Great Fun for fans of InuYasha

What this game is not: The next Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.

What this game is: A fun anime-themed fighting game.

If you are looking for a game that is just plain fun to play, and you are an InuYasha fan, this game is for you. Complete with original Japanese voice work (subtitled of course) it's just a blast to play. It is very much "old school" in style, and if you've ever played anything like Gundam Wing Endless Duel or the *original* Street Fighter II, this is very much along the same idea. Yep, this game is vintage sprite-based action!

You can either play 1 on 1, 2 on 2 (think tag team), against a friend or the computer, and there's even a story mode where you have to gather the jewel shards while fighting battles along the way, playing as either Inu-Yasha or Kagome. In VS mode some of the taglines are priceless... for example when you defeat Shippo, sometimes he'll say something along the lines of "I hope you are proud of yourself for beating a kid!" ^_^;

So if you want a good time without having to spend days memorizing a bunch of new finishing moves, give this game a try.

Suprised the heck out of me

I decided to rent this(Thinking it was just another piece-o-[stuff] game Bandi put out just to sell, like DBZ Ultamate Battle 22), But yet it was suprisingly good. And the game was subtitled, instead of dubbed(The american voices are good, but not as good, and as into it as the Japanese Voices).
Pros:
A suprisingly good Battle system
Has the whole inuyasha cast of main characters
It's pretty fun collecting juel shards
Characters have 3 good moves, then one very strong attack
If you love the stories and stuff, then the replay value may be high
2 player mode is pretty fun at times
Sometimes funny was how Some character ends up fighting each other(Like when Kagome didn't have no treats for Shippo)
Cons:
Can't Bandi for once in their lifetime leave the 2D graphics to Street Fighter
When I put the game on normal, it felt like they were on hard
Characters could at least move their mouths while talking

Well, I love Inuyasha the show, and I love this game. If you love Inuyasha, then don't hesitate to pick up this game

Great show...Unbalanced Game

Being a fan of anime and fighting games, this was a tough call. This game has its pros and cons. Characters include: Inuyasha, Kagome, Shippo, Miroku, Sango, Koga, Kikyo, Sesshomaru, Naraku, Kagura, Totosai, and Demon Inuyasha. Only the first five are available without playing the Feudal Fairytale mode.

The Fairytale mode itself is the game's biggest letdown. It contains almost no story and only a bit of replayabilty. You walk around until you land on a space with a character on it, then you do battle. After you beat five characters or so, you get to go fight Naraku. If you collect enough jewel shards (You collect them during battle by successfully perform a certain attack that is listed before you start) you unlock a new character. This game uses the character's Japanese voices, which is interesting, although I would have preferred the English voice actors.

The fighting is plain and simple. Circle and Triangle are for regular punches, kicks, and slashes. X is used to parry, and Square is used to perform special attacks. All characters have three special attacks and a Super attack.

After beating the game once, you unlock Kagome's Backpack, which contains the voice change mode, where you can change what characters say during battle (which doesn't really matter if you can't understand Japanese), The Picture gallery, where you can look at pictures that are unlocked in the Fairytale mode, Sound test mode, where you can listen to sounds and music from the game, and Minigame mode, where you can play the three minigames.

The graphics and sound are questionable, even for a playstation game. The characters are very animated though and the music is nice.

Overall InuYasha is a so/so game. It has its flaws but it's great for fans of the show.

Great and engaging

This game is, in a way, your rather standard fighting, PS1 game. You stand facing your opponent in a 2D environmnent and battle it out. There are several things that make this game better than just your average fighters.

- Duh, it's InuYasha!
- Because it comes from a TV show, there is kind of a plot that goes with it, and it keeps the game more interesting.
- The plot changes as you earn new characters to play with.
- Each character has their own special moves and abilities.
- Hint hint - if you get the game, definitely try to get Kouga. If you use his Demon Wind attack over and over, it's impossible for your opponent to even move. Yeah, it's a little cheap, but that's okay if the other guy's been whippin' [you] all day. Besides that, Kikyo's really the best, but Sesshoumaru rocks too.
- The controls are never hard to remember.
- There are several bonus things to unlock that would really appeal to InuYasha fans, but I'm not going to give away what they are.

Mega-ultra-awesome for mega-ultra-nerds.

Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale is a wonderful game for the InuYasha fan. It's great because if you are a huge fan of the show, it expands the show into another medium in which you become the characters. A warning though, if you don't know what InuYasha is or are mildly interested in the show, do NOT buy this game because you will not enjoy it.
The graphics are surprisingly great for a playstation game. Good detail and the characters look like themselves. Good use of shadow. The graphics don't compare to playstation two, but for playstation, they are great.
On the show one can only watch the characters develop and battle but in this game, you are the characters. You have to earn characters by progressing in the games, but after one has mastered the game you can play InuYasha, Kagome, Miroku, Shippo, Sango, Sesshomaru, Kagura, Totosai, Naraku, and demon InuYasha. I don't believe I left anyone out.
The game has a loose story that isn't in sync with the show, but it is close. There is a story and some animated sequences any die-hard InuYasha fan should see.
There are some drawbacks to the game, though. It is incredibly short and takes less than a day to get all the characters and everything, if you have a four or five hour block to play it. The game also is in Japanese(spoken) but is written in English, some anime fans prefer Japanese, but I do not. It has nothing to do with my attention span or anything, I have come to associate the American voice-over artists with the characters. The game also only has one save slot, so no more than one can save.
I sound rather enthusiastic about this game mostly because I enjoy InuYasha quite a bit. If you have no idea what InuYasha is, don't bother playing this game, because it will be of no value to you, I can not stress that enough.

A Quality Fighting Game

InuYasha has great 2D graphics and an easy to learn fighting system. Combos are done by pressing the attack button repeatedly. Special attacks can be done by only pressing the directional pad plus the triangle button. You don't have to remember everyone's special move ; it's the same! You can also have tag team battles. It's no "Street Fighter" but it is a great game.

Inuyasha Tons of Fun

I got Inuyasha 4-10-03, the day it came out (well at my mall). And it is pretty much a fun game. My favorite character is Shippo. Right now the only things I've unlocked are Backpack option, Koga, Kikyo, Kagura, and you already have Inuyasha, Kagome, Miroku, Shippou, and Sango when the game starts off. So right now I'm trying to unlock Sesshomaru, Naraku, and those 2 secret characters who I'm not exactly sure of who they are from the shadowed picture in the book. I have 99 shards. I've beat the Feudal Fairy Tale mode about 3 times and they just stopped giving me characters when I beat it. I thought I was supposed to get another character each time I beat the game or something. But do they just give you characters randomly? If not what do you have to do in the Feudal Fairy Tale mode to get more characters? Does ANYONE know?(please email me if you know) But other than unlocking the characters being confusing it is pretty much a fun and easy game. The gameplay is simple. The easiest way to fight is to use the directional buttons along with the triangle button. This game is every bit as good as the show. The game follows the storyline and has 6 modes in all. Feudal Fairy Tale Mode (collect shards), VS Fairy Tale Mode (battle against com or against a friend), Dream Fairy Tale Mode (fight 2 on 2), Myoga's Training Mode(practice), Shippo's Seven Changes Mode (options), and Backpack Mode (listen to music, look at images, and play mini games, this mode has to be unlocked). The game is very familiar to Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22. All in all this game is great for Inuyasha fans and fighting game fans alike. A must buy for anime lovers.

A good buy for an Inu-Yasha fan.

It is not the greatest game, but is quite fun to play. You can play 1 on 1, 2 on 2, 1 and comp on comp and comp, or 1 on comp. It is a really easy game once you get the hang of the controls so I suggest that you put it on the hardest setting. You can play as Inu-Yasha, Kagome, Sesshoumaru, Miroku, Sango, Kouga, Shippou, Naraku, Kagura, and Kikyou. (Secret Characters are Youkai (Demon) Inu-Yasha and Totosai.) The graphics are 2-D so they look like something for SNES (Super Nintendo.) There is no blood, even with Airborne Blood Blades (Claws of Blood.) All the dialogue is in Japanese with English subtitles. The characters Kagura and the first secret character have never been in either the English manga or anime. The game in 2 player mode is in the form of a tag team. You cannot both fight at the same time. My favorite characters are the first secret character and Inu-Yasha.

A must for Inuyasha fans

While not the best game in the world, I still think it is a must for any major Inuyasha fan collection. The controls and moves are easy to figure out. The music is great, it comes right from the show. My favorite mode in this game is the "Feudal Fairy Tale". You select a character and battle for the Sacred Jewel shards, much like the series. You can also play in vs. mode with either the COM or your friends, tag team or single. My least favorite thing about this game is the original Japanese voices. Yes, they have subtitles, but in my opinion it's still annoying. For example, when you win a match the character shouts something in victory but if you don't know Japanese you're not going to understand it. Small things like that. I wish Bandai could have took the time to re-voice the game with the English voice actors. Perhaps they will for future games. If you can get over the voices, this is a very cool game.

An overall good fighting game

Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale (2003.) A game based on the Inuyasha anime/manga series.

In recent times, I discovered the Inuyasha anime/manga series, and have been nothing short of impressed by it. The series is the brainchild of Rumiko Takahashi, who also created the wildly-popular Ranma 1/2 series. Of course, when any series of any sort gets wildly popular, animes in particular, they get made into video games. Perhaps the most common type of game they get made into is a fighting game. And that's just what happened for Inuyasha. In 2003 in America, Inuyasha - A Feudal Fairy Tale got released in America. Read on for my review of the Playstation One fighting game.

THE GOOD:
The most obvious good trait about this game is that you can play as the main cast from the anime/manga. You start with the classic quintet of Inuyasha, Kagome, Miroku, Sango, and Shippo, but you can unlock other characters from the series, including Sesshomaru and Koga. That's ten-plus characters you can play as, which is pretty good for a Playstation One game. Each character has his or her own special moves, which are accurate to the series. The moves are VERY easy to perform, too, which means newbies will have no trouble pulling them off. The basic control scheme is also fairly convenient, meaning you can pick it up right away. In addition to special attacks, each character has a super special attack they can perform when their super bar is full (does this remind anyone of a little game a few years back called "Street Fighter"?) For instance, Miroku's super move is his signature Wind Tunnel, and Sango will unleashed the transformed Kilala on her foe. To unlock new characters and levels, there is a story mode. By playing through and collection shards of the Sacred Jewel, you can unlock stuff. All these elements make for a gameplay experience sure to please most any Inuyasha fan.

THE BAD:
I'm not going to lie and say that this game is a masterpiece, because it isn't. If you're looking for an innovative, masterful game that is looking to take the fighting game crown left vacant by Street Fighter, you're not going to find it here. Likewise, you're not likely to enjoy the game if you're not an Inuyasha fan. Likewise, the special attack variety for characters could have been better - every character's moves are performed practically the same way, and the lack of complexity in the fighting engine will be a turn-off to some. Another flaw is the graphics and resolution. The resolution is very choppy when the characters move around, and likewise, the graphics look like they belong on the Super Nintendo. I know this is the Playstation ONE and not the Playstation TWO, but still, Bandai could have done so much better with the graphics. My last complaint is with the number of characters. It's not ab bad number by any means, but the fact of the matter is that there are so many cool characters in the show that should have been selectable, including some of the lesser demons the cast battled against (Yuri of the Hair, from early in the series, comes to mind.) Many of these flaws hurt the game, but it's still an overall good experience. Still, unless you're an Inuyasha fan, it won't be worth hunting down the out of print game.

OVERALL:
Overall I'm pretty happy with this game, but I wont deny that it has its share of flaws. If you're looking for an Inuyasha game, you've found it. If you're looking for a devastating masterpiece, look elsewhere. This IS a good game, but in a lot of ways, it's definitely an aquired taste. Keep in mind this is a Playstation ONE game, and my four-star rating is a bit generous (it's relative to similar games from the same era.) If you're an Inuyasha die-hard who wants a fighting game with the characters, buy this. If you're anything less, you may want to wait for Feudal Combat, the Playstation Two fighting game slated for a release later this year.
