It tries to be good but in the end it just can't do it

Tenchu 1 and 2 are among my favorite games of all time. The strategy involved in sneaking around is great. I really enjoyed the first two but tenchu 3 just doesn't stand out like the other two did. Now let me be honest, this isn't a bad game. It just didn't do what a sequel should do. A sequel should bring large additions to the game but at the same time it should address issues that needed to be fixed from the past versions. This game does have some additions. It has a new story line and a multiplayer mode but they took away the level designer. They also have done nothing about the camera angles. I actually think that the camera angles were better in the first 2. The enviornments are very close quarters but the camera is horrid. When trying to sneak around a corner you'll have to manually move the camera and then it tends to jump from a view behind your guy to a view that is too far beside your guy. So you only get the view that you want for a split second. It can be very frustrating. Also some of the levels are very linear. I would recommend renting this game before you buy. The hard core stealth fans may enjoy this game if they can get past the horrid camera angles.

BEST GAME EVER

This is the BEST GAME EVER... Well, maybe not best game ever, but its a really good game. It's way better than any of the other Tenchu games. The graphics, the sound, the gameplay, the controls, everything is much better than Tenchu 1 and Tenchu 2. And for all you people who think this game [is bad] because of what you experienced on the demo, you need to go out and buy/rent this game right now because the game is very much improved from the demo.

A solid stealther

I am a huge fan of the Tenchu series, and although this first PS2 outing certainly didn't disappoint, I felt it wasn't quite the step up it could have been, considering how good the first two were on the PS1.

First off, one of the coolest things they've added is the multiplayer option, which to me really adds a fun elemant to the game, and is enough to get me to overlook a few of the negative aspects of the game. You have six multiplayer areas you can do together, so it's not a full game, but it's quite a bit. You can also do dual stealth kills in here, which is kinda cool.

Secondly, the atmosphere and feel of the game is what really shines, just like in the first two. The environments are incredible, and the stealthing around really gets your adrenaline going.

Now, about the combat engine. This is what I was hoping to see a bit more improved on, and while it does add a couple new aspects to the game, I felt it could have been a bit better. You now have the ability to grab people and throw them or do other things(head butts), which adds a nice componant to close-in fighting, and you can unlock 9 different moves during the coarse of the game by doing stealth kills. I haven't unlocked even half the new moves yet, but this does add another positive part to the combat.

Another thing that really adds serious replayability to the game is the fact that you can chose up to 3 different layouts for EACH level you do, which means your objectives are the same, but the level design is different, so that was a very good addition! I do have to note that you have to complete a level to unlock a second layout, and complete that to unlock the third layout. Not bad though.

I hope Activision continues with this series because it's very unique, but in this age of awesome combat/stealth games like MGS2:Sons of Liberty, they can't afford to skimp on the basics that really make for a solid game. With a few additions and tweaks, I think we could be in for a downright phenominal second addition for the PS2.

THE BEST GAME, PERIOD

Tenchu 3 Wrath of heaven is one of the coolist games i've ever played. The graphics are great and so is the gameplay and plot. It is EXTREAMLY gory though. If you either can't or don't want to see blood splatter every where and heads get chopped off, than this is NOT the game for you. The game play is challenging at times, and face-to-face battles are a little rough, but I don't know why people think that it has bad controls. All iin all, it will be a great experiance for gamers everywhere. I Deffinatly give it ***** in every catagorie.

Best Stealth game out there!

This game is just awesome; any one who says otherwise doesn't know how to use the buttons on the controller. The fight system is a major improvement over the other two it leaves a far smaller window for attacking the enemy. This game is also easy enough for the casual gamer yet challenging enough for the more intense gamers.

I aseptically like versus mode on the multi-player game, although I really miss the mission builder form Tenchu 2. This game does lack story dialogue and is way darker (theme) than Tenchu 2.

This game is why I bought a PS2!

what is wrong with you folk? Tenchu3 is incredible

First of all, you cant write a review based on the demo, or if you do, no one should read it. Second of all, Tenchu3 is way better than tenchu2 and even surpasses tenchu1 by quite a bit. I played non stop for three days and iam not usually such an obsessed gamer. I do however play alot of differant games, and this is one of the best for PS2. A definate buy.

Don't believe any of the bad reviews...

This game is much better than the last two. The music is fantastic with lots of noise :D The new gameplay is much easier and funner to use. It is not slow and bad like everyone else is saying. It was pratically the same as the old, but better. The stealth kills are very nicely done and the new items are great. The graphics are greatly improved with great lighting effects and nice smooth textures. The animation is also nice and smooth with the character movement and the cutscenes. Multiplayer is fun to play with but it isn't the greatest. So far, I have only found out that you can play six co-op missions with three different characters. The versus mode also is fun to play with too with a variety of characters to choose from. There are 10 missions per character and one bonus level for rikimaru (you need a code to play it) and you also can play the demo level which is also in need of a code, from what I've found out. The bosses are more challenging and enemy's AI is more enhanced. The new moves you earn, for every 10 stealth kills u get in a level, are great and can help alot. The only problems I saw with the game is that sometimes the camera angles can be a pain. While fighting someone in something like a pit, it's hard to see your enemy because your in such a small space, but usually it turns out alright, and they should of made the game longer I thought. Beating it with one character seems like it took an hour, but since there are three different characters with different routes taken on every level, I guess that makes it up for it. All in all, if you love games such as devil may cry and onimusha with LOTS of blood and fighting this is your game (8.

the first 2 games in the tenchu saga were my religion. when i heard this game was coming out i had to buy it immediately. with [$$$] in my hand and ... i bought it and wasn't let down. there are many surprises for the old schoolers. the reason i didn't give this game 5 stars is because they just can't top the first one. but i do believe this was the best they could have done for ps2. the only down sides are the enemies are 10 times harder to kill then on the first and second games. and the camera angles can [agravate] you ... at some point. but if you're a die hard fan like myself you can overlook that and see this is the best game ps2 has to offer.

It's Tops in Playability and Intrigue

If you think the other Tenchu's were good wait till you try this one on, the movement, the music, the graphics are VERY well done, and if you take your time in these mystical environments you will gain knowledge, skill and have a wonderful experience. A word of caution change the narrative and character comments to Japanese or you will soon tire of the English silliness. Good luck!

First of all, this game is AWSOME! the only bad part is getting through a mission completely undetected is really hard to do. the stealth kills are amazing and are both beautiful and deadly. Rikimaru is still badass and Ayame is still the hottest ninja around, but the third player Tesshu is kinda lame. He uses his fists and his stealth kills are too sick sometimes (like when he rips the enemy's heart out). The ninja weapons are even better now, every thing from shurikens to smoke bombs. And now you can pick up weapons the enemy drops, like spears and arrows. So get this game, pull off some awsome moves and remeber to live by honor, but always kill by stealth, cause you never know......
