. They are very useful to attack structures as well.

As with AofE, you still build your cities, food, mines, and wood. You upgrade your units while defending your bases and trying to deny resouces from the enemy.

Overall I really don't have major complaints with the game. Well maybe the random map could be improved. It's easy to scout out. The AI might stand a touch up as well. There are noticable patterns in attack.

Finally, the storyline is good and the graphics are good! You can't go wrong with this one.

Wonderful game

For the longest time, Age of Empires and Age of Empires II have been real-time strategy (RTS) mainstays for the Mac platform. Between those two titles and the WarCraft series, Mac gamers' RTS needs were taken care of nicely, thank you very much. But it's been a long time since the last installment of the Age of... series, and all over, Mac gamers were beginning to get restless. You could see it in their hollow, darkened eyes as they looked longingly at PC gamers with their Age of Mythology boxes held smugly under their arms. That time is over. Mac gamers can rejoice, finally, since MacSoft and Westlake Interactive have teamed together to bring Age of Mythology to the Mac. A deep gaming environment; stunning, rich graphics; and solid game play combine for a RTS experience that should keep Mac gamers satisfied for a long time to come.

So, with the arrival of Age of Mythology, do Mac gamers finally have an RTS to match up with the latest PC offerings? The answer is a resounding "yes." Age of Mythology offers players a wonderful blend of the standard RTS play we've associated with the Age of... series with the addition of new tactical and strategic elements brought about by the inclusion of mythical units and the new resource, Favor. Even with these new elements, the overall game play remains well-balanced between players and the new elements broaden the game's appeal far beyond the historically accurate titles that came before it in the series.

Also, with a long, engaging single-player mode and a nearly endless variety of ways to play online or in the game's random map mode, Age of Mythology offers players limitless replayability. Truly, this is a game title for the Mac that should be placed high in the pantheon of RTS games, right there in between Zeus and Apollo.

AOM defines the RTS Genre

AOM feels a lot like the AOE series but in reality, it is drastically different. Some games have depth but they can actually become chores or something that requires so much study that there is little room for fun. AOM has depth but it does not feel like a labor to play.

The genre is called RTS - Real Time Strategy - but was has been lacking in many games is that strategic element. I've played many multiplayer matches that in other games would have been over but in AOM they aren't. Hmmm - that made little sense, I suppose. What I meant is that it isn't just overwhelming force - you have to know your units, your powers etc. - and you need to know your opponents. There have been games I lost that I still enjoyed simply because I admired the strategy my opponent employed.

AOM - Great game - great depth and I look forward to any addons that come along. (For the record - other games I play are Red Alert2: Yuri's Revenge, Madden 2003, Civ 3 and Medieval: Total War.

A Great Game - definate top 5

Age of Mythology lets you play as three distinct races, the Greek, Norse, and Egyptian. Each has its own pros and cons, perfectly balencing them out. The Age advancement feature lets YOU choose the gods to worship. Each different god(or godess) confers unique benifits, divine powers, and mythical beings onn your race. Customizeable difficulty allows your skill level to be nurtured.

Additional features include a epic, captivating campaign, great online multiplayer, and a powerful world editor.

The graphics are great and the soud effects are amazing. The music is top-notch, out of all games, I would say this has the best soundtrack. Gameplay will not leave you wanting more.

The only problem with this game is that one unit, the Greek Colossus, is a overwhelmingly powerful unit in great numbers.

This game is a great strategy game that I enjoy immensly.

The most strategic R.T.S. game I have played

I recently bought this game after getting bored of Warcraft 3 due to its lack of choices and strategy. Though in this game you can't do things in Warcraft 3 like level up your hero, this game has a much greater replay value than warcraft 3 thanks to its amazing amount of strategic choices.

Pro: Great depth and strategy involved
Extremely well balanced
Lots of fun
The best single player campaign ever
Amazing computer A.I. in custom games
Great choice of units
No unit is too powerful (unlike in Warcraft 3)
Great replay value
Amazing God powers

Con: Multiplayer not as good as Battle.net
A bit confusing at first
Graphics not amazing
You can't level your hero

Bottom Line: Great choice for anyone who played Warcraft 3 and is looking for more of both action and strategy, but may be a bit too challenging and confusing for complete beginners to R.T.S. games.

As a huge fan of this type of game, I was excited to play something that dealt with mythological creatures and magical powers. While not as robust a product as Empire Earth, or even Age of Empires, the game is a lot of fun. The real test is how my kids respond to it -- given the choice between Age of Mythology, Empire Earth, and Rise of Nations, they prefer AoM.

This game is a major high!

I think it's a great game, and you can play online with other people around the world. It's good your're able to play online, because after awhile the easy level, gets to be boring. There are different levels to keep your intrest. The campains are really awsom. They never become boreing. The Mythology in it is real. This game is a real high, easily gets addictive. Days of fun.

Loved it! Loved it!! Loved it!!!

I played Age of Empires II (AOE2) and loved that game so much I went out and got Age of Empires I (AOE1). I heard about Age of Mythology (AOM) and knew I had to get it.
I've always been a fan of games that make you think (Zelda, Deus Ex, etc). This game is so much better than AOE1 and AOE2 because the civilizations are all different. Rather than each civilization have 6 or 7 from every other civilization differences each 3 has literally about 100 differences. And the 3 that are similar still have a dozen diifferences. This allows for more variety.

Outstanding game that takes RTS to a new level

When Warcraft III came out, many hailed it as the new way of doing RTS games. After a month or so, reviews and emotions were mixed about the game, almost like it tried TOO hard to do something different.

With AOM, Ensemble has taken an already great product (AOK) and has re-worked the whole thing, adding new mythical elements in an entirely new 3-D engine. The gameplay and feel is very similar to AOK, though it is no longer the same, boring, mundane isometric view you're used to. This game is fully 3-D, and you interact in your environment that way as well.

With three civilizations to pick from, one might think that there is not much choice. But you can chose from 3 different gods within each tribe, each with their own power and bonuses they incur upon the player that uses them. Mythical units in this game are very powerful and can make short work of human units, but this doesn't mean they are invincible. Of course they will need protection and used correctly, you can wreck serious havoc with these units.

The differences between the civilizations was a major bonus in this game. In AOK, the differences were cosmetic at best, the very same at worst (save one unique unit). AOM replaces that. While the tribes do share some things, the gods you choose to follow are what make the differences. Also, the way you gather resources, what resources are needed for various unit/structures (e.g. Egyptians don't use wood to build), and what units do these tasks various from each civilization. Make no bones about it: you will need to gather a lot of food and gold. But the subtle changes in how you do this from each civilization is what makes this game so engaging on that level.

The AI is fantastic, as is the AI that governs your own units. Micromanagement is no longer needed as a #1 priority.

I could go on, but I'm running out of space. This game is an outstanding, solid game that no RTS fan should be without. It will appeal to ANYONE who has even the slightest interest in RTS games. Believe the hype on this game: It is the real deal.
