excellent Mario game

To be completely honest, Mario games NEVER get boring. I have been playing them for over 15 years and still love every single one of them.

This collection features 3 classic NES Mario games with updated colorful graphics, along with a challenging bonus game called Lost Levels.

The only bad thing I've noticed is how the music has been remixed and not quite as memorable as before. Oh well, the actual games are pretty much the same, though.

I've played all these Mario games a hundred times for such a long time, and wouldn't mind playing them some more. Quality games stay fresh forever.

If you don't have this game in your Super NES library, well, don't worry, because the upcoming Wii console promises to be capable of downloading all the classic Mario games for your Wii console for a small fee. GREAT deal.

4 Great Games, All In One

I was always a fan of the 3 original Super Mario Bros games for the Nintendo and with All Stars, you get all three on one cartridge plus one more: The Lost Levels, the sequel to the original game which was released in Japan, originally.

It seems that there are some updated graphics and while that does not bother me, I can understand how those who crave genuineness might be disappointed. Also, while there were certain glitches and tricks that players were able to utilize in the original games - World 0 In SMB1 - they have been eradicated from this version.

One of the great aspects of this game was the introduction of The Lost Levels, a new game for the already-fan of Mario. This game was originally not released worldwide because it was thought to be too difficult and, indeed, some people will find this game more difficult than the original Nintento games (hint: Luigi jumps further and becomes necessary to pass some levels) but it has many of the same elements we came to know and love of Mario, and a few more!

This game allows me to play the games I love and an extra on my SNES (I currently do not know where my NES is) and is certainly a fun blast from the past.

This game is GREAT. by far the best mario game.
you'll never get sick of it because if you get sick of 1 of the mario games on the cartrige, you can play one of the other four.
and this has updated graphics since the origanal NES releases.
nothing has changed from the NES release either, everything seems to be the same.
so no questions asked, this is a clever way for nintendo to make money, and know there are kids out there who will enjoy it.

Woah! This Rules!

This is the best game ever! I don't like 3D games that much, I am mostly in the 2D platform era, cuz I was born into that! I wish this had the 8-bit gfx from the classic Mario games, that would be nice. It is pretty much like the classic SMB1 (I have it on my gb) I love Mario games, it is a "Legacy in Games" (I made that up.) youll most likely enjoy this, especialy if you're a grown-up that happens to have a SNES and misses the Mario games. This text is actually referring to Super Mario Allstars+ Super Mario World.

3 classic NES games in 1 SNES game

I loved this game. Mario Bros 1 is awesome. Even it was released in 1985. Mario Bros 2 and 3 are not quite as good but they are still brilliant. Mario Bros 1 is the game I need to talk about.
Graphics: 1/10. Well. absolutely rubbish graphics doesn't stop the excellent gameplay. Gameplay: 10/10. Although it's a little short that doesn't stop. Sound: 6/10. Well. the sound is very weak and is not good. But still. anyone without a SNES should buy a GBA. Although you really should not buy a NES if you have a SNES because it has a lot of games the NES has.

Super Mario 1, 2, 3 and Lost Levels on one cartridge!!!!

This was the game to get on the SNES for Mario Fans. I do preffer Mario World over this, but this classic revived the previous 3 versions of the SMB's on the NES, bringing them new and fresh to the SNES.

The graphics are not the same as the NES versions. There was all new graphics and a few options, you could save from place to place and it wa smuch easier then the old NES versions. It worked very nicely. And the lost levels is actualy the original Maro Bros. 2 Game that WAS released in Japan with that title, but Nintendo USA decided to go with a different layout for there part 2. But it's here now and called the lost levels.

The original Mario bros 1, 2 & 3 and the SNES MW4 have all been revived on the Gameboy Advance with the original style of graphics, they are new and improved. I'd like to see all these versions put onto the one release of a system one day. You cant beat the classic Mario Bros games 1 to 4 and Mario Karts!!!

A great classic combination-THE BEST OF MARIO!

This awesome game pak includes all 3 Marios (and a bonus, "Lost Levels".) remade in a more better version for the SNES. For one thing, the sound isn't choppy and DOES NOT skip compared to that of the original. Also, the cel images have been improved as well, giving the chracters a realistic cartoonish look. (especially w/ "Super Mario World", which would come later.)

The following games are:

SUPER MARIO BROS./LOST LEVELS **** (4-stars) (YEAR OF RELEASE: 1985)

This is the one that started it all! You play as either Mario or Luigi or 2-player mode! I'd have to say that it's the hardest and I do mean THE hardest of all Marios I've played! The objective is to reach the goal at the end of the stage before time runs out. (the enemies and other obstacles added in are an excellent challenge!) Finally, at the end of each world, you must defeat the big guy himself, KING KOOPA!!!

SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 ***(3-stars) (YEAR OF RELEASE: 1988)

Mario has a dream... A dream about a mysterious parallel world in danger from the evil toad, Wart. Wart has kidnapped all the guardians(a.k.a. "subcons") of that dimension obviously in hopes of ruling both the dream and real worlds. Now, Mario and friends must travel to this magical land, defeat Wart, and save them. This one is a VERY good Mario game, but not as good as the original! You have the freedom to actually pick stuff up, solve puzzles, and there is NO time limit!(which is nice for a change.)

SUPER MARIO BROS. 3 ****(4-stars) (YEAR OF RELEASE: 1990)

OH YEAH! This is where the series started coming together with all the bosses, powerups, and fun mini-games. (which was probably the starting point for the upcoming Mario 4 on SNES.) I'd have to say that this one is my 2nd favorite next to SMW!!! I like the cool new abilities such as the racoons tail which allows you to fly. The hardest for me was Pipe world!

SUPER MARIO BROS. 4/SUPER MARIO WORLD *****(5-stars)
(YEAR OF RELEASE: 1992)

I love this one the BEST!!! You play as either Mario and Luigi with the help of an all-new companion; YOSHI, the dinosaur! The plot is where Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach(AGAIN!) and you must save her! There are MORE than 8-worlds, including a SPECIAL WORLD!!!(For more of the advanced players looking for a good challenge.) YOU CAN ALSO DO MORE THAN BEFORE UNLIKE MARIO 3!!!

OVERALL: I give the entire series 10/10. BUY IT!!! You WON'T be disapointed! A treat for all Mario fans!! ^_^

p.s. I also reccomend "Super Mario 64" & "Sunshine"!

Aesthetically Upgraded, But No Other Improvements

It's fun to see your favorite games, movies, shows or books "updated" (sometimes even if it's done badly) because it hints at their versatility and lasting appeal. The Super Mario Brothers series certainly doesn't need something like Super Mario All-Stars to prove its lasting appeal, but seeing Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 2, and Super Mario Brothers 3 together on one game cartridge with the visual and audio embellishments of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System is very nice for fans of these classic games. The addition of Super Mario Brothers: The Lost Levels is a welcome treat to American audiences, as they've likely never seen this challenging Japanese release in the style of the original Super Mario Brothers.

For the other three games, the gameplay, story, and characters' abilities are exactly the same as in the now-familiar orignals with only the addition of (as I mentioned) improved graphics and sound. To be honest, however, I wish there HAD been more changes in the games. When this game came out, Super Mario World had already been released and the purpose of All-Stars was, presumably, to allow fans of these previous games to experience them on the (then) new SNES system and to provide a somewhat more consistent Super Mario Brothers experience.

The challenge of "updating" the games seems to have been handled in a particularly uninspired way, however. Aside from making the graphics look more "bubbly" and the music more appealing, there's no real difference from the originals. The appearance of all the characters and settings remain inconsistent from game to game as well as vastly inconsistent with the (then) newly released Super Mario World. Why not update all the characters, buildings, and backdrops (and perhaps some of the character abilities) to how they appear in Super Mario World? Although there certainly isn't any real problem with simply making things prettier (aside from leaving somewhat vast, unexplained gaps in the Mario Brothers story), wouldn't it have been cool to REALLY see how the gameplay would have changed had those original games been CREATED for the SNES?

At any rate, Super Mario All-Stars is STILL a great game, even if only for its aesthetic enhancements to these already-entertaining games, the addition of those challenging "lost levels" and the fact that you won't have to haul out your old NES system to play them.

Four in one means four times the fun!

[Graphics don't make the game. Anyone who complains that the "graphics should have been better" should be tortured.]

With the Super NES becoming every kid's favorite Nintendo system in the early 90s, it was only a matter of time until Nintendo decided to "remaster" their beloved Mario series and place them onto one cartridge. This not only helped propel the Super NES's popularity, but it served to remind the next generation of gamers of where Mario first came from! Read on:

THE GOOD
This cartridge contains four Mario games: The original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 (my personal favorite), and Lost Levels. Lost Levels is actually the "true" Mario 2, but they never brought to the U.S. in a cartridge; instead, the Mario 2 that we came to know was originally an arabian-knights-adventure-type game (I'll get back to you on the original game title) that was refitted to fit Mario's universe. With that said, I'm glad it's here. The graphics and music have been greatly enhanced, but the nostalgia factor of the games are still there (the most important aspect of the game, in my opinion). This also allows you to save your games and warp to a different world as well. I don't see this as a huge improvement, but it's a nice addition.

THE BAD
The ONLY bad thing I can say about this game (and thus, keeping the full 5 stars this game richly deserves) is that some of the sounds have been dumbed down a bit (an example: instead of the BA BOOM BOOM sounds the cannons make in Mario 3, they make a more "popish" sound). Other than that, a perfect game.

OVERALL
What can I say? These games are classic and vintage Mario. All four games are terrific. They also manage to keep the difficulty levels, so these games are certainly a challenge. I'm not Nintendo biased, but I love this game. These are the games we old school gamers grew up on. I hope these games live on through infinity.

I orginally received MARIO ALL-STARS with a SNES I purchased. My son took the game with him when he moved... I purchased it again to have in my stash of video game gems. The only drawback on this edition -it does not include MARIO WORLD as the edition that was bundled with the NES system.

At any rate -the game is awesome!! As all Mario fans can attest to.

It's worth all the stars and mushrooms in the world!
