One of the best games on PS2

I almost never give five stars but this game is by far one of my favorite if not thee favorite game for my Playstation 2.

I really like the original Tenchu on PS1 and then was very disappointed by Tenchu 2 on the PS1 with no sounds and graphics that seemed a tad worse than the original.

This game comes back to being like the original Tenchu but many leagues better. The graphics, environments, sounds and music are the best yet behind perhaps Final Fantasy X and maybe a few others.

The controls are great and more accurate the the original games and the body language and movements of your character and even the enemies are truly fantastic. The stealth kills will really get you revved up for more.

The special moves, the stealth, items and weapons and incredible patience waiting for the next kill is what really makes this game great. The only thing that could habe improved a bit is the ability to retry a level while your playing without having to reset the game, and perhaps adding an extra save feature for those levels that are rather long.

Hours of replayabity and simultaneous 2 player modes simply make this game that much more fun. (2 player modes feature you and a friend teaming up or against each other ninja vs. ninja.)

This game is very well programmed. Very nicely done indeed.

Another Reason to Buy the PS2!

Tenchu 3 is perhaps the best of the Tenchu series in that it takes full advantage of the PS2 hardware capabilities. There's an interesting plot or multiple plots depending on which of the 3 characters you pick. I personally liked picking Tessu the doctor/assasin. Out of the three characters, he seems the most likely person I would identify with, heck I even look like him with that cold a thousand yard stare of his. Ayame is a lot easier to control but unfortunately she's still on the weak side. Rikimaru is more of a well rounded character of the three. The missions are of moderate to high difficulty depending mostly on which character you pick. I found Ayame's missions more difficult. This is a game for which the PS2 was made! There are plenty cheat codes available but try to beat it without cheating. It's a much more fulfilling experience.

'' ONE OF THE BETTER NINJA GAMES '' ! !

THERE ARE VERY FEW GAMES OUT THERE THAT WARRANT PLAYING IT A FEW TIMES WITH THE NEW CHARACTERS IN STORY MODE. ESPECIALLY PLAYING IT IN A HARDER MODE -OR JUST PLAYING IT ONE MORE TIME... BUT THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE ..THE BETTER YOU ARE AT NOT BEING SPOTTED , CAN GET YOU A GOOD RATING .AND WHAT DOES THAT DO FOR YOU YOU MAY ASK ? WELL YOU GET OTHER TYPES OF COOL ITEMS OR WEAPONS -AS WELL AS SPECIAL ABILITIES .IF YOU KILL 9 BAD ASSES IN STEALTH MODE , YOU EARN YOUR ASS A SPECIAL MOVE . WHICH SOME PLAYERS MIGHT LIKE ,AND IT CAN EVEN MAKE YOUR GAME A BIT EASIER ..A LOT MORE DISTRACTIONS TO THE ENEMY -SO YOU CAN SNEAK UP ON THEM AND KILL THEM IN ANY WAY THAT YOU MAY LIKE..THE BLOW GUN IS COOL TO USE AS WELL , BUT THE SNEAKING IS THE BEST !!AND THE CAMERA VIEW/PAN OPTION IS A BIG PLUS IN THIS GAME .THAT WAY YOU CAN KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE ENEMY ,SEE WHEN THE COAST IS ALL CLEAR . AND THEN SNEAK IN , AND CUT THEIR THROATS IN ONE SWIFT MOTION!!LINE '' KILL BILL '' EVEN ..BUT YOU CAN STILL BEAT THE GAME AND BE LUCKY TO WALK AWAY WITH A NINJA RATING .. BUT USE THE MAP , IT IS VERY USEFUL .AND IT IS EASY TO SEE WHERE YOUR ASS SHOULD BE GOING ..BUT GET THE GUIDE TOO , AS IT IS ALSO VERY USEFUL TO YOU..AS WELL..MUCH BETTER THAN THE TOO HARD GAME'' SHINOBI '' .. A BIT HARD BUT MORE FUN THAN TRYING TO PLAY'' SHINOBI ''OVER AND OVER TILL YOU GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND WORTH THE TIME PLAYING.. THEY ALSO HAVE 3 AREAS IN EACH LEVEL , THAT HAS ENEMIES IN DIFFERENT PLACES ..SO IT PLAYS A LOT DIFFERENT.. AND ALSO CHECK OUT '' CHAOS LEGION '' TOO FOR A COOL NEW GAME TO PLAY !! IT IS HARD BUT LOADS OF FUN TO PLAY !! AS WELL AS '' GLADIATOR-SWORD OF VENGEANCE '' WHICH DOESN'T GET BORING LIKE '' RYGAR ''..SO GET IT TODAY AND HAVE SOME REAL FUN ON YOUR WORKDAYS , AND WEEKENDS..YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED ..

This series needs something more...

I've played all the other Tenchu games to date and this one is definetly better than the second one they tried to pass over as a game ahwile back. But it stops there - there is nothing really new here at all. This game is very similiar to the first Tenchu in many aspects but not new in many at all. Controls and sounds are pretty close - with some new power-up moves and ways of rewarding the stealthier ninja players.
One thing I can not stand is the fact that there is no savepoints in the game. You screw up in the middle of a level, or how about falling off a cliff at the end of a level, and you can just kiss your 30min of perfect stealth kills goodbye, cause you get to start over from the beginning, oh what joy.
If you liked the first Tenchu - this has the same basic formula and will not dissapoint. If you like for developers to expand on ideas and actually try to improve their games, look elsewhere. This is a graphics update and story change from the first Tenchu in a nutshell. Decent game, great idea with the stealth kills but bad design descisions for the player to enjoy themselvs.

Excellent game

This game is great but it fails to acomplish its goal to be the best of the series. I hope Tenchu 4 will improve in all its aspects.
Here are the pros and cons for the game.

Pros:
-Awsome graphics.
-New stealth kills.
-New hidden player.
-New moves.
-Bonus stage
-Creative new bosses.
-Co-op mode.
-Realisticly bloody and violent.
-New hidden outfits

Cons:
-Some of the old stealth kills are gone!!!
-Can't drag and hide bodies anymore. Someones bound to see them.
-Hereos move too slow (rikimaru was sprinting in the intro).
-Can't sheath weapons anymore... less realistic.
-Some of the levels are played twice, just starting at the opposite end. Too repetitive
-No more backflips!! that was my favorite move and helped during boss fights!
-Can't stealth kill animals. This game is suppose to be real.
-Why does the first boss that rikimaru fights say the same line as
that first boss from Tenchu 1?!? It's annoying and not original.
-Can't press start/select to restart a level in case you mess up
-Can't swim in stealth anymore.
-Rikimaru's hidden long sword makes him move even slower!! Is it really that heavy?
-Rikimaru's hidden armour makes him move to slow and jump less higher.
-Ayame's face looks kinda chubby.
-Can't use Tatsumaru in co-op mode.
-WEAK explanation to show how rikimaru came back from the first game. He was hidding in a portal? It would've been nice to do a couple stealth kills in that beginning forest before jumping off the cliff.
-Can't kill one shot with a boring arrow to the head or chest.
-Rikimaru's feign death technique can barely kill an enemy because
most of the time, he's facing the wrong way.
-Ayame's sexy hidden outfit from Tenchu 1 is gone!!!
-The enemy AI is weak, for instance if your seen the enemy will get startled for a few seconds and than will act like nothing happened. They won't even be more cautious than they were.

The number of cons over the pros speaks for itself, and there's propably more problems I forgot to mention. Great for anyone who's never played Tenchu before and just wants to have fun. Bad for anyone expecting a better all around game from the previous two. They tried to make this game realistic but most of the cons gets annoying and unbearable over time. 3 stars just because i'm a long time Tenchu fan.

Best [] Played Thoroughly

I enjoyed the original Tenchu games for the PSX, mostly due to the fact that ninjas are the coolest thing ever! "Tenchu 3:Wrath of Heaven" continues the story of Rikimaru and Ayame, lord Gohda's principle assassin's. The story, to be perfectly honest, is not the reason that you will really wanted to play the game. I just wanted to enjoy the gratifying feeling of sneaking around and slicing enemy guards throats.

I found Tenchu to be a breath of fresh air in a time were there is simply too much attention on games like GTA and Metal Gear. Those are both great series of games, but they just don't feel the same to me. I am an RPG gamer, this world of demons, ninjas and stealth just feels right to me.

The game is very fun, will definately keep you glued to the television for a while...

Great graphics, just a little too repetitive

When i first got this game i was astounded at the goodness and killing abitlities of these ninga assasins. As you progress the game gets harder and harder. After a while you get bored and the game gets stale.

Do NOT believe it has co-op play!

The "co-op" of this game is not, I repeat NOT part of the main game. It is a hack-and-slash mission where you run around collecting things. It is NOT something that anyone in their right mind would deem as a co-op game. My wife actually enjoys playing co-op games with me, and this was a waste of $$$.

If you don't have a real co-op game, don't throw in a little timer controlled one-shot and call it a co-op game.

terrible

This game is hardly as good as its counterparts Tenchu 1 and 2. The camera angles are terrible. I've played the demo and this games graphics are as bad as on PS1. The fighting is hard and you are terrible outmatched against a boss. the only way to kill a guy are stealth kills but if you get found out and you against regular guys you will get your but kicked making you a relatively weak fighter. Definately don't buy this or even rent it. its a waster of time and money.
