Who says you can't teach old games new tricks?

I recently brought this game after I saw it on sale at
Blockbuster. It's great. I've had my Super Nintendo since I
was 7 (I'm 12 now) so it's pretty old,but it's still fun to
play, and it was nice to have a new game after so long (the last
new game I got was I think,The Lion King back in 2001 as a Christmas present)

The game is a collection of old NES Mario games with redone
SNES-era grapics,which are:

Super Mario Bros. (1985)--I had this game on my old NES,but
sadly the stupid thing is busted (I think). Plus,to add insult
to injury,I lost the cartrige,so I was glad this one was on
here.

Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels (Not released in the USA)--This
game is like the first but harder.

Super Mario Bros.2 (1988)--This game is my friend's fave on this
set,but I think it's too hard.

Super Mario Bros.3 (1990)--OMIGOSH I LOOOVE THIS ONE This one
is the best one on the set.I love to be the Racoon Mario!

The verison of this game that I got has, for some reason no one
bothers to explain,Super Mario World included on it. This, for
me at least, was pointless (I already owned that game).

Give this one a try.You will love it.

Super Mario All-Stars has 4 great NES Mario games, along with enhanced graphics, sound, music, and an added save feature! The games are:

Super Mario Bros: The one that started it all! This game is just plain fun!

Super Mario Bros. 2: Japan didn't want to release the real Mario 2 in America, because they thought it would be too hard for us! So they put a Japan-only game named, "Doki Doki Panic" and added Mario characters to it. Although it's the oddball of the series, it is pretty fun!

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels: The REAL SMB2. This game is HARD! It's like SMB with some neat twists! You can be Mario or Luigi. Mario has medicore jumping power, but great traction. Luigi has great jumping power, but mediocre traction.

Super Mario Bros 3: Although not my favorite Mario game, [I prefer SMW] this is the best of the four. Mario has some cool powerups, tons of levels, and new challanges!

Got an SNES? Then get this!

Any Mario or NES fan should buy this now!

This is a huge blast from the past. I played the three mario games on the NES before we got rid of it. Let me say that it was much worth the time. At first I didn't think that it would be a good idea. I mean, I like the backgrounds and all, but one side of me was almost hoping that it would be released as the complete original. I don't know why. Anyway, we finally get to play the "Lost Levels" from a long time ago. If you own Super Mario Brothers Deluxe on Gameboy, then you're not missing much from this. I still think the best Super Mario Bros. game, is number Super Mario Brothers 2. That was part of the reason I went out and got this. These are four of the greatest games ever made, and it would be a shame to miss them.

Mario-heads unite: One Stop Shop for the Ultimate Old-School Mario Fix!!!

SUPER MARIO ALLSTARS, an anthology of the first four NES Mario games for the SNES, was one of the most popular titles Nintendo released during the early 1990s. Since these titles were such staples of the NES, it was only logical to port them to SNES with a graphical overhaul, options to save, and (for America anyway) the release of a long lost game called LOST LEVELS. Also, depending on what version of this you get, in later releases they also packaged SUPER MARIO WORLD as well, making this a one stop shop for those looking for a Mario fix. These are the games.

SUPER MARIO BROTHERS: The single most popular game ever released, and also the most widely circulated. Largerly responsible for saving the video game industry after the historic crash of 1984, it is now easy to forget (especially for younger gamers) how revolutionary this title was when it first came out. 8 expansive worlds, bright colourful graphics, and much more complex than the usual one-screen games that dominated in the late 1970s and early 1980s. A real technological breakthrough and a historic landmark in gaming, even all these years later it holds up with pixel-perfect graphics and rock-solid game play. Don't miss this one.

THE LOST LEVELS: The original followup to SMB; released only in Japan. Deemed to hard for the American markets, another game was given Mario sprites and released in America as SMB2. This title, however, is notoriously difficult. I always think of it as the second quest, like in the original Zelda. If you go through all 8 levels without warping, you get to a secret world, 9, before going on to worlds A-D. When ALLSTARS first came out, Nintendo Power had a promotion that if you got to world 9 they would send you a Mario badge. Ah, the memories! Still, if you really want to test your metal against incredibly difficult old-school Mario levels, this game isn't to be missed. Lots of fun all around. Some levels, however, make you think Shigeru Miyamoto has a sadistic streak in him. Closet America ever got to the original 8-bit release was Super Mario Deluxe for the Game Boy Colour, though that was lacking the last five bonus levels and did not have all the same graphics as the original SMB2 did.

SUPER MARIO BROTHERS 2: Also known as SUPER MARIO BROTHERS USA in Japan (released in 1992 there and 1988 stateside), this is the odd man out in the series. The game play couldn't be more different than the original SMB if they tried. The story is Nintendo didn't think they'd be able to sell SMB2 to the American markets, so they took a pre-existing game, DOKI DOKI PANIC, changed a few sprites around, and put the Nintendo seal of approval on it. (For those of you who have access to the original game booklet that was released with SMB2, the picture of Phanto, the guardian of the keys, is the original sprite from DOKI DOKI, and looks different than what appeared in the Mario version. When I was little I always wondered why the sprite looked different from the game). DOKI DOKI's story is a family's pet monkey disppeared into a book and had to be rescued. To see the ending, you had to complete the game four times, once with each major character. The Internet has a wealth of info on the differences between the Mario version and the original version. What I always remember about this game is how fast it sold when it came out in 1988. As far as game play goes, there are four selectable characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Mario, naturally, is the most well-rounded, though my brother and I always used Luigi for his jumping skills. The levels are very odd, contributing to the overall dream-like, bizarre quality that is so inhertant in this game. A huge smash when it was released, but easily the strangest Mario game in the canon. Little surprise when you find out it's rather dubious origins (I was in shock when I found out about in the late 1990s). Ironically enough, Miyamoto purportedly had much more to deal with the development of this game than the Japanese SMB2.

SUPER MARIO BROTHERS 3: The best selling game ever released independently*, SMB3 greatly expanded the Mario universe with the introduction of several new enemies, Bowser's children (who was the mother, I wonder? Godzilla's ex?), and introduced cool new suites for Mario to wear. The game play was more expansive than ever, with cool new secrets to discover and eight tremendously large worlds. This game laid the foundation for so many other plat-formers, especially SUPER MARIO WORLD. While SMB2 felt like a weird detour, SMB3 took Mario back to the atmosphere or the original game, taking it a thousand different directions, and coming up with one of the best games ever developed. Although there were a few tweaks for the ALL STARS release (some levels got a few more coins to make it easy to access game secrets), like the other games this is tremdously faithful to the original NES release. That alone makes this essential playing.

SUPER MARIO WORLD: The later versions of this compilation included SUPER MARIO WORLD as well. Taking the foundation laid down in SMB3, Nintendo created this flagship title for their pristine new 16 bit console. Very much of a piece wtih SMB3, although eliminating all the cool suits of its predecessor, Nintendo turned in a stellar, expertly designed platformer that once again set the standards for video games everywhere. Just like SMB3, and the other titles less so, the game eases you into its mechanics with such ease and percision that, just like the Amazon editorial says, you'll be flying and tossing fireballs and riding around in no time. Essential gaming. Plus you get to ride the dinosaur Yoshi and make him eat enemies! How cool is that?

Overall, one of the best carts you can have for the SNES. The only real drawback is the original versions of the NES games weren't included. What would have been great is after you finished each game you unlocked the original 8-bit version. But that (minor) complaint aside, if you want to know what made early gaming so great, or want to relive a bit of nostalgia from your childhood, you can't go wrong with this title.

There is really no better game for Snes then Super Mario All Stars. I mean this game has 4 great mini games in one. For one thing the makers completely re-did the original Super Mario Bros. and updated it's graphics. If you enjoy Snes then this is a must have!

Sure the SNES is very obsolete, but that doesn't keep its games form being great. Super Mario All-Stars will blow you away-that is if you can find it anywhere. This game includes 4 awesome games...Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 2, Super Mario Brothers 3, and the Lost Levels.

Super Mario Brothers is the same as the debut Mario game on the Nintendo. It is the easiest of the Mario games, but is certainly still fun.

Super Mario Brothers 2 is a lot more fun and enhanced. You chose to be Mario, Luigi, Toad or Princess. Unlike the other Mario games the enemies aren't koopa's and you don't pick get mushrooms, feathers, or fireballs, but instead you get cherries and hearts to get your health back. You still can get mushrooms, but you need to jump on them and pick them up.

Super Mario 3 is even more advances and is personally my favorite of the Mario games. You play as Mario and Luigi in a really cool game. The only problem is after you lose a life they send you all the way back to the beginning of the world then you have to walk all the way back using just one path. The game is a lot better in a few ways. There are several bosses on pirate ships and many cool bonuses like playing card games or memory to get frog suits, feathers, beaver furs and more. You also open up treasure chests a few times every level to get the stuff you need.

The Lost Levels are extra levels that were never included in any Mario game. This is the hardest game on Super Mario All-Stars, but will prove to be a fun challenge.

A great rendition of the original classics

This is easily one of the best games for the SNES. While those of us who still play our NES more often than any other system may find the new graphics and scrolling backgrounds confusing, they are definitely a sight to behold. The best reason to buy this game is for the "lost levels" which is the REAL Mario 2. We Americans couldn't handle it on the old grey box so they sent us a remake of another game (Doki Doki Panic) and passed it off as our beloved Mario 2. Reccomendation: Strong Buy.

Valuable classic mario games

I remembered I recieved my first NES system and started renting and playing these games separately (except lost levels) and I was hooked and loved them all. Now you would have 4 classic mario games on one game cartridge including the lost levels which is only sold in japan with even better rare graphics. Anyone who ownes a super nes pick up this game now before the price goes up.

Four games, one great cart...

-Mario All Stars is a lot of fun period. This SNES cart has Mario 1, Mario 2: The Lost Levels (released only in Japan), Mario 2, the U.S. version and Mario 3. All four games have updated graphics, much crisper than the original and there's also a save feature that allows you to save up to four files on each game.

-Mario 1: Basically the same, like I said much better graphics, the game gets pretty hard near the end, but it's great to play especially for that nostalgic feeling your bound to get if you played this on the NES. Fun game overall.

-Mario 2-The Lost Levels: I'll be honest I've never sat down long enough to beat this one. It is pretty hard at times, there are even poison mushrooms that take away your powered up form and a lot more enemies seem to be put on the screen than the previous Mario. Decent game for what I've played of it.

-Mario 2-The U.S. version: A weird but good one here. Some people don't like this one, because it departed from the traditional mario gameplay, but I liked the changes. This one has Mario, Luigi, Toad and Toadstool trying to thrwart Wart (sorry couldn't help that one) a toad or frog whatever you want to call him, that has evil intentions for the world. The basic premise is you pick one of the characters before each level and throw vegetables at enemies to kill them. I liked how each character had different strengths and weaknesses, Mario is average across the board, Luigi can jump really high but is average otherwise, Toad can pull and throw vegetables really fast, but can't jump very high and Toadstool can float briefly, but has poor pulling power. It's understanbly different from other Mario games, but I find it to be a lot of fun.

-Mario 3: The best of the games in my opinion. It features eight worlds that Mario must conquer in order to rescue the Princess. There are many powerups you can get, besides the mushroom, flower and star, there's the leaf-allows you to fly for a brief period after you build up some speed, the power wing-makes it so you can fly through the whole level as long as you don't get hit. Others include, the Racoon Suit-you can fly plus turn into a statue briefly to avoid getting hit, the Hammer Bros. suit-which allows you to throw hammers and shield yourself from attacks. There are others, but those are the best ones, I also loved how you can save items you collect and use them when you need them. I loved the world map feature and also liked how the worlds got progressively harder as the game advances, worlds seven and eight are the hardest to beat in my opinion.

Pros:

-The graphics are great improved, much crisper and richer in color.

-The gameplay is still great.

-The save feature is a major plus.

-Everything great about the original games were kept the same.

Cons:

-Nothing really.

This is well worth the purchase, you get four games in one cart, plus there all classic Mario games so how can you go wrong with that.
