Best Baseball Game EVER!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

Dont listen to everyone saying that this game is too hard, if you dont like the batting cursor, go to options and change to eays batting dopeheads! The graphics and gameplay are far superior to Triple Play and World Series. The franchise mode is really great but can only play 162 game seasons. You should get this, dont listen to everyone giving this a 1-2/5 stars.

I am not really sure what the complaining is all about......

I bought this game a day or two after it was released. It was a great buy for the Xbox. I see alot of people complaining about the game, I have a few myself, but NOTHING that can not be over looked.

1. Booth work is ok, not great. Replays on every play ( that you can not turn off ) tend to get boring and slow the pace of the game down alot. ( but you can button press out of the replay ) One game on normal speed will last about a hour.

2. Sound, once again ok, cracked bats is a great add effect.

3. Look of the game, ok this is where it is not great, player faces, while some are very good, others a dull and boring. At times players change colors ( from white to black things of the sort ) while they are running around the bases or fielding the ball.

4. Trades/Season play, "20 years" of game play that is pretty solid, the A.I. will still offer up poor trades or you can do some poor ones yourself. No trading of Farm team players untill they are in the "bigs" Players are "payed" in points, and you can not resign them before then end of the contract, or redo the deal.

Nothing really bad about the game, and nothing that can not be over looked. I am a sim fan, and this is close. It can still use some work, but it is a solid buy for the Xbox.

Good Baseball Game

This is by far the best baseball game I've ever played. I don't know how anyone can not like this game. It is kind of hard to get used to at first, but after you figure some things out this game is a blast. All the complaints about it being hard to hit. Simply pause the game and go to game options and turn the hitting on easy mode so you don't have guess the pitches. The graphics are pretty well done. I haven't found too much wrong with this game. The only complaint I have is that the fielder's sometimes cover too much ground and they make too many fancy catches that aren't really needed. The franchise mode is really pretty cool. You are in control of your team you just have to be smart about what you do! You can't try and sign tons of all-stars cause you'll run out of cap room after 1 or 2 players and then you can't really make your team any better cause you'll have too many weak spots. The better season you have the more cap room you have. I've read to many complaint's about this game. It can't be perfect and probably could be a little better, but if you're looking for a baseball game for your xbox this is definitely the game to get. Oh and one more thing the guy that said Eric Hiljus isn't on the game...he is. Check you farm club!!! This game can keep you entertained for hours!

Play Ball!!!

Now THIS is the game TP 2002 should have been--a baseball in which you can pick your favorite teams and go, or if you don't, try several in the xhibtion mode and find the ones you like the most. Having to deliver a strike or pay the price with the CPU sending your pitch deep is a game in itself. Fielding is not hard at all, and the game has a solid, solid feel to it overall. The best part is making your players and adding them to your team--can a virtual copy of yourself upseat Roger Clemens for the Yankees top ace slot? Well done Acclaim, well done :-)

Awesome baseball game! What TP 2002 should have been!

What a difference! Having played Triple Play 2002 as my first basball video game and what a dissappointment it was, boy is this game awesome. Whereas before I wasn't biased by previous versions, now I am by the lesser game TP2002. ASB 2003 is not without its glitches, as it does have many, but you can easily overlook them as the game has so many rewards to give you.

Lets start with the graphics. In comparison to TP, they are awesome. In comparison to other games on the box they are pretty good. The players are well proportioned even if not individually modelled perfectly like the real player, and you can identify the player clearly in his face. The stadiums look good, although there are a few glitches, blurs, and pixels here and there. The crowds like in most sports games looks funny, strange, and overall not too great. The field texture looks flat although not as bad as TP, and could use stadium field shadows (which TP has). Overall, the graphics look quite realistic and do not distract from the game (unlike TP which has its own bad review).

The sound overall is pretty good. I love the commentary and overall TV feel. One problem though is the problem of Sudden Silence. Too many times during a game you'll have a replay without commentary or almost anything else...just silence. The crowd should be stronger volumed and keyed to the plays which at times it is but not to the extent of other sports games (NBA Inside Drive 2002 for example). Unforgivable is the fact of not being able to hear the umpire call strikes or base umps call safe or out. Sure it supposedly gives it a "TV" feel, but I hear it when I watch a game on TV and expect it when playing it on the X-box.

The gameplay is really good. Batting is tough, like in real life, but not impossible. It took about 20 minutes in batting practice, and a Home Run Derby, but I won my fourth game 8 to 1 with 1 home run. I've been batting without a hitch ever since. You don't have to aim perfectly, just watch the ball like in a real game. I love the batting and pitching realistic feel. (TP was really disappointing in this area, 10 home runs in a single game). The fielding has a lot of glitches which need work, but overall it doesn't detract too much from the game (Did I mention that players go through each other? Collision detection anyone? Although not in a disppointing manner.). Oh and the fouling out thing is major. Boy was that a surprise. Third foul, player is gone. What?! Overall the gameplay is great and promises a lot of hours of really enjoyable baseball fun.

The game also has some nice details, such as the crowd throwing back the ball when you hit a home run and you're not the home team. The mascot dances on the dugout. The players in the dugout react to gameplay. Etcetera.

In conclusion, feel free to buy this one. You'll really enjoy it. Make sure to get your batting down first and the rest will be more enjoyable. Enjoy.

The frontrunner........

This game appears to be the front runner for baseball games for the Xbox console. I've been a big fan of the EA Sports Triple Play series, but their hayday may be running out.........

THE best representation of baseball on ANY system to date!

Acclaim has outdone themselves this time. All Star Baseball 2003 is what it's all about.

The gameplay is freakin' awesome, and whoever thought of incorporating a Franchise Mode deserves a Nobel Prize. It does take some time to really "learn" the game though. The sound could also be a little better as well. Besides that, everything else is killer. I'm a huge Mariners fan and in the game, all of the players are modeled to the best detail. The only thing that could have been better was the batting stances, but it is easy to look past all the shortcomings and play the best baseball game for the Xbox.

I really recommend this game for die-hard baseball fans and people who believe in the concept of long forgotten "small ball" type of play. Homeruns are a thing of rarity in ASB2003, but when you smack one out, the game becomes that much sweeter. ... In ASB2003, a long ball will make you do cartwheels and backflips because they are SO hard to hit. For those who do have the game, play a ton of Exhibition games before you start a new season. Like the real guys, practice makes perfect and trust me, first time players of ASB2003 will need all the practice they can get. Unless you're a power happy type of person, All-Star Baseball isn't for you.

But for those who want the true experience of the Major Leagues, ASB2003 is what it's all about (that is until World Series Baseball comes out).

Buy World Series 2003 Not This

While certainly not as horrible as Triple Play Baseball, this game has two negatives which in my mind are so vital to a good baseball game that they destroy any chances this has of being one.

1. Starting pitchers tire after 4 or 5 innings. Not even Curt Schilling or Randy Johnson stand a chance of getting a CG.

2. Each game takes 1hr 15min to 2 hrs to complete.

I returned this game in exchange for World Series 2003 and am much happier for that decision.

Lots of Glitches

Overall this was a pretty good game. But I had a lot of problems with it. First of all the players are ranked by a grade overall. The game doesn't even tell you how good the player is power wise, it is not specific. Also, many players are not in the game. For instance A's pitchers Jim Mecir and Eric Hiljus are not on the team. They were both important players on the team last year. Also the A's starting second baseman last year, Frank Menechino, is not in the game. Another problem with the game is the AI pitcher hardly ever throws balls. I had a big problem with this because I like to work deep into the count. Another gameplay problem is that replays come on after every play and sometimes disturb the play. For instance I overthrew the ball to the 1st basemen. The computer could have run to second but the replay came on and the play was over. This game has quite a few modes but many of them I had problems with. I didn't find the home run derby mode fun. It is way too hard to hit a home run. The expansion mode is only for a season and you can't create a name and city you have to choose form what the game has. On the bright side, the baseball quiz mode was very well done. This is a solid game but I suggest you wait for other games due to the many glitches.

Great Game

This game is really good. In most baseball games you can go through a season with out losing a game but this game you can lose a game or to and also you can add or drop people in your Farm Team which is a great feature to the game and people should buy it.
