Graphics are unbelievable

After playing the first one which kept me up late at night I really didn't expect the graphics to be much different. Boy was I wrong. It more up to date with the current games. There was a review writen earlier saying the Nvidia series 6000 does not work. I have the Nvidia 6800 and it works great with this game. I also like the fact that after the tutoring in the beginning the game does not start with you being a expert and able to freely kick butt while going thru the quest. You have to be careful on how well you build your hero. Not as good as Neverwinter Nights, but a good sub.

Nice game!

Just finished playing through this game, it was great. I gave up on DS1 halfway through it, because it just got sort of boring / tedious. DS2 seems to have better scenery and variability, so I played it all the way through without getting bored... :) Although I am not inspired to play another round at a higher level (what's the use, I saw everything already...?) I do recommend it... good difficulty level of puzzles, too. Challenging but no so much that you have to cheat ;)

Also, it ran perfectly well on my machine - 3 Ghz, 2 Gigs of RAM, and an NVidia GeForce 7800 GS. (An AGP, admittedly, but it's the best AGP there is!) I have no idea why those reviewers had problems running this game with their high-end cards. Maybe it runs worse on a PCI-E card? I can't imagine why that would make a difference, though. On my machine, it stuttered once or twice during a couple of those HUGE battle scenes with dozens of monsters, but 99% of the time it ran smooth as melted butter! No bugs, crisp beautiful graphics.. a pleasure to look at!

Advice: Download the Demo before you buy.

A lot of the other comments say "if you liked DS, you'll like DS II." Well, I liked DS, and I think DS II is a monstrosity. Gone are the clean interface, simplicity, intuitive play, and beautiful art of the original. The DS II interface is cluttered and baroque. It hurts my eyes just to look at it. The characters are astoundingly ugly, the art is too busy, and there are layers and layers of skills, abilities, chants, etc. that contribute nothing except needless confusion. Download the free demo before you make this purchase. If you liked DS because it was beautiful to look at, like I did, you will be turned off of this game before you get past the character selection screen.

Ugh. I've played for an hour or two and have gotten just past the Dryad village. I doubt I'll play any more (well, I lie. I got the bloody 4-disk thing so I'll probably give it a go a few more times!) because it's so darned TEDIOUS. You have to hold the right-click button down for your guy to attack anything. The other guy may or may not attack. I can't just set auto-characteristics and count on my subsidiary guys to do their thing!
And all that talking. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You don't just get info from people. You have to page through conversations with every Tom, Dick and Dryad you meet. Maybe that's fun for some 13 year-old who wants to get immersed in a "story", but it slows the game down way too much for my taste.
Good thing I got it for $6 on eBay. (that should have been a clue right there that it isn't what we'd hoped it would be.......)

Great graphics...for 3 years ago.

My biggest complaint about this game is the use of a dated graphics engine. Even at the very highest settings, textures look terrible, character shapes look blocky, and lighting is marginal at best. One of the biggest annoyances is that character mouths don't move at all while talking. It is hard to get into the game when other games out there, such as NeverWinter Nights, are available and offer much better graphics and non-linear gameplay. This game is okay, but feels like it was produced 3 years ago.

Great Sequel -- What's Next?

This is a fabulous game!!!! The graphics are excellent, the storyline is engaging, and the journal is a great improvement on the original.

If you liked Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, the original Dungeon Siege, or Planescape: Torment, you will love this game even more!

Just one question for Microsoft -- What's next????

Great, but buggy

Dungeon Siege II is an excellent game. This is a substitute for those that are either sick of or not interested in Diablo II. This game, granted it looks a lot like it, does a lot of things different that prove entertaining.

The gameplay is solid, the story is intriguing, and the graphics are above par. The pet system is even an interesting twist.

The problem I had with this game was the bugs in the system. My system met all of the requirements up, but I'd still get errors and freezes every half hour to a hour of straight play. It takes some tweaking to delay this, but I haven't been able to 'cleanse' the game fully. Expect a solid game, but with some obstacles along the way. All in all, a good buy if you like Diablo-esque games.

Better than the original but the story is not very open ended. Very addictive for rpg players. A great way to unwind a busy day.

Missed the Mark

If the developers were trying to appease devotees of the original Dungeon Siege with this version, they greatly missed the mark. This game wastes too much space on videos and complicated character development. I still enjoy playing the original Dungeon Siege and was hoping this version would provide different worlds and monsters, with essentially the same mechanisms to play the game. The characters in DSII won't even attack a monster unless you right click on it.
The developers were on the right track with Legends of Aranna, where they upgraded the original version with new spells and weapons. However, the new realm provided in Aranna was so boring I didn't even complete the game. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll be able to stick it out to completion of this new version, too.

A rehash of baldurs gate and diablo II

I played balurs gate I and II. If you liked those games you will love this game. I however wasn't the biggest fan of those games and preferred games with less story telling and more of freedom to do whatever you want type of games. This game feels like I am playing Baldurs gate it has a very similar look to it. I never cared for the look or graphics in baldurs gate so I can't say I am very impressed with this games graphics. I prefer either the Everquest of Diablo II look. Many similarites in items and abilities that are in diablo II. Socketable items, exceptional items( same name as diablo II) , uniques(just like diablo II), rares, magic, magic find ability (diablo II), whirling strike (diablo II's whirlwind) , icebolt, firebolt. The skills tab and progression looks just like the one in Diablo II. So this game is like baldurs gate and diablo II meshed together. Online gaming was mediocre unlike like the big battle.net community in diablo II. The provoke ability is a copy off of the Everquest skill Taunt. You can't really go and explore and go wherever you please like in Everquest and World of Warcraft, I prefer that style of play. This is old school gaming. Questing and a rigid path your character must follow. Really can't game designers learn this is the past and Everquest and World of Warcraft are the future of RPG's. This game while entertaining and has very nice cinematic movies, is going to die a slow painful death.
