AOM Vs Warcraft III

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 10 / 19
Date: November 02, 2002
Author: Amazon User

Warcraft 3 is more about unit control. Every unit is important in Warcraft III while AOM is more about building large army and letting them loose.
I'd say for the regular player AOM is easier, you develop, attack and have nice powers as bonus.
While Warcraft III is a much more active game, where you have at the same to develop your hero, your city, all this at the same time. You can beat a large army in WarIII with for exemple only 2 level 6 heroes, while at AOM really mainly number counts.

In WARIII all units are more specific and most of them have special powers. Of course your pop is limited to 90 while you have much larger army in AOM. Some of AOM powers are fun, though...
Graphically both games are nice. But honestly I really feel more stressed, into the game and active during a WARIII game than with AOM... Both games are fun, and I would say that AOM is a better, easier to control initiation to strategy game for the newcomer, while Warcraft III is more for the advanced player....

Buyer beware--game not compatible with many computers

Like other reviewers, I've been disappointed by recent Microsoft Game releases. AOM is the last straw. There are literally hundreds of video adapters that AOM does not support. My home PC is right out of the box and won't run AOM. Think twice before buying this game.

Beautiful next step for Ensemble in the Age Series

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 5 / 7

I have been a fan of the Age series ever since my best friend bought Age of Empires 2 years back. I thought it to be so cool to have a strategy game with historically realistic civilizations and the game play was really addictive. This game breaks from the mold in the realism factor, but the historical context is mostly accurate, while stepping up the game play about 10 notches

Each of the civilizations in this game provide a markedly unique game play style, and the choice of gods throughout the game allows you to mold your civilization to fit your style or combat your opponent's strengths. The Egyptians are the slow-building, defensive civilization with expensive and powerful military units. The Norse are the quick-spreading offensive civ with cheap, weaker units. The Greeks provide a happy medium between the two and are most like the civs from the Age of Empires.

The game play is so very unique, giving you the ability to make an army of Egyptian chariot archers mixed in with a legion of mummies or the legendary flying Phoenix. The graphics are beautifully crafted down to the seaweed swaying in the sea and the killer whales breaching out in the deep. The musical score is very deep, providing a unique musical backdrop when playing with each different civ.

Overall this game is a masterpiece, as shown by its numerous accolades of game of the year. Anyone who loves to think strategically or just have a love of mythology and history should own this amazing game.

Titans expansion for AoM

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 4 / 5

I LOVE Age of Mythology. I think I have a review about it somewhere around here. I think it's a great game, it's a lot of fun - I have played it dozens of times and I adore it. It's everything that Empire Earth, Rise of Nations, etc. are, but adds in mythological units as well.

I recently started playing the Titans expansion and I'm not sure how keen I am on it. I think its a lot of fun, don't get me wrong. I think, honestly, that the Titans are too overpowering. I used a strategy of "Get a Titan as soon as humanly possible" which seemed to work. As soon as I got a Titan, I could destroy whoever I want with absolutely no worries. I haven't played it on the harder levels yet, which I'm sure are more challenging - but even so, I think the Titans themselves are a little overpowering.

That being said.. the Titans are darn cool! Mine would slam his foot down and walls would explode and men would go flying. It's a TON of fun to bring your titan in to a town and just obliterate it! Because gameplay is virtually the same, I'm still having a blast playing it and I do recommend buying the expansion.

Decent

This game is perfect for new players who have never played any of the Age of Empires games. But if your a hardcore or even moderate Age of Empire gamer- you'll probably be let down. While you get cool god powers, you only get three civilizations. Plus- lots of stuff is more expensive. Also, the game's also kind of dry and lacks the personality and spunk that the Age of Empire games had. The best thing about the Mythology edition is it's tutorial. But DO NOT by the game for the sake of buying the latest, coolest edition of the Age of games, especially if you loved the Age of games. Other types of games remotely like the AOE games are probably Empire Earth and Rise of Nations.

Best RTS in Ages!

Ensemble studios has really outdone itself. They took arguably the best Real Time Strategy ever (Age of Empires) and made an even better game. AOE veterans will feel right at home with the interface. They took the basic methods of AOE and totally improved upon them. The Mythological untis are spectacular. I have two words for you: God Powers. This is one of the best, if not the best, Real Time Strategies ever created.

The gameplay is flawless, the graphics are great, the array of units is wonderful, and for those of you who like single player Campaigns, you're in luck. If you are even moderatly intersted in RTS' BUY THIS GAME!!!

P.S. Don't worry, it's not just a AOE with different graphics.

Very good, but not Great

I almost gave this game a 3, but it really is FUN to play, so a 4 is in order.

Just as with the original game, the story line and voice acting are outstanding. The new myth units, special abilities and the titans themselves are really great. And as with the original version, the graphics are astounding.

However, two of the campaigns were really jumpy on my AMD 2800+ with 1.5 gigs of RAM. But more importantly, the whole expansion pack is too short. In "moderate" mode I was able to complete the entire series in a single evening (7 hours). For the price, I expected a bit more.

Don't get me wrong, what was there was a really great game, but we didn't get a chance to re-visit Tartarus (perhaps a campaign to revive Chiron to help fight against the Titans) and we only got a chance to fight a few of the Titans. Unless they plan to release another expansion pack within the next few months, this one leaves you feeling empty.

If you are a TRUE fan of AOM, then you have to get this expansion pack, but take my advice and start off playing it in the hardest mode. That way you won't finish it in a single night. And be sure to update it before you play. I forgot to do that and it locked up my computer.

Very Addictive Game

this game is great. every unit is very cool to see and are very interesting. the graphics are superb and the gameplay is amazing. how do I know this? I was one of the lucky 10,000 gamers that got to test this game in August, months before the release. there are a few new things in this game than there are the last Age of Empires game. first, there is no more stone. they replaced it with favor, which you will use to get you myth units. The myth units are very, very strong against human units but can easily die by the hero units. human units take out hero units and hero units take out myth units which take out human units, and so on. so you can't have a huge army of one type of unit, you need a well-balanced army to win. the maps are very fun and interesting, too.

this game is definitely a must-buy for any strategy fan, Age of Empires fan, or even a casual gamer looking for a great battle and a great game.

The Best Sires of Real Time Strategy Games

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

The Age of Empires, Age of Kings, Age of Mythology series is definitely the best ever sires of real time strategy games. In all versions of the game you are allowed to control both the armies and economies of your nation. You can build buildings, creature soldiers or peasants, even priests. Your peasants you command to do the different menial tasks such as farming, mining, and building castles. While your armies roam the land either defending your peasants, sieging enemy castles, or raiding their peasants. Priest have the power to convert both peasants and soldiers. If you like being king of the world, this is for you. Finally, I just want to differentiate between the games. Age of Empires is the oldest of the games and should run on any computer, but I wouldn't recommend the game without either the Rise of Rome Expansion Pack or just buying the Age of Empires Gold Edition. These two correct many problems with the original Age of Empires. Next game up the latter for medium computers is Age of Kings (that's what I'm still playing.) It can run on just about any computer with sixty four megs of ram and a two hundred megahertz processor. I use it on a five hundred megahertz and a one point four gigahertz. Next game up is the Age of Mythology. This introduces a whole new realm of playing to the sires. This one you civilization chooses different gods to worship and is given power from them. Unfortunately you only get two really spectacular god powers each game and you can only use them once, but then it keeps the game to more strategy and less luck and wildcards. (It is fun to get the wildcards when you have them though!) This game should have a processor of I would say at least a six hundred and a graphics card at least thirty two megabytes; and lastly this is not the game for everybody. I still use Age of Kings/Conquerors not because of my computer, but because I don't like all the crazy stuff in Mythology; I think it distracts from the medieval battle tactics. Really choosing between Mythology and Age of Kings is just a matter of personal opinion. I'd say download both demos and try them both; or if you have the money to blow, buy them both. Either way I think you'll love both of them. Well that's all for me. This is just a general over view don't take my words as gold check out the specs and requirements yourself. I just wanted to help point you in the right direction.
