Quite Addicting

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 5 / 5

Even though this is a very old game, it is quite addicting to play. The animations are fun to watch and the additional territories are much needed improvements to classic risk to open up the map more (Risk 2210 has similar options). Same-time risk allows all attacks to happen at once and is a unique concept that is quite fun as it balances out the game more by not giving the starting player a huge advantage. Now my gripes are that network games require 3 players and you cannot add computer players. This should have been something easily implemented that is missing. Also, I hear online play support no longer exists which isn't a big deal as I don't play online. The tournament mode is fun as well with 16 increasingly difficult levels to complete and what I enjoy the most about the game. Some people have mentioned that it is annoying that if you lose at any time in the tournament, you have to start over from the very beginning. This is true, although there is a trick which is to backup the tourn.cfg file every time you beat a level. If you lose, just restore your backup and you're good to go from the beginning of the mission you were at. I cannot tell you how much that improved the experience of the game after I figured that out after playing the first 5 levels over again 3-4 times as I was stuck on level 6. So, if you are playing it for single player, it is quite fun granted that you backup your tournament files. Hot-seat is fun for multiple players on the same computer only because you can add computer players in addition to having human players. It just doesn't make sense why they didn't implement the same for network games so you don't need to crowd everyone around one monitor.

Definitely a challenge

Risk 2 is definitely worth the bargain price. The many different gameplay options allow for different challenges for one or more players. Some old high school buddies and I decided we would try getting together once a month to keep in touch, play a game, and chat. This game allows for intense gameplay while quality time with family or friends. The tournament is extremely challenging because it forces you to play the game in the different modes which does not allow you to develop a consistent strategy. This is a plus because games that allow you to form and follow a set strategy get boring and monotanous after a short time. The "Same Time" strategy takes a little while to get used to, but definitely is an addition that benefits the game. It allows for multiple attacks, both from two or more of your countries, but also from several of your countries and countries of other players. If you and a fellow player attack the computer at the same location, for instance, once the computer has been defeated, you and your buddy "go at it". You also have to watch out for "surge attacks" where an opponent can attack you one place and then immediately go into the next country while you're not even aware of it. If you're into a challenge or want a game which allows for some competition and quality time with family and friends, get Risk 2.

Very Disapointed

I was expecting something similar to RiskI and was totally disapointed, there are no map options as in the first installment. Though the Battle graphics are good, it slows down the game so much if you kept them on it would take forever to go through one round. I felt cheated out of a really good game. The lack of choice in maps I felt downgraded the game. I enjoyed playing the first, in large part because the map options changed the way the game was played. in closing save your money.

Excellent game to pass the time...

This is a very good, although somewhat dated, strategy game. Since it is a little older, the AI (artificial intelligence, i.e., the computer) is very good but probably not up to par with more modern strategy games. However, because I played this game when I was a kid (so many times I lost track) I still enjoy it. In addition, the game music (Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture) is quite appropriate! The game has the Classic version of Risk and a Simultaneous version where all players attack at the same time; I haven't tried this version yet. My computer is running Microsoft XP with Service Pack 2 and the game runs fine with no glitches. If you are a die-hard Risk fan I believe you will enjoy the game for quite a while.

Worth trying Same-time Risk

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 4 / 4

Risk 2 offers a tournament play with increasing difficult predefined maps and objectives, classic and same-time risk with about a dozen different computer opponents.

The innovation in this game is the same-time. This is an extremely fun option, and greatly speeds the gameplay with friends, since everyone does their turn at the same time, and then sit back and watch the action.

The only technical problem with this game is it requires a minimum of three players, and computer opponents are not offered for networked games. Computer opponents are available for "hot-seat" games where players share one computer. Otherwise a solid title.

Diffinitly worth the money

Risk 2 is a very good game. It is just like the board game with some very good addons. First there is same time risk. Here you don't wait turn but you all get reinforcements at the same time and attack at the same time. You use diffrent type of dice here to. The more men you have the better dice so it eliminates the problem of have 2 guys to out 20. As there are tourdoments wicth in compairson to a command and conquer is like a compain. Also in difference to the board game you can now chose your teritories diffren. First you can have the computer do it randomly. Second you can choose in a turn based way. And third you can have an election which is like an auction. This game is well worth you money and is fun for everyone. Higly recommend.
