Great game!

After enjoying every second of the original Driver game, I knew I would like this one. Driver remained my favorite PlayStation game until Driver 2 was released. This game has great graphics for a PS game, and gameplay is the best. Major improvements over the original are much more variety of cars, you can now get out of your car and take something else when yours is in too bad of shape (even something like a school bus or an armored car!), new cities with on/off ramps and curved roads, and some very fun 2-player modes like capture the flag. There are all kinds of missions, like following criminals without getting close enough to expose yourself or far enough away to lose him, and just getting somewhere in time to save your buddy. The cities are also very realistic, and there is real traffic. Even the cops strategise a lot to try to run you off the road. .... Although this is a great game, parents should be concerned about the violence in some of the between-play cutscenes.

Driver2 is like graduating from "Driver".

First off, the game does slow down every once and a while; but I only noticed that after I had been playing it for about 6 hours. I guess my console was tired. Everything from "Driver" is here in Driver2. Plus, when your car gets too damaged, you can hop out and "commandeer" another, fresh, vehicle from a "gracious" citizen of Havana. With the game containing 2 disks there are more cinematic scenes and a lot more game to play through. I for one love the game, and the 2 player capability should make it a title you will take out over and over again. (I haven't had the chance to bash up someone else, but the L.A. police are fine for now).

Game is great

I have not played the original Driver, but I can say, that Driver 2 was a great game. Although some of the undercover missions were a bit challenging, its no reason to complain. I hear people complaining all the time that games were too easy, now there is a good game that is actually challenging and people are complaining about that too. I would also like to point out that undercover is not nearly the only thing you can do with this game. The 2 player mode had some great games to play with a friend, and the "Take a Ride" mode is very entertaining. You can just drive around, destroying cars and doing as much felony as you can, then see how long you can last with the somewhat ruthless cops. I've Had hours of fun just seeing how long I can survive. I'd also say that i found the graphics were fine. It wasn't choppy at all, and the cut scenes were great. Although it did take a little time to load, it is well worth it. I would recomend Driver 2 to anyone who likes to have fun. You don't have to be a driving game fan to love this one!

My two cents on Driver .02

I own the original version and could'nt wait for Driver 2 to come out. There is a few changes such as roads that are curved, freeway on/off ramps, and the ability to hop into other vehicles whenever you choose. The down side of all this is all the other cars are basically the same as yours but just a different color. (unless you choose to hop in a slowwwwww truck or bus). The on/off ramps and overpasses are barricaded in so jumping off of them is out of the question. Also...along with other reviewers, I noticed that playing this game on PS1, the game stutters or slows down when the screen gets to crowded which is quite often And in my opinion more than in the original Driver. Also when you choose "play or try again" in the driving games mode, it again takes even longer to load than the original. Get used to seeing the word "LOADING" when playing this game. Maybe it plays better on PS2? In my opinion...If you dont own the first Driver, save your money and buy the first one.... If you think you just got to have both, dont expect too much more from Driver 2, Basically it's just different cities with different missions and not much more. .... HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Not Perfect, but still good game...

Driver 2 overall is a pretty good game. With the new added option of stealing cars it ands to original Driver experience. But it's also is worse in other ways. For instance, this game can have some serious slowdown. This affects the game experience when ur right in the middle of a heated chase. The whole city seems to be after u in this game! Cars pop out right in the most incovenient times and move right in ur way some times resulting in some excess damage from pursuing cops and from the collision itself. When u first start the game a lot of the first few levels of the game are chasing and following witnesses stuff. In one level in Chicago u have to follow a car but make sure the driver doesnt see u. How is it possible that he can see u though when hes all the way around the corner?! This might frustrate u but stick with the game it gets better. Now with the pros. The new curved roads ( u might not have noticed it but there were none in the first Driver) makes the game more realistic. U can also hijack other cars which is really cool. It'll reset ur damage and bring ur felony all the way down. If u dont have patience though pass up on Driver 2 and go for Driver.

The best game to hit the stores.

I'm not a big fan of driving games, but you can't go wrong with Driver 2. The great storyline and movie clips gives you a strong purpose to drive like a madman. The thing I enjoyed most about the game is its attention to geographical detail. They have 4 cities for their stories and one being Chicago. Living in Chicago, I enjoyed driving like a nut around Wrigleyville and downtown while having the cops chase after me. Very reminscent of the Blues Brothers!

Anyway, the feel of the game is great. Use an analog controller and you'll see that control of the car is very good. Also, the ability to get out of your car and walk around is another great feature. You can stop other cars/buses/vans, and drive them to complete your mission! Also you can walk into various buildings as well. You really have the feeling that anything goes, and it does.

This is a great game whether you love driving games or not. Pick it up now!

Disappointing

Driver 1 is one of my all time favorite games so of course I went out and bought Driver 2 as soon as it came out. When I played it I couldn't believe that this was made by the same company that made the first outstanding game. The graphics are hardly impressive, the control is loose, the speed is sluggish and it's just not a user friendly game. At some points you end up hating the game because you have to restart so much each time you fail a mission. They made this game extremely hard. My friend is a gaming fanatic. He plays games all day everyday. He's an expert at them. But even he couldn't get past the first disc of this game. We've both given up. Now, if I'm going to play Driver 2 it's just for the free drives around the cities. I'm looking forward to a Driver 3 on Playstation 2 but I hope Infogrames will fix all the problems this sequel had.

What is there to say. It rules. This game is much better than the first one. There are times it slows down and even freezes once in a while. But that's alright. You'll get use to it. D2 has overpasses and on ramps that you can go onto. It has curved roads which are a blast. And you can highjack other vehicles too. Anything from another car to a bus to even an armored vehicle(bank trucks) IF you see a police car on the side of the road you might be able to get it too. Fire trucks are a rare thing but you can get those too. The movies in it are better as well. When you start you can either go to Chicago or Havana in Cuba. In cuba, The cars are an older moldel. Like 40s-50s. You can select what car you wanna statr out in at either city. If you are trying to out run a cop in Chicago,Hint: Cops and street lights are magnetic, Weave in and out of street lights. In chicago there are also draw bridges that do go up and down and they make perfect ramps. But be careful, if you hit them when there to high up you'll just go up em' a wee bit then slide back down. D2 is a 2 disc game by the way. Take my word for this. if you have driver you will love D2. It is well worth the [money]. Another thing. If you have Driver 1, go back and play it once in a while, It may bring back some memories of your old skidin' grounds. But rent it first just to be safe. In case you don't like. But I'm sure you will.

To put it nicely- rubbish

Driver (the first 1) was one of the best games of 1999 so it was understandable that a follow up would be made. It's just such a shame that Driver 2 wasn't nearly as good as the first one or for that matter any, any other game for the PSone in 2000.

For a start the graphics are horrendous! They compare to the likes of the first Playstation games made- it just doesn't look real at all!
Secondly, the missions are way too hard! Unless you're a games expert you'll find even the easiest mission here hard and boring.
Thirdly, the gameplay isn't very smooth and when there's more things around you (e.g. cars and policemen), your car moves slower.
Lastly, the game is unrealistic in a bad way. You can't run people over and the Police are just stupid! Another incredibly false thing that takes place is you can often go for miles on a main road and not come near another car!

The only thing I'd say is enjoyable about Driver 2 is just "Taking A Ride" around Chicago and seeing how fast you can ram into another car. If you're looking for a PSone 'car' game then buy the original Driver. If you're looking for any car game then definitely get 'Vice City' instead.
