BEST RACING GAME FOR PS2 ?

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 4 / 7

In my opinion this is hands down the best racer for PS2. CART Fury has some great game play, cool graphics and some cool sub game modes to dabble in. My first question was whether it would offer enough depth with knowing it was converted from an arcade game. Midway did a great job taking an arcade racer and giving it depth for the home. Arcade Mode is fast and fun, easy to sit down and just rip out a few games. Simulator Mode gets alot more challenging with having to qualify for position and having control over several settings of how your car handles. Sim mode definatly is much harder than Arcade Mode and is NOT easy to beat... still working on that ; )

The Sub Game Modes, from what Ive played so far, seem fun. Lock On Mode and Demolition seem to be the best modes.... actually blowing up cars and ramming into other cars to take them out of the race. Driving School Mode is basic and there really isnt much to it except for unlocking cars..... there probably could of been more here?

One of the most ground breaking things in this game that I havent seen yet for any other racers is the intense car crashes. The cars literally tumble, fly, burn, crash, explode... its out of hand. Other racing games need more of this! The last thing you want to do is crash, but when you do, you actually dont mind so much being able to see these cars explode, debris flying everywhere. The only thing I would of liked to see more with wrecks is when the car took damage, it would of been cool if it affected the handling of the car more.

As far as tracks go..... from previous CART/Nascar/F1 games Ive played, it was refreshing to have alot of "fantasy" tracks as well as "real" race tracks. They have a Moon track with huge jumps, New York has a ton of stuff in the road that you can ram into (very real in terms of a what you would expect from a NYC track). Also a track up in the mountains, a construction track and a few other fantasy tracks. As expected, because its a liscensed CART game, they have most of the real tracks they race on like Long Beach, Surfers Paradise, Road America, etc.

If you are considering buying a racer for PS2, so far CART Fury is the one to get. I give it 4 stars!

not bad, not bad at all

i picked up cart fury the other day and for the most part its a fun driving game. very arcade style game play. very easy to learn the controls. the graphics where pretty good too. there a little cartoonsih but nothing to bad. the only down side i saw too it (and its nothing big) i wish there was an replay mode after a race. i think it would be pretty cool to see diffrent angles of the race.

overall if your a race fan and you cant wait till gt3 comes out this should tide you over till then.

Good, but could be better

If any of you have CART World Series for PS1, don't expect anything from CART Fury. This is not a sim, it is nothing but arcade smashing and high flying. It only has 10 drivers, and every track is an oval, thats right, not a single course where you actually have to brake. But it is fun, and nice to have a CART racing game for PS2.

fun ...

Grab a friend and fire up two player mode, cancel all your plans, this one is a blast! Got to be one of the best arcade style racers I've played. The only bummer is no replay mode. I want to be able to see the detruction I leave behind over and over. Graphics 9/10 play=9/10 sound=5/10 load times=2/10 (sloooowwwww load times, but I've seen worse)

Fast Fast Fast

As an avid race fan and game player, I'd like to see anyone step to the challenge that CART Fury presents. I've played just about every racing game since NES and Genesis (who can forget Danny Sulivan's Indy Heat?), and CART Fury is the first game to give me a REAL challenge. The graphics are great and the music is fast-paced, giving the game an intensity that all racers deserve. The arcade mode is especially great for two players, with superboost and super-tight races every time. As far as simulation mode, I DARE YOU! If you like racing games or if you need a good challenge, go pick up CART Fury.

Great Game!!

Midway's Cart Fury is a great game. This game plays alot like Midway's other arcade hit Hydro Thunder. There are a few similarities such as secret paths, power ups, and it being incredibly challenging.

There are quite a few differences, which are all good. This game uses CART cars (open wheel/ Indy style race cars) with actual big name drivers that you can select such as Michael Andretti, Christian Fittapaldi, Adrian Fernandez, Max Papis, Bryan Herta, Gil de Ferran, and a few others.

The graphics are absolutely stunning. The sheer sense of speed is uncanny. Wait until you see cars explode and scatter debris on the track, right in front of you, this is extremely cool. The selection of tracks is large, and are very fun to race on. The two player mode is a blast to play. The Super Boost power up is too cool for words. The soundtrack could have been a little better ( the song that plays during the menu selection will have you hitting the mute button on your TV temporarily).

The mini games will have you playing this game longer, when you get bored with the single race or season modes. There are also several things that you have to unlock in this game, that depends on how you finish in a race.

Bottomline, This game has excellent graphics, extremely fun gameplay, and great replay value. You will keep playing this one for a long time, even after Gran Turismo 3 arrives in July.

Highly Recommended!!

Really under the expectations, after read other's review

I don't understand what all this people are thinking?.. if you are looking for a formula 1 race game, I don't recommend this game. It's fast I addimited that. But there is no realistic play conditions. You get tried really fast because there isn't challenge ... Sorry, but is better you wait for a real game....

I race cars, this game doesn't know what racing is. I enjoy true to life simulation. This game had no simulation. I have always enjoyed Gran Turismo, NASCAR and Grand Prix games...

But this one just wasn't what I expected especially since it is on a platform that could do so much more.

I'm glad I only rented it!!!

While the positives for this game include CART licensing, real driver names and track modeled after the real thing, the negative far out weigh the positives in CART Fury. Many negative aspects include the load time - I spent more time waiting for the game to load than playing it, the cartoon like graphics, the lack of turns on the tracks - the real life track names are only modeled after the real thing and many do not come close. All of the tracks are almost perfect ovals with very little turning involved.

And Finally the game play.

While I am Gran Turismo pro, loosing only a race here and there, the race AI in this game is completely unrealistic. It is not uncommon in this game to fall behind to last place for the first couple of laps only to astonishingly go form last to first on the last lap of the race.

To sum it up, this game is so bad, I am forced to even consider renting a NASCAR game. :(
