A Fan's Dream!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 7

For a Spider-Man game, this is as close to what I'd envisioned as I think a modern-day programmer can create without access to a Cray computer. It wasn't "perfect" though.

First of all, sound and graphics - fantastic. Great soundtrack that doesn't constantly repeat/drone on and highly detailed graphics and character movements. If you've seen the cartoon or the comic book, you'll be happy with the acrobatics that Spider-Man shows in this game.

Playability. When you get down to it, this is an arcade-style game with a few add-ins. Most of the game is combat or web-swinging. The combat is done with combos (ala Tekken, etc) which you earn as you progress in the game (the theory being that Peter Parker is learning to use his abilities as time goes on). The web-swinging is pretty great and the movement possibilities with the standard and "zip" web lines are near endless. This is in no sense a role-playing game and the game itself is very linear - you don't make any real choices in the game except to continue with the plotline. So if you are terrible at those combat games at the arcade, you may fall short in the combat scenes in this one...so get used to pressing those punch, kick, jump, and web buttons.

Game plusses.
- If you've ever dreamed of swinging along with Spidey, this is your game - fantasy fulfillment at its best.
- The price is also right...
- Movement is realistic and the combat combos are precious.
- If you've seen the movie, with only a few exceptions, the actors reprise their speaking-roles as the characters in the game.
- The cut-scenes are utterly FANTASTIC (one of the things I look for in games) - very high quality and near-cinematic. And the cut-scene portrayal of spider-sense is great - a good interpretation.
- An added bonus is that they incorporated the infamous Spider-Man heckling techniques against the bad guys into the game. It's great stuff.

Game minuses.
- The game has two general modes - web-swinging and in-building. When you're web-swinging you are swinging through buildings and can't get close to the ground, so everything happens on the rooftops. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't zip down and hang from a streetlamp, for instance. When you're in in-building mode, you're in that building and won't suddenly transition (in the same level) to swinging around after something/somebody.
- Game control is also a problem. I found that just using a keyboard was a little arduous with all the button combinations. Right now I'm using keyboard/Sidewinder Strategic Commander and that generally does the trick and the game supports the more popular game controllers.
- Saves only happen at the end of a scene, so if you get yourself killed you're out of luck and have to do the whole thing over which can be a bit arduous if you've done it for the tenth plus time.
- I was a little disappointed that there isn't more "crime fighting" in the game. Yes, you take on the general bad guys and the more famous Spider-Man nemesi, but every now and again while I'm swinging I'd like to stop a mugging or a gang attack or something rather than going along with the plotline. A "crime fighting mode" would have been a neat addition to the game - just swinging around and stopping general crime like Spidey himself.

Overall, I'd recommend this game to any Spider-Man fan or superhero fanatic. Activision and Gray Matter did an excellent job on this one!

A fun and entertaining webfeast for Spidey fans of all ages!

"Spider-Man: The movie" is so much fun! The animation and 3D images are awesome! Forget other Spidey games...this one tops the charts! There's more combat moves. More acrobatics! More web-slinging! And especially, more of that delicious, state-of-the-art 3D, baby! The game's graphics are so rich, it actually looks and sounds like our wonderful New York City! Even Spidey and The Green Goblin are voiced by no other then...*drum beats*...Tobey Maguire and Wiillem Dafoe! Darn smart, huh? Oh! And did I mention that you can use other characters besides Spidey himself? You can! Isn't that pure genius? You can use characters like Shocker, Captain Stacey, Mary Jane, the Green Goblin and much more. How, do you ask? Just go to the specials menu, select "Cheats", then type in - What? You think I'm going to tell you everything? Stop being so lazy and search for it on the net, for crying out loud! The game rocks. It has everything a good game should have: Great graphics, great sound, great story, great soundtrack, great entertainment, I mean - this is neat stuff! Thumbs up for the geniuses at Activision!

This is one of the best games I have ever played. The levels are great and the final levels are the best when you get to take on the Green Goblin. Some levels are really hard to beat but there is a level skip cheat code which works well. I got it over a month ago and I still play with enjoyment. YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

great graphics, lots of wit

this game is a lot of fun. i was worried my new Dell labtop couldn't handle the graphics demands but it's been fantastic so far. Game is fun, builds on the old game but with great simulated scenes (presumably from the movie) with Tobey Maguire. it's also very funny, correcting you when you do something you should have learned in tutorial. not sure what all the levels are like since just got it

Awesome,Thrilling,Everything you can Imangine...

First of all; get it. It's everything you could dream of for a superhero game. My favorite thing about the game is all the training sessions because they are very fun. I think the graphics are awesome, plus the sound rocks. But the camera might need a little work. So, go to the nearest store and get it!!!!!I love it!!!

I dont know what you are talking about... It does nots show blood or anything else. Too be rated T its gotta have blood or somthing. E means that it is not bloody/gory or have adult content. I mean come on other E games have contact and such. This is a great game I would recommend this to any Spidey fan of any age!

An in-depth explaination on the violence for parents

This game is VERY cool, especially for Spidey fans. I'll be to-the-point and list the ups and downs.
Pros:
*Wide range of combos, each with its own special effect.
*Web yank, web twirl, impact web and web dome are all available.
*Tons of replay value.
*Lots of great skins and cheats.
*"Secret Store" feature enables you to unlock specials as you progress in the game (my personal favorite is playing as Harry Osborn as he uses the Goblin Gear to fight crime. The control scheme actually changes!)
*Awesome graphics!
*Depending on the setting you enable, the game can be easy, extremely challenging or right in the middle.
Cons:
*Graphics on the first level can be choppy.
*Bosses are easy, even on a hard gameplay level.
*Taunts throughout the game are ANNOYING (especially Harry Osborn's). Thugs, with their corny voices, will yell corny things like "Don't mess with the best!" or "Dibs on the spider!"
Your character will yell things like "Back off, ugly!" or "You're crazier than a soup sandwich!" Oh well, at least they don't swear.
*ESRB should have rated this game "T" (teen). I know they wrote "violence" under the "E" (everyone) sign, but still it is harsh enough to be rated higher. I'll talk about that here.
There is hitting and physical contact among humans. Basically you fight thugs, although sometimes the occaisional robot. Sure, stopping crime is a good cause, but I don't think that people need to see these things. If you want to see violence, go watch the news. When you "take out" a thug, they will groan in a breathless sort of way and fall to the ground, promptly vanishing. At least that isn't as bad as the body remaining on the ground.
I suppose it's meant to be a bit cartoonish, because when you hit something a bright yellow light flashes. Maybe it's just there to let you know you've made contact with something (or someONE).
There were two ways I tried to blot the problem away were by entering cheat codes. I entered the unlimited webbing cheat (ORGANICWEBBING) and all I used were webbing attacks. After doing this for quite a while, I found it made the game very boring. Running around and shooting blobs of webbing in every direction is tedious. Next, I tried entering a cheat that made all my enemy's heads and feat big (JOELSPEANUTS). It added much comic relief, and ever since then I've kept it on. But still it was violent. Then I tried ONLY playing levels involving fights with robots (which there were very few of). BORING! Then, I realized that I had spent (this amount) and I might as well play the game and have fun. So that's what I've been doing. If I'd have known that the violence was that harsh, I wouldn't have bought the game. Basically, I'm writing this section so that you don't do the same thing. It's your decision!
Overall, it's a very fun game, but the rating is misleading. Watch your step!

A must have for Spiderman fans

I don't know why are most of the reviewers complainig, the graphics are incredible and the controls take a little time to adjust to it but after that they're actually very good. To the people complainig because it locks up or because it doesn't play fast enough, well I don't know what's wrong with your systems. I have an old system: Pentium 2 at 266 MHz overclocked to 300 MHz, 160 Mb RAM and a Geforce2 MX 400 w/64 Mb SDRAM and the game runs pretty nice, not slow at all. And it never locks up.

Anyway, I highly recommend this game specially if you are a Spiderman fan.

with great power comes great responabllity

had it not been for the camera views, the game would have been the best I've ever played.it is really based on the movie with only one fault.you must look around for web-cartridges where as in the movie the web is organic.despite that, the game makes you recall the film with the best-detailed videos, dialogues and voices used.finally,i am really looking forward to its sequel...
