5 Rating: 5, Useful: 7 / 10

Those who played the original Dungeon Siege, will greatly be impressed by this sequel. It has more of what made the original great and it has also been imroved and enhanced considirably with lot of good stuff.

new:
-you can choose from more than one race; human, dryad, elf, half giant.
-lot of pets; packmule, scorpion, ice golem, fire golem, pet dragon, etc.
-pets evolve and become better and grow up.
-enhanced graphics. way better looking than dungeon siege. although the player characters could use a little more work, but still look great.
-secondary skills with levels for each character class.
-lots of new veriety of animals.
-if your video card is 64mb you can play it at good speed with high resolution and full detail. no slowdowns.
-high replayibility.
-cool soundtrack.
-amazing AI.
-exceptional visuals.
-highly adictive.

An RPG that FPS gamers will like

It's VERY rare that I will give a game a 5/5. I also don't have any love lost for Microsoft and Co. But I've got to admit, they make a heck of a game. I haven't played the multi-player, so I'll stick to the single player.

I usually prefer playing first person shooters (FPS). However, this game gives you the satisfaction of shooting up (or more accurately hacking or zapping) a lot of bad guys while following an EPIC story over three chapters. There is plenty of play and replay time. The only thing that becomes tricky is trying to keep track of the various characters' names you're helping. You have around 10 major tasks to complete in each chapter and another 10 or so secondary tasks you can take on if you choose to earn more money or other items. Sometimes items you win in one will help you in another. There are a few puzzles, but they're not difficult.

You also get to design your character by sex and species: elf, half-giant, human, etc. Changing armor/weapons also changes their appearance. You can be a fighter, wizard or archer. It depends on which skills you use as to what you become. Be careful not to spread out your skills too much or you may become master of nothing. You can also hire on a "pet" which can be more than a just the donkey of the first Dungeon Siege. A pet can be a scorpion, ice wolf or other creature with their own skill set. The pet grows in skills depending on what you give it to carry. It also helps to attack your enemy.

The only stop in action is having to sell off items you've collected, buying new item and spending skill points. That's the RPG part of the game.

I've got to say that on the single-player, it's virtually impossible to play without using cheat codes unless you like getting killed off a lot. There is one save slot for your particular character. And while you can save at any point in the game, if killed, you cannot simply exit the game without saving and start over. The only recourse is to pay the necromancer at the teleporter 25% of your gold to get your character and/or team back. Then you have to go back to where you were to get back your previous equipment. The problem with the single player is you can only control one character at a time so it's easy for one of the others to run over and get themselves killed in hand to hand combat when as a team you might chose to fight them from a distance with magic or arrows.

I know there are some purists who refuse to use cheat codes, but personally, I want to get through the story, not slog it out over and over again.

My only cravat is some of the cheat codes added in by the programmers are blatantly political which I don't appreciate no matter which side you're on. To them I say: Just shut up and program!

The new age....

Or so goes the storyline to this great game.
While this game follows the same basic play pattern as the original, there are many new features that require some getting used to. In particular assigning skill points which accumulate over time, allowing your characters certain "powers" such as the brutal attack and iceshards.
In the original Dungeon Siege the name Azunai keeps popping up, but we're never actually told who Azunai is, or was. In this new game it is revealed that Azunai was a great warrior who fought against the oppression of the dark Lord Zaramoth, but when Zaramoth's sword came in contact with Azunai's shield the world split open releasing the river of souls of people long dead, this marked the end of the first age, and now the second age has began, and now Lord Valdis wishes to recover the sword of Zaramoth for his own evil purpose.
Choosing your initial character from one of four races (Humans, Elves, Half Giants or Dryads) you began your quest, which overall leads to recovering the shield of Azunai, with many other tasks to be completed along the way.
However recovering the shield is not quite as straight-forward as it sounds, for when the shield was struck it shattered into four pieces, which were then scattered and hidden, and even after finding all pieces the shield must be reforged and only the Agallans who created the shield know how.

As with must things Dungeon Siege 2 has its pros and cons compared to Dungeon Siege. Among the pros is the fact that there is an arrow to on the map to show you which way to go, plus a golden star that shows your destination; there are also short cuts that can be taken by using teleporters; if you choose to disband a character you can invite them back later by finding them at one of the town inns; and even when your party dies you simply return to the nearest town where you can be resurrected, whereas in the original once your party dies, the game ends.
The cons include the fact the you can't move around on the map as you could in the first game, the spells are much less diverse than before and generally require higher skill levels to cast; you can not have as many people in your party as before; and if you save your game and load it later you have to start again at the last town you visited, and need to make up for lost ground.

With its additional features Dungeon Siege 2 might take a bit longer to get used to, but once you have this down, the game is...well Excellent.

Solid Title

Being a huge roguelike fan, cut and dried hack and slash is what I'm all about. Killing hundreds of enemies with overpowered spells and weaponry is what gaming is all about. Dungeon Siege 2 doesn't fail to provide, and provide in a gorgeous setting with nice modeling and animations. While the game does have flaws, it is far superior to Diablo 2, which it is compared to repeatedly. Far more gear choices, far more item powers and status effects. Much better designed world, better laid character developement and design(all assassins are women? Really?). All in all, an amazing game, and eyecandy to boot. For some truely spectacular screenshots, run off with 4 mages into the fray, hit pause, and pan around the action. Spells are fully rendered in 3d space, arrows captured in mid flight, or burrowed into the hide of a foe. The sound effects are rather straight forward, and the voice acting is lacking, but hey, its a hack and slash, not an epic RPG. I got precisely what I paid for, mindless fun and gobs of violence. If you don't mind a rather cliche'd storyline, and rather linear gameplay, and have a fondness for disgustingly overpowered heroes battling hoardes of near mindless moblings, grab this game. If not, grab it anyway.

Dungeon Siege Redux

If you liked Dungeon Siege, you'll like this too. I think they played it fairly safe in this sequel, expanding the geography and storyline but not changing the gameplay much. There are still situations, even on the easiest setting where you can get killed multiple times getting past an opponent but on the whole it is not oppressively difficult. There are more options for character development than before and a number of optional quests in addition to the primary plot requirements. I like action RPGs with a few mild puzzles so this is a natural for me.
Word of advice -- heed the warning about not changing weapon types too much as what you use determines how you develop and a strong focus on a specialty makes for a strong character.

Dungeon seige 2 the good/the bad

The Good: If you loved the first you'll absolutely adore the second. I recomend going through the campaign with friends though. It would probably be boring doing just single player. Better graphics, great world, and a semi-interesting plot make for a great game. Even if you are new to the series I would get it if I were you. Great combo of the original game and more like Diablo II. <3. Awesome Boss fights too.

The Bad: Some horrible bugs. If you aren't a hack and slash fan don't get it. It's basically like Diablo II except simpler and with repeating story lines for each town. Story is pretty much like any other fantasy, with only a slight twist here and there. If you like mmorgs go buy guild wars not this game.

Even though there seems to be alot of bad to this game its never the less addictive till the end, where you still thirst for more. If you love all the rest of the games like this then get it! It'll fit VERY well on your gaming bookshelf!

DS2 stands for Disappointment Siege 2

I was so looking forward to this game, so after years of development it finally got published. I bought it, played it, and.... I asked myself what the developers have been doing all this time. Did anyone even play the original Dungeon Siege? If you are a fan of the original Dungeon Siege, because you liked the fast pace, simplicity, and quick action, this game won't really give you the same feeling. Yeah sure you can hack some monsters, grab treasures and spells, but it is all so similar to other games now.

So if you want something like the other games, sure go ahead and buy it, but if you were looking for a Dungeon Siege 1 follow-up, you're better off waiting for some other game... Maybe Worldcraft is better. lol :-)

P.S. The story sucks !

3D Diablo is addictive

I am hooked on this game. It is very similar to diablo but in 3D. If you like dungeon exploration with monsters that can sneak up behind you etc., you are going to love this game. I think it is much better than the original dungeon siege series. You can enchant weapons, armor etc. with magical powers. I really love this game and you will need disipline to stop playing it at times. Play it hard for a couple of hours (takes time to get into it) and you will be hooked for sure.

Dungeon Siege 1 was the game that got me started with RPGs, and I have been a fan of DS ever since. As such, I enjoyed DS2 as well. However, there are some aspects of this game that I didn't like too much. The save game system is odd. You can save everywhere, but it only saves what you have and what you have accomplished, not where you are. So when you re-load, you are always back to one of the 3 towns. This actually works better than one would think as it moves the game away from constant quick-saves and quick-loads. However, it does NOT work well whenever you die near a boss-battle, since you basically have to run back naked to get your gear. Not fun at all.

Another aspect I didn't like is the map. DS1 had a great map, while in DS2, I constantly was lost. Back-tracking to complete secondary quests is a major PITA for that reason. Makes me wonder what they were thinking.

Similarly, I didn't like the quest-log interface. I do not like seeing ahead of time how many quests there are. Neither do I appreciate the whole setup of the non-resizable log-screen that is just plain hard to read.

One of the oddest things is the difficulty level. You can only play at lowest difficulty until you played through the whole game. Once you are all the way through, you can re-play the game at a higher difficulty level and with more party members. Hu?!? WTF?

Oh, and btw: Your party now has a maximum of 3 members plus a pet that acts as a limited additional member. I liked the larger parties from DS1 MUCH better. Also, it was much easier to manage your party. I really do not appreciate this kind of dumbed-down gameplay.

Nevertheless, I had fun with this game. If you liked DS1 a lot, then you will still have fun with DS2.

Excellent

If you are a fan of the RPG genre- Dungeon Siege II is a very good ride.

I very much DISliked DS I. It was dull to me. This sequel however shows what a developer can produce when it listens to it's customers- I feel it's improved in every way.

As to the "Fatal Flaw" review- come on now. Yea it's a bit annoying, BUT everything respawns and it's lots XP. And the gentlemen who spent thirty WHOLE minutes playing the game before his review? Puh-leez. Don't waste peoples time with nonsense. it's a review of the game, not the first thirty minutes of the game.

Development of the characters is good, the story is good, a few surprises(The mime was terrific, you never know when the damn thing will show up) the colour palatte was great, the game play was linear, but didn't feel that way.

It's a very good game and I will be buying the expansion for sure!

Enjoy
