Excellent game!

This game is one of the best games for n64. When i bought it i thought i was buying an RPG...but it turned out to be even better! The gameplay is fast and furious. And if killing everything in your path isn't good enough, there are also a lot of RPG elemnts in there. There are problems to solve, special items to collect, and you can buy stuff to upgrade your character. This game is a must! If you liked Zelda, but want a four player game, then look into this game...graphics arent EXCELLENT, but what graphics are? The point I'm trying to get across is, buy this game! A game for thinkers, and a game for those people that just like blowing up things...or both, you can play four player...Also, excellent replay value...after a month or so it starts to get repetitive, but i still cant pry myself away from the screen! Invite over some friends and then it becomes really fun...i dont see how it is, in anyway possible, that this game can get a bad review from Gamespot (the review up top) So stop reading and go BUY!

An excellent multiplayer battle game for N64

Gauntlet was the original "get four people and feed in a ton of quarters" video game when it came out over a decade ago, and the arcade version of Gauntlet: Legends took this a step further with more complex weapons and terrain, and characters that remind me of my old favorite, Golden Axe. So I was overjoyed when the N64 version of Legends came out, and it's just as playable as the arcade version that's captured far more than $40 of my tokens in the stand-up version. The graphics aren't perfect, but they are a good rendering of levels, and it play is quick and easy to figure out. The characters are easy to control at first, although you might find yourself with instructions in your lap for a while to figure out how to move between weapons and magic items. The real treat is when you get two or more people together to duke it out and move through levels. It's great to have a game that doesn't use split screens or some other distraction to enable friends to play together. The music and voices are cool, and there's enough gameplay to keep you busy for a while. This game doesn't try to push the envelope or take things too far, but it's a great way to get together with people and fight some monsters for a few hours, which is exactly why I like it so much.

Forget the magazines review, this game is awesome.

So your thinking of buying Gauntlet, but you want to make sure that you will get your moneys worth so you go look up some reviews by such well known and trusted sites as videogames.com, gamespot, and ign64.com, and they all seem to be saying the game, well just isnt up to par. But for some reason you still are interested in the game and want some reason to go buy it. Well here it is along with all the other player reviews ive read. i got the game a week ago, and so far i'm halfway done i can't wait to continue playing. the game is great, with the 4 different characters to chose from along with the 5 secret ones. also i think the best thing about the game is destroying hudreds of monsters at a time and watching your experience level go up, as you get a few helpful partners when you reach 15,25,50,75,and 99. When playing with a friend no matter the skill the game gets even better. so far i've only played it with 2 players so i don''t know how it like to play with 3 and 4 players, but i'm guessing it's great. so stop listening to professionals and start listening the actually gamers.

For us 80's kids, this game is great and just as addictive!

For those of us who grew up with the redundant action video games such as space invaders, missile command, etc., when Gauntlet came out for the arcade we were all instanly hooked. It was non-stop action, but with the cool theme of medieval adventurers going through dungeons banishing evil and collecting treasure. It was truly addicting.

When Nintendo released Gauntlet Legends, I was skeptical because often times remakes of famous games or games that have the same name as an old game (i.e. new Donkey Kong vs. old Donkey Kong) just aren't as fun as the original. So I waited, for months, until I played it with my Brother-in-Law.

Once I played it I was immediately hooked in much the same way I was a kid.

The game uses 3d views much like John Madden Football. And the graphics are quite good. What makes the game interesting is the variety of special weapons and magical items you collect along the way. Additionally, because Nintendo's joysticks have more buttons, there are a lot of special moves you can do that were impossible with the old arcade version.

Some reviews posted here state that this game is "sooooo boring" because you do the same thing every level. That is true, you are doing the same thing every level (i.e., looking for the rune stone, finding the oblesik and of course slaying the evil and collecting the treasure), but for those of us who grew up with non-stop action games, that is what we desire. Many of today's video games have great graphics and story lines, but often require a lot of mind-power and sometimes are down-right impossible without a clue book. I would agree that the plot of Gauntlet is no Zelda, and the game is not super challenging (the expert mode is), but sometimes the mindless "hack-n-slash" games are just what I need after a long day at work when I don't have the mental energy to try another level of Zelda or Golden Eye.

But I think that the best part about Gauntlet is the fact that three of your friends can all play at once. This makes for a great party for the "guys" and the interaction is almost more fun than the game itself. ("Come on Bob, you let an ankle-biter through and it took 20 points from my wizard, I thought your Archer was tougher than that" or "You think your so tough Mr. Wizard, the rest of us will stand here and you go up the path and take-out the Orc generator!")

Even my wife, who hates video games likes playing this game because it is not me trying to beat her in a game (as in Mortal Combat or sports games), instead it us working together. So when she can't do the special move or use her potions effectively, it is no big deal because I will do it instead and we can advance on the next screen. Even small kids can play this game with the parents or older children and still enjoy themselves, again, because the other players are not trying to beat the younger, inexperience, Nintendo player.

Hi, I recently played this game and I think it is one of the better Nintendo 64 games. It allows all four players to play at the same time on the same team. Unlike other four player games, instead of trying to plot against each other you work togeather. If you get this game, don't forget to pick up an expansion pack and a memory card if you get this game!

I think that Gauntlet Legends is one of the best games i have ever played. It kicks butt! Take my word it's awsome. You get to fight through awsome worlds and try to fend off hordes of monsters.I was in love with this game even before i played the game when i read the manual i knew it was gonna be awsome and i sure was not disappointed one little bit.But if u got a bit of a short temper than be sure to play with other people cause when u get in the higher levels it's virtualiy impossible to get by the enemys alive. The music isn't that great but that doesn't really matter. And i think it's better with all the special items!Don't listen to the stupid critics listen to the kids who actually play the game! Oh and if u don't really like the characters then try to get one of the 5 secret characters! And the 3D is awsome. ENJOYYYYYYY!

if you like arcade games with an RPG twist, you'll love this game. the time required to beat the game is a lot, but not too much; some 20-30 hours. it can be more or less depending on the player, probably more. anyway, this game has non-stop action. most of the time you are bashing some poor goblin's brains in. however, to my surprise and delight, i discovered there are some puzzles and switches to unlock, making the game challanging and more RPG like instead of just a mind-numbing arcade game. when you reach certain points in the game, you get weapon/attack bonuses, adding to the interest. the best part of it all is that it's not addicting but fun at the same time. if you liked this review, i have another review written for the on-line rpg game EVERQUEST. check it out. i would buy this game cause the graphics are great and it's fun.
