Not impressed

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 8 / 20

I'm not impressed with DS2. Perhaps that could be because I haven't played the first one, but I doubt it. I haven't played longer than 30 mins, but what I did play I found boring, tedious and really unpleasant upon the eye. The storyline and script is horribly canned and the visuals are far from stellar - you would think this game was a couple years old. Trying to drop into it, I found the controls very unfamiliar but, as it is with most games, I can see that once you get the format familiarized that should no longer be a problem. The game may get better with time, if so, I will edit my review.

This is certainly a game I would not recommend you spend your money on until you find it in the bargain bins.

Oddly addictive.

Having never played the first, this installment seems quite worth the time. Firstly, I'd like to note I ended up with this game from lack of available INTERESTING looking titles. Though I can't say I was disappointed...

At first the game seemed slow, actually my initial opinion was "IT SUCKS!" However, once you get your footing, it has a similar feel to old time RPGS, only without the Japanese love story entwined.

The gameplay is a bit ... mindless to a degree. Your main strategy is isolate and oblitherate your foes, as they'll charge at your party of 3, in HORDES!

However, the character building draws you in, as you're able to customize their path whether through thrown weapons, swords, magics and so on. Additionally you can make use of cute little fuzzy pets, that gnaw and gnarl on command.

All in all a great combination, creating a melting pot of features, upgrades, side missions, storylines and excitement! Most importantly, you feel drawn into the game and one with your character... A giant plus in my book. =)

DSII goes on & on & on.

Here's a tip for those who can't get the game to play or stop freezing. 1)Update ALL your drivers. Ex: If you have a Sony, go to Sony's homepage & download them. 2)Find out what graphic card you have via properties menu & update it's software. Ex: If you have an Intel card, go to Intel & download it. 3)Turn off your firewall before playing, that's a must, or it will freeze & you'll only be able to escape via rebooting.

Unacceptable video problems

If you have an Nvidia card of the 6000 or 7000 series, don't even bother purchasing this game. That's right - if you have a cutting edge video card, you can't play this. Why? Apparently the programmers found it too difficult to code forward compatibility into their game, so it will not recognize any newer cards and will try to render the game with onboard video, which produces predictably awful results, even on my rather beefy new gaming system. What's truly insulting is that this problem has not even been addressed in an official patch this long after the game's release. Will be returning.

Second Dungeon Siege Continues Good Start

Excellent game mechanics, combat, magic, and quest schemes. Limitation on party size during first pass through the game (Player plus no more than 3 NPC's, vs. the 5 NPC party members allowed during the THIRD runthrough) is frustrating, as is the savegame approach which requires you to get back to a city before closing the game down (unless you want to hike back to wherever you were...you always start a game session in the nearest city).

Definite Upgrade from Dungeon Siege 1

Dungeon Siege II is an awesome game. More suprisingly I find it odd that Microsoft is actually coming out with better games for the PC. Dungeon Siege II is a great RPG game. I played World of Warcraft before I got the game and found many of the similarities striking but all the more fun. The new classes of armor really give the game some replay value. However, you may not get the whole set on the first run. I find one of the games kinks is that you can barely armor your characters up before moving on to the next stage (Mercenary, Veteran, and Elite). The low end armor sets become worthless in a hurry. You also continue to get the low end sets when you are 40+. I think that it is a big flaw that diminished the fun factor in my replay. On the other hand, graphics are very sharp, game play might be hack and slash but it makes for a good time with special powers. They really made a great amount of improvement in this game and I commend Microsoft along with their affiliates for making and upgrading an addicting game. There might be little kinks and bugs, but overall game is good.

Multiplayer is great fun in this game. My only complaint is that I've seen some of the movie sequences about 100 times and I wish we could fast forward them. Other than that, its a decently solid online experience. We did have trouble with wireless laptops so make sure to use cables.

Bottom Line: You don't need to like RPGs to have fun hacking away at some enemies in your spare time. Good game to give a try.

A Perfect Follow up!!

DS 2 plays almost exactly like DS 1 with slightly better graphics, an upgraded skill grid, new weapons, armor and spells. I think they did a great job on this game. They kept the same feel as the first game. The worlds are very submersive, unique and and highly attractive.

Runs perfect on my 6800gt with all graphics set to high and it aint software mode either.

Loads Of Fun

Definately high on the fun factor. Lots of stuff to find to buy and sell. Lots of places to explore. Enemies keep coming so it's good to complete your quests efficiently. Graphics are great and much better than before but you may need a better video card than before. Game installs quickly and transition between areas are seemless. You can now teleport back to town from anywhere (finally!). It seems you can customize your character more than before. Be sure each of your characters are specialized (nature magic, combat magic, melee, archer, etc.) to have a powerful party. The nature magic member can heal your other members while they fight.

Does not live up to the first

I had some pretty high hopes for this game when I picked it up. It disapointed me on almost all levels. The character customization is as bland and pointless as the first. You have to go into options to enable your character to auto defend or attack, and that feature is pretty useless for any melee character.

I have had every save game I have attempted to load come up with horrible problems. Half the time, the game no longer recognized I had any save games, and other times, it maintained my characters stats, levels, and items, but removed any of the quests I had completed.

The most recent patch (2.2) has removed a few of the bugs, but this game is barely out of BETA stage, and should have had a LOT less problems than it does. I loved DS, and feel horribly let down by this sequal.

The Full Explaination

Ignore all the critics. Some people just don't like this type of game. The review should fully explain it for you.

System Requirements:
I think any computer could run DS2. Only one catch: You must have WindowsXP. Ive tried it with a Windows2K computer and guess what. It DOESNT work. Other than that it should work on any standard computer. If you came here just to know if the game crashes or not, well you can stop reading now, 'cuz i just explained.

Game Style:
If you liked DS1, or enjoyed DS2 demo, you will love the full version of DS2. When you pick up armor, its all animated, and doesnt look cheap like in Quake 1/2/3/4 the weapons just float there and you walk past and they disapear. Thats unrealistic. In DS2 the graphics are superb. If you have a slower computer tho you might have to lower it.

Difficulties:
If the game or demo lags on you, go to options, video or something like that, and set the options down a few notches.

BIG TIP:
Before buying the game, GET THE DEMO. If you like the demo, you WILL like the real game.

I hope that cleared you. . .
