Soul Reaver 2, The best in the series!

Soul Reaver 2 is one fo the best games in the Legacy of Kain series featuring a practically easy play. The buttons are easy to use and there are not millions of buttons! Although the story line is probably not the easiest to understand but most gamers dont crae about the story line they just wanna play! Well SO2 is extremely playable ad there are puzzles to make you think. Theres is only 1 challenging area and that is the Fire forge that gives the Soul Reaver the elemental power of fire but it is right at the end of the game. The last part of the game has loads of bosses and you face them one after another but you are invincible so its quite easy! If you want to start the Legayc of Kain path then you should consider starting with either Blood Omen 2 or Soul Reaver 2 both have good gameplay and slightly challenging but can be done!

I just finished the game. It was the quickest I have ever finished any game I ever had by far! I have read in other reviews that the graphics were outstanding and one person even went so far as to say they were the best to date. I heartily disagree. The environment may be beautiful, but the character renderings are a step down from the previous game. I was expecting an improvement being that it was coming out on the Playstation 2 console and was disappointed. Save points in the game were frustratingly far apart. Also ran into a few to many glitches during the game and had to restart it from the previous save point. So much for the bad stuff. On the good side, the story is fantastic. I don't know why all the reviews say that the plot is complicated. It's intriguing and gripping. The sound is wonderful (great music) and the voice acting is top notch. But just like the previous game, it leaves you in a lurch. Makes me feel like I played the entire game for nothing. There was no resolution! Wonder if Eidos plans to roll all the games up in one tight package and remarket it after the final conclusion (hopefully in Soul Reaver 3).

I just got this game today and, after playing for about 2 hours straight, I must say that this game is amazing beyond my wildest expectations. The game starts out with a cinema depicting the somewhat disappointing ending of the first game and it just takes off from there. Right away you learn that things are not what they seemed in the first game. Allies are now seen to be enemies and the person that you thought was your worst enemy may just be your ally (in a way). And you don't have to worry if you miss some of the dialogue in the cinemas because every time you see a cinema you gain access to its script. The game comes with some extras too. There is a lot of concept art and you can also watch as the actors do the voices for the characters. You have to buy this game. It is looking to be the best I have ever played (I don't care much for the Final Fantasy games, though).

Too Much Flash, Not Enough Game

If you've played "The Bouncer" then you know what I'm talking about (but SR2 isn't even close to being THAT bad). The game has great graphics, an innovative story line and awesome voice talent. But the game itself is short from start to finish (I don't count movies as playing time), easier than the first (especially if you have played the first) and as far as I can tell, there aren't any secrets to find. It's an enjoyable game, but when it ended, I had the "Is that all" feeling. Overall, I'm disappointed that with all of the delays this is the final result. I recommened that you rent it because it won't take long enough to finish to be worth buying.

Disappointment

Don't get me wrong, this game was a great deal of fun for the 4 hours it lasted.

Crystal Dynamics promised a sequel to Soul Reaver and delivered an expansion. New abilities? They are non existant. In fact, abilities from the first game have been taken away. Explore Nosgoth? Well yes, very a small portion. You explore it in 3 different eras but it's still the same place.

The bottom line is that fans of the series should rent this game. You can easily beat it over a weekend. Hopefully SR3 will finally give Soul Reaver fans a finished product.

... for 3 days of game play-graphics great but gameplayshort

Like many of you, I have been waiting for SR2 to finally come. I replayed the original soul reaver over again finding all the secrets and exploring to my hearts content.
I got SR2 and was amazed at the graphics, puzzles, and the cinematics. It was a great addition to the series, and I pressed on just like in SR1.
Then the game was over..., Just like that
I was expecting many hours of game play just like in the original. I was expecting big bosses to fight, more puzzles to solve, more story to hear (although I have to say that there is alot of Cinegraphics in this DVD).
They should have made it more playable instead of cutting it short. When I passed the game I saw a screen that said, to unlock the bonus material...."I said to my self, no way, this can't be it, it couldn't have finished it already, I just bought it 3 days ago" NO , it was the end of the game, and left me feeling like I should have rented it first.
It's a different thing if you know its gonna be short, but when you put down 50 bucks and find out very soon that it is a short game, well, you feel disappointed.
Anyhow, it's a good game with good challanges and graphics, I just hope that the next one is longer and closer to the original with NEW TALENTS to get, BIG BOSSES TO FIGHT, and MORE Hours of gameplay.

I can't really love this game

I like the Kain games, but this one kind of irritates me. The graphics are gorgeous, the story is compelling, the voice acting is above-average, the combat is definitely better than the first Soul Reaver, the design work is amazing, etc. The problem I have is with saving. The level design is OK, but the puzzles, while well-constructed, take too darn long to complete. Between figuring out what you need to do and backtracking as you do it, it can take upwards of an hour to complete one of the level-sized puzzles, during which the game will not allow you to save. I want to be able to save my progress as I go, so if something interrupts my playing time (like the need to sleep, for example), I can stop when I want to, not a half-hour later when I've finally solved the puzzle. I think that unfortunately the game designers left out the ability to save at will so that players wouldn't realize how short their game really is. That's probably the same reason you can't skip the movies once you've seen them. But I'm telling you that, short or not, I would actually enjoy playing this game alot more if I knew that I didn't have to sit through those interminable cinemas or run around and turn those silly mirrors all over again.

Great Game, Definately Worth Buying

If you liked the previous games in this series or Devil May Cry, this game is for you. The story is a bit involved, so I won't even try to explain it. The graphics are amazing, though a bit dark. The gameplay is very well done, and the story is pretty linear so you're never really wondering what to do or where to go next. The control system works well with the game. The puzzles are a bit challenging, but not too hard either. Overall, this game is very well done. Also, there is a preview of Blood Omen 2, which looks very promising.
