Great "outside of the box" game design

The Cooking Mama franchise is an excellent example of a 3rd Party publisher (Taito) embracing Nintendo's strategy of expanding the games market to non-gamers and casual gamers.

I purchased the DS version for my wife as a gift, and she thought it was great. So, this mother's day, my daughter and I got our family's Mama a Wii, with Cooking Mama: Cook Off as the game we chose to launch with.

Needless to say, cracking eggs and shaking the frying pan has never been more accurately recreated in a game before! This is a fantastic game to grab and highly recommended.

Cookin Mama is loads of fun for kids of all ages

The little ones fight over it , the big ones are embarassed to admit they love it too (myself included). Had it on the DS and didn't think it could be any more fun with the Wii. But it is . I highly recomend it .

My 6 year old son and I have had a great time competing against each other while creating recipes. It is easy enough for him (and me)! He even wants to cook some of the recipes for real. A very fun family game!

Okay, so, when I first saw Cooking Mama for the DS, I thought it looked kind of stupid. I mean, they are so many other cooking games and it looked like a kind of stupid idea. Well, then I thought about it and I decided, Hey, maybe this will be a fun game. So I went back to the store. But I couldn't find the DS one, so I bought the Wii version. When I first started playing it, it was fun enough. It was addictive. And you can really excel if you make more recipes and cook against other people, but you can only save that progress if you create a save file. I remember that I had every single recipe and I was at the top "level" and then everything was lost. Anyways, it is overall a really fun game. BUT, it is kind of repetitive. If you excel amazingly at all of the recipes, you may find this a bore because you will quickly be done with the game. However, if you aren't exactly great at cooking, you might find the game funner, if not frustrating.

PROS:
-It is really life-like and there are good graphics
-They are so many recipes from all different cultures, that it may make you hungry a little bit
-It may even teach you a bit or two about really cooking
-You can cook against your friend or the Wii itself
-It is very addictive because if you do good with one recipe, you get another one and so on
-The finished product is DELICIOUS looking
-Some of it is quite easy to figure out and to do

CONS:
-Cooking Mama can get very annoying and distracting whilst your cooking
-Cooking Mama does not speak very clearly
-The Wii remote is not good at everything because you have to put it down, to the side and it gets confused
-Your recipe book is not organized very well and it takes a long time to get through it
-You do not have a lot of friends from other countries to cook against
-The Russian friend does not speak in English, which is confusing

I think that you should buy it, just try to find it a cheap price in the case that you do not like, but I thnk you will.

This cooking mama loves Cooking Mama!

I really love this game! Like the others said, the controls sometimes make you want to throw the remote, but over all fun! (I have found that slower stiring seems to pick up better when stewing.) I'm addicted! I'd never played the DS version, so I didn't know what to expect. Mama is hard to understand, but you don't have to understand her to play the game. I'd recomend it to anyone who enjoys silly-fun games!

This game takes something that gamers never think about being fun and makes it just that. I hate cooking but this game is addictive and there is no mess or dishes to do witch is a real bonus. This game is a strong message from nintendo that they are willing to go anywhere and do anything to show off there unique system. Cooking Mama is great because of concept and playability anyone can do it,but it takes skill to do it well. who would have ever thought secrets in a game would be a recipe. the only thing that keeps this from being perfect is the repetitive phrases that get old quickly. A must have for the wii.

boring one sided game

like wario, this is a boring one sided game. basically, it's all about using the wii remote. Alot of cutting, splitting, and moving around but there's no real plot to it. Head to head combat is very boring too. No satisfication what so ever. Unless you want this game for waving around the remote Stay Away from Cookin Mama and Wario smooth moves.

A silly, but fun game for the Wii

Cooking Mama: Cook Off is a silly game, but that's what makes it so much fun. You get to chop, dice, break eggs, stir stew and a whole bunch of other actions using the Wii remote. Another great feature is all of the international dishes you can prepare in the game. I definitely get hungry while playing!

Really fun game!

My kids favorite DS game is Cooking Mama, so we bought this one the first time we saw it. This game is pretty much the same, using the Wii remote instead of the stylus, with some new options and lots more recipes. The kids have played it everyday and they love it...BUT.... as others have mentioned, the controls are not sensitive enough and some of the motions (especially stirring!)don't work like you want them too. It can be very frustrating.

Still one of the favorite Wii games in the house!
