The good finally gets better. Well, a little better, anyway.

My reviews of DF1 and DF2 set out a list of my criticisms and compliments about the "Delta Force" series in general. To a large extent they remain applicable to "Land Warrior", but thankfully this time there are some notable improvements.

The basic format remains unchanged, i.e. a series of independent "quick missions" as well as some related "campaign missions." The basic layout of the interface screens also stays the same, but with some nicer graphics. Gone, however, is the multiple assault team format of DF1 and 2, which typically resulted (due to poor AI) in your buddies getting dead in a hurry. Now most missions focus solely on one character, whom the player chooses before the mission. This main character sometimes gets support from one or two other operatives, who tend to survive a bit longer (but not too much longer) and contribute a bit more than did their counterparts in DF1 and 2.

One of my favorite improvements is in the size of the available arsenal. The weapon selection is much larger than in DF1 and DF2, and includes the new OICW assault rifle. Additionally, your character gets to carry a main weapon, a secondary weapon (such as a submachine gun) and a sidearm, whereas in earlier versions there was no secondary weapon. This increases your available firepower and your versatility very noticeably.

The AI is improved somewhat (but not enough, in my opinion), and the bad guys tend to shoot straighter (if not faster) than they did in the first two versions. Still, to a great extent they still spend too much time standing in one place, so there is still a fair bit of weakness in the enemy's responsive actions.

The wide terrain areas remain one of the most enjoyable features of the Delta Force series. In LW, though, the buildings (with a few notable exceptions, like the Egyptian pyramids) tend to all look alike after awhile... because they are all alike. The missions tend to have a more individualized feel to them, unlike those of DF1 and 2, which started to all seem the same after playing just a few of them.

In a nutshell, Land Warrior is a nice improvement over previous Delta Force offerings, although a few of the old drawbacks remain. Nevertheless, this is the best of the series, and definitely some good fun. Try it and you'll probably like it.

Love it...

Great game for those of you who enjoy first person shooters with some technical aspects. Graphics are very good, movement and effects very good as well. Things that could use a little work...joy stick support, the ability to lean out from behind things to shoot (Soldier of Fortune) and the ability to better control what you carry with you. Example, permit you to carry more satchel charges or claymores but it slows you down a little or causes some other mild inconvenience. Great fun though and I wouldn't let these minor issues stop you from picking it up.

One heel of a game to play!

This is a great game to invest in. The graphics are great and the gameplay is awesome. I haven't had a problem out of it yet. I'm on the 17th mission right now and I'm hooked on this game. Don't pass this one up or you'll regret it.

Not just another shoot-em-up.

I would give this game 4.5 stars. Unlike the earlier DF games, this one actually runs. I have both of the first two, and they hardly run, even with a 733 mHZ and GeForce. Land warrior was a lot of fun. There aren't a ton of missions, but enough to keep you busy for a while(there are probably about 20 or so). The missions aren't particularly spectacular, but the thing that makes this game so different than others is the playing field. It is the only game I know of that I can reach out and touch someone from 1000+ yards with a .50 cal. There are no outer limits to the map. Although the terrain will repeate itself if you go far enough(if you run straight for about 5 minutes non-stop), the playing field is huge, and it gives you a lot more options to complete each mission or play online. Overall, the greatest thing about this game is the distance you can go. I own other games, such as the Rainbows Six series, and it is definitely just as much fun as them, without being just another shoot-em-up game. This one is definitly worth adding to your collection.

Great game

Delta Force 1 was good, but Delta Force 2 [wasn't]. Now Nova Logic brings Delta Force: Land warrior... what do I think? Its the best out of the three! They improved so much on the graphics and the gameplay is sweet. The only con is that the bad guys are still as stupid as they will ever get. You can walk passed these guys 8 feet ahead and they would just stand there.... But don't let that stop you from buying the game, cuz there is also multiplayer support, which is the best part of the game!!

My only beef is that it would have been sweet to configure a joystick on this puppy. Other than that, this is a really fun, not too complicated, first person shooter.

Good, but no cegar!

This game is great all around, but if you have played Delta Force 2 before you won't like this game that much. One thing they took away in DFLW is the grass. Now you cant hide as well as you could in DF2. The guns are awesome, but there is just too many if you ask me. Its a good game if you havent played any of the other Delta Force games yet. Take my advice get Delta Force 2 and wait for Delta Force 4!
