Where's the hairpin at Long Beach

The circuits have been altered too much from their true form. For instance, Long Beach becomes almost an oval, without the haripin, tight first turn, etc. It didn't feel like I was there.

I'm glad I only rented it!!!

While the positives for this game include CART licensing, real driver names and track modeled after the real thing, the negative far out weigh the positives in CART Fury. Many negative aspects include the load time - I spent more time waiting for the game to load than playing it, the cartoon like graphics, the lack of turns on the tracks - the real life track names are only modeled after the real thing and many do not come close. All of the tracks are almost perfect ovals with very little turning involved.

And Finally the game play.

While I am Gran Turismo pro, loosing only a race here and there, the race AI in this game is completely unrealistic. It is not uncommon in this game to fall behind to last place for the first couple of laps only to astonishingly go form last to first on the last lap of the race.

To sum it up, this game is so bad, I am forced to even consider renting a NASCAR game. :(

Excellent, but not for simulation fans

I was an avid fan of Indy-style racing long before the CART/IRL split, so I figured I would enjoy CART Fury. However, I love the game primarily because it gets AWAY from simulation-style racing games.

At 60fps, the action is fast and furious. Except for the nearly-impossible Simulation Mode, all the features of the game are very arcadeized. Even the courses based on real-world circuits are arcadeized; for example, compare Surfer's Paradise (Australia) in CART Fury and Newman-Haas racing, and the arcadization is explicit. However, success often depends on how many cars in front of you crash and burn, and this usually occurs directly in front of you, making rapid reflexes a must.

Perhaps the biggest pitfall of the game is the cast of objectified women. On many screens, one of these busty ladies - supposedly a crew chief - gives you tips or information as you make a menu selection or wait while the game loads. After winning a race or championship, your car is shown on a raised platform, while a videoscreen behind the car shows these same women dancing, presenting a trophy, and generally trying to be hypersexual. This will likely turn off most female players from this game.

If the Simulation Mode was easier and the game's loading times faster, I would definitely rate this as a "5." Overall, objectifiaion aside, this is a great game for those who are not simulation fans.

This game is totally awesome. The graphics are so high-tech. This is a GOGOGO for all racing lovers. The sub games rock. If you think arcade is to easy the sim mode!! This game rocks. it brings racing games to a higher level of FUN!!!

Frustrating Game

This game started out fun enough. It was only my second racing game (the first being Moto GP) and I thought I was missing something. It turns out that it was the game that was missing something. The earlier tracks are easy enough but as you go up they become increasingly difficult until there is little more involved then sheer luck and even that doesn't work. Cars crash and this is about the only way you can move up in the posistions. There are only a few songs and they rapidly become annoying. The effects are nothing special and the cars fly apart in large chunks, all in all it's not very thrilling. The hidden bonus cars are fairly ridiculious and a few even make it difficult to drive because you can't see the track as they are so big, there's actually a car in the shape of a big spider (legs and all). This was a pretty disappointing game.

This game is the fastest racing game Ive played for PS2. Tons of fun. I recommend this game to anyone into racing games...

Midway as always...

Reading some of the other reviews kind of surprised me. There were a lot complaints about the "unrealism" and how it "shouldn't have CART in the title". I guess I went into this realizing it was from Midway. I have never bought a Midway game looking for realism. I bought NFL Blitz for the complete foolishness of it. I mean, wrestling moves, tossing players off the field, and the like in a football game? And NHL Hitz, another absolutely realistic hockey game. Midway has always had a record of taking serious gameplay and having fun with it. They also have done a good job at bringing the arcade home. Spy Hunter, Guantlet, Mortal Kombat, Paperboy and other classics are redone and re-released for our enjoyment...and maybe for a bit of nostalgia. If you're looking for a sports game, and looking for realism, Midway should definitely not be on your list. If you're looking for something a bit more zany and "unrealistic", Midway is your manufacturer. I only gave CARTFury 2 stars, simply because I felt it got boring a lot quicker then most of their other games normally do. I also felt that even with the arcade in mind, the handling was a bit less smooth then many of their other games possesed. I liked the idea for it, but think that their next installment will likely be better.
