Big disappointment, even for a Marvel fan

I'm a huge Marvel fan, and this game was still a big disappointment. The gameplay is poorly conceived and designed, and the game lacks challenge and grows old quickly. It's difficult to navigate the 3d map and to see what you're doing (I have a 27 inch TV). The NPCs present no challenge, even the bosses. The only times I've been killed have all been by some kind of environmental damage, a fire or whatever. The RPG element doesn't add much to the game. You'll find yourself stuck and frustrated by the puzzles and there's little sense of reward in completing them. None of the heroes are strongly differentiated.

That said, I think this would be a good game for kids 12 and under, but for an adult gamer, this is one of the worst titles out there that I've played. Heed the warnings and rent before you buy.

I hope future comic titles will be better.

Great game, great Co-op play

I've had this game for a while now and have played through it in its entirety once already. The gameplay itself is fairly simple, consisting mostly of punching and using special attacks but the character development system is incredibly deep. You have the ability to level your characters moves and outfits, equip different items, level your own specific team, acquire special team bonuses, and of course level your characters stats. This keeps the game entertaining because as your skills and attack level they become more useful and look slightly different. Depending on your skill your characters can end up being really strong compared to the enemies or really weak by the end of the game. After you have completed the game on normal you can start a new game on the hard difficulty using your already leveled characters. With so many characters to use, even some additional ones available soon through download, you are bound to find a team that you like and build them up to be incredibly powerful.

My personal favorite part of this game is the multiplayer cooperative play. You can play locally with you friends on one system or online. Playing online and offline is almost identical except that while online all players can upgrade/change their characters at the same time while you have to take turns while playing locally. Also if you start a local game with your friend and decide you want to continue playing online later you can do this by loading your save file on xbox live or vise-versa. Its that easy.

Overall there really isn't anyone I can think of who wouldn't like this game. Unless you don't have any friends, don't want any friends, and absolutely hate all things marvel. Otherwise I would say this game is worth playing. If one of your buddies is tired of you targeting him all the time in online play maybe you could get him to work through this game with you. He'll probably like you better afterward.

Eh...

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was okay. After playing X-Men Legends 1 and 2 I quickly became a bit bored with this game. MUA is essentially the exact same thing except for better graphics and a different selection of heroes to choose from. Admitedly, it's a fanboy's dream to be able to team up the likes of Spidey, Blade, Cap, and Thing, but once the nostalgia wears off the game gets old pretty quick. If you're looking for a "button masher" for the X360 I recommend Ninety Nine Nights, I was more impressed with that game that MUA. If you're a comic fan or have never played X-Men Legends 1 or 2 this game will keep you entertained for a while. If you've already played XML 1 and/or 2 you'll enjoy the new roster and change from cell-shaded graphics but you'll find yourself essentially playing the same game.

Lastly, bravo for the option of having subtitles. It still amazes me that there are games out there that don't have that option. For Deaf and Hard of Hearing gamers it's infuriating when subtitles are unavailable. Have to give credit where credit is due.

Ok..I am a big Comics fan. I really enjoyed this title. It is what i call a action/RPG (this means you DONT have to select what your gonna do in a fight like in the Final Fantasies and Knights of the old republic) you just smack down with the characters. The Rpg aspect comes in because you can increase certain powers and costumes. There are 20 playable characters. With your interaction with up to 160 diffrent characters. The Graphics are pretty impressive and the cinimatics are just first rate, the game play is pretty straight forward.. I will have to say sometimes the camera angle and be a pain and some times the character get stuck but for the most part that is a rarity. You get to create your own super team if you want and name it what ever you want. If you liked Xmen Ledgends you wil like this game period i gotta go play some more rock on...

DEFINITE RENTAL - fun, but repetitive and unoriginal. Don't buy it, unless you're a Marvel Comics Fanatic

This game is fun to play for a couple of days, but it's really just a slow hack-and-slasher with good production values. There's an RPG element, but it's so simple, you don't have to pay attention to it. They give you quests with no point like to get a password that you don't need, because even if you give them the wrong one, you go to the next level anyway.

It gets frustrating at times because the level designs are bad. For example, you might have to do some really weird trick to proceed to the next level, but they don't let you know, so you're stuck running around in circles for an hour or two. You get to choose whatever hero you want, but they're really exactly the same, but with different animations.

And the game gets REALLY, REALLY boring after a day or two.

What brings this up to 3 stars are all the extras they put in the game. The cinematics and voice acting are gorgeous. It's almost like they got Pixar to do the cut scenes. And the Marvel trivia game is fun. But of course this has nothing to do with the gameplay.

This may be the best comic book game but that's like saying Bloodrayne is the best Uwe Boll movie. If you're a Marvel comics nut, this game may be worth the buy. Otherwise just rent it from Blockbuster and keep it for 2 weeks. You'll thank me later. ;)

I haven't been paying attention to game previews (who has time) but I picked this game off the shelf last week only because I had to get rid off a store credit that I had to use that day and I almost bought a garden hose. I got home and after the first few minutes of game play I shut it off - it didn't look very impressive at all. A few days later I picked it up and realized that it wasn't just an action game - but it had an rpg side to it and since then I can't put it down. There are some 'quirks' to the game that bug me a lot but once you figure out how to work around them it's nothing compared to the fun you'll have. My non-gaming gf loves the button smashing game play and I take care of all the talent building (as we play in arcade mode). There's a lot more to the game than that but it's definately worth the money imo.

After playing this game, I was left waiting for more. There are hints of a possible sequel, and I can't wait. The great thing about this game, is out it doesn't follow one specific group of heroes, unless you count cinematics. You really do get to make your dream team, and you get to travel all across the Marvel Universe, from Stark Towers, to Atlantis, to Asgard, it's all there! The characters even have amusing interactions with each other. The only reason I gave this game a 4 out of 5 was due to the lack of amazing graphics and camera control. Co-op mode can be a little difficult too, since unless you guys are thinking the same thoughts, you will often find yourself running away from your friends and ending up stuck. The game is still great though, and I can't wait for a sequel!

My 14 year old son bought this game. I was worried that it would be too young for him but he has really enjoyed the game. I like that it isn't very violent!

Who wouldn't want to be Thor?

This is an enjoyable game for the most part. There a few sections (like playing pitfall - BORING) that require you to do some stupid things to get to the next area.
I haven't tried going online into Xbox Live, but I am sure that would be a blast. There a wide variety of characters to choose from - and one of the challenges is assembling a team that best fits your play style.
If you enjoy action/adventure games - MUA is a good buy!
