This is a beautiful 3D real-time strategy game. Earth 2150 brings to the ground what Homeworld introduced to the genre. The terrain is gorgeous and deformable. The camera is very easy to use. Unique overall campaign goals to keep in mind in addition to mission goals adds a lot of depth to the game.

Speaking of depth, you can even take the battle underground in tunnels! You have to manage power for your buildings, your research needs, and whether you spend the credits you mine or send them back to the main base. You even design the units you will build by picking a base vehicle and its equipment.

All of this depth is what I find fascinating about this game; it has all this stuff crammed in, and it's even fun to play! The only problems I have with this game are with the manual. It gives a decent overview, but doesn't give a lot of details about the units, buildings, or advanced features (like platoons). But there are very good tutorials, so RTS vets can jump right in.

Earth 2150 plays great and looks great, and there is a lot to do in it. It even runs pretty well on my PII 400MHz, 96MB RAM, and 8MB ATI 3D Rage Pro integrated AGP video.

Best RTS Ever... Period

WoW! Best graphics, sound, and gamplay ever in any RTS. The option of going underground makes Earth 2150 feal that you are actually using stradegy to deafeat your enemy not just sending in as much units as possible and seeing who wins. The music feels very war-like and the sounds are great. But probably the coolest aspect (at least I like it) of Earth 2150 is that you do WWII type stradgys, buid those x things that stop tanks then trenches and place gun towers at the top of the trenches. Fom screenshots you might think this is just a Warzone 2050 knockoff. let me tell you it isn't the only thing remotly like Warzone is the camera views witch alot of people thought was the best thing about Warzone. If you own a computer and play any kind of stragy game you MUST buy this!

It almost hurts me to see this game ignored when games like Force Commander and Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun dominate sales. This is the rebirth of real-time strategy games.

Graphically, it is a wonder. Lighting is modeled excellantly with day and night cycles along with headlights on each of the vehicles. In addition, as time passes you see common weather events occer namely snow and rain. of these I think the coolest is the snow because you can see it build up on buildings and idle units.

However, the graphics aren't just for show. They help inform the player that certain changes have taken place. For instance heavy rain bogs down advancing troops while night and snow significantly cut down the line of sight of your units to one fifth. To combat night, you have the headlights this allows your units to see farther, but, at the cost being easier to be seen. So, the designers allow you to turn the lights on, off, or on an automatic cycle that switches them on at night and off during the day. Leaving them off allows you to hide your base and perform surprise attacks. Speaking of surprise attacks you can also build underground tunnel complexes so you can sneak underneath enemy bases and attack their rear.

I'm sorry I can't mention everything I want to about this game so I'll just have to list a couple of the best features: an excellent mission editor, an involving campaign, customizable units and unit AI scripts, an unique unit grouping system, and three different, balanced sides to play.

Earth 2150 - An Enthralling RTS Experience...

I got this game back when it first came out and was unable to play it because my PC was too slow (my father got the game, he wasn't aware of the specfications - parents...). Anyway, we purchased a new PC about one year later, but by that time I had forgotten about "Earth 2150." However, I found it one day and being the strategy-game crazed maniac I am, I played it. Sure as hell, my machine ran the game like a charm and all I have to say is that this RTS does NOT disappoint in the slightest: allow me to explain...

The year is 2150 (well, um...I know you know already!) and the Earth is in a state of chaos. A War between the United Civilised States and the Eurasian Dynasty has caused an unavoidable cataclysmic inevitability and the Earth is doomed to be destroyed. Meanwhile, a forgotten Moon Race has also noticed the activity on Gaya's (the Earth's) surface and are fully aware of the ramifications of these happenings. All three races must now seek to escape the impending disaster by harvesting resources from the Earth to build an escape vessel of gargantuan proportions. However, resources are limited and many thousands are needed - all three races must therefore battle for dominance over the dying planet in order to escape the coming cosmic disaster. The storyline is great and highly original - it gets 10/10 from my side.

Now onto the juicy bits: as far as graphics go, this game still looks great (well, it did in 2002 and 2003). All units are immaculately detailed and well shaped. The atmospheres range from clear summer days to volcanic wastelands and frozen barrens. Night time looks fantastic and all units and structures turn on their lights for improved vision in the evening. The visual effects are stunning and the movements of each unit is unique and convincing. You are also able to pan around and look at structures from all angles which makes for a much more immersive game and the environments are stunningly rendered. I'd give graphics 9/10 for today's standards, they still impress me alot.

Gameplay is fantastic. You can select all your units and order them to attack and even create platoons to manage a group of units, which is an ingenious tool as the computer can do everything simultaneously and this brings you up to speed as such. Missions range from seek and destroy to recovery missions and even defence missions, but most of your missions will involve harvesting resources and delivering them back to your main base. You also keep units from previous missions and can ferry them back to your main base, so you benefit from having a number of units that survive. I just cannot flaw gameplay - the command structure of the game is perfect and makes for fiersome combat situations. 10/10 for gameplay.

The ability to research enhanced weaponry, resource gatherers and unit chassis' is excellent. Each race has their own unique units and can upgrade their own unique weapons - my personal favourite Unit was the Eurasian Dynasty's bomber helicopter - once you upgraded its bombs to atom bombs, you could got to town! Woo hoo! Each upgrade is permanent and so you don't have to continue re-upgrading your units like in other RTS Games. Researching ability gets 10/10 once again...

As aforementioned, each race has their own unique traits and abilities. For example, the UCS build Mechanized Warriors and have powerful Plasma technology while the ED have far more primitive yet hardy tanks and vehicles and have technologies such as the Ion Cannon and devastating Laser cannons (not to mention those Atom Bombs - Oh boy!). All races share certain technologies, such as Missile launchers and harvesting equipment. All units that carry projectile based weapons must be reloaded and units with shields and energy based weapons need to recharge them occasionally - this brings another element of realism to the game and you can now attack the ammo carrying units in order to cripple your enemies' defences etc. My favourite race overall was the UCS, simply because of their incredible Mech Warriors and those plasma cannons - woah, do they rock! There are alot of clever elements that some gamers seem to never notice - an experienced RTS player can see these things while Rookies tend to take them for granted. What can I say? All races are fantastic and have their own methods of attacking, building, mining and defending. A solid 10/10 for diversity, ingenuity and innovation.

My only real complaint with this game is that you may not be able to finish all the missions (I finished every mission with the LC and UCS). This is because I gathered more than my quota in resources on individual missions for every faction, but with the ED I just finished gathering all the resources I needed before the end of the game as such (I had like 2 or 3 mission to go). So I missed out a little on the whole ED Experience, but this was a minor element really. You have to remember that your primary goal is gathering resources - NOT killing the s*** out of everyone (though we all LOVE that. Well I do anyway...)

Overall this game gets 97% on my scorecard. The FMV sequences are a little dated but still really cool and the game as a whole is one of the most enjoyable, unique and original RTS games I have ever played. I highly recommend this game to RTS fans and that RTS veterans (such as myself) play on the hard difficulty - you'll be in for a challenge, especially towards the final missions. I often had my bases annihilated by long range attacks - this forces you to be highly aggressive as opposed to merely defending your base, building up an attack force and then pulverizing your foes (like in previous missions). If you're a serious RTS gamer looking for an original game that's sure to be a challenge, then "Earth 2150" is for you my friend! And as for lastability, you can play LAN Games, Multiplayer and Skirmishes - you can have endless amounts of fun with this - I played the game for about 3-4 months after I finished the campaigns. Do yourself a favour - buy or rent or do whatever - but get this game, face the challenge and crush your foes into tiny ashes as they were meant to be! Thank you...

Great Ideas, but...

Thats all there is to it. I had read countless reviews about how wonderful this game was, only to find that it is an unfortuntate excuse for a RTS. This game deserves credit in the sense that it has great graphics, story line, and gameplay variety; but it lacks any real fun value. For example, any player new to the real-time strategy genre will be overwhelmed by the excessivly numerous option availible to you. Don't get me wrong: I love a varied RTS. But this one embellished far too much on graphics to pay attention to anything else. The sound is cheap, providing each unit with only limited dialogue, and for that matter every unit on each of the three sides has the same voice/dialogue. Often times it's difficult to hear unit acknowledgements or explosions and gunfire, so you don't even have the slightest idea when you're being attacked. The game's physics are ridiculus, giving a gigantic cumbersome air/space craft vehicle with the instaneous speed and manuverability of a cheetah. In addition to poor sound quality, and bad unit movements, the most obvious impediment to the player is layout. Sure, you collect minerals and build an army right? Essentially yes, but its not that easy. You have to specifically research and design each unit's chassis, weaponary, defenses, after which you've probably been attacked before you have built what could be considered an army. Even if you do get a large army established, there is still the fact that you have to keep researching and SPECIFIACALLY design each unit AGAIN, in order to stay at the top of the technology tree. The units even look the same on your construction menus (which often get confused with the structure menus), and they are all a solid same color, with the same simple voice acknowledgments. I don't mean to be a bitter grape, saying all this amongst all these 5 star reviews, but believe me--I know what I'm talking about. Every reviewer who says that this game is revolutionary only sees how different this game is to other RTS'in the fact that it has good graphics. So overall this game has beautiful graphics, but crappy gameplay. Suffice to say, if you want an easy to learn, difficult to master, and fun to play game then buy something GOOD like Red Alert 2 (great units and interface) or Starcraft (neat variety)but don't buy Earth 2150 for all that it has going for it is astonishing graphics, and an insanely overated interface of confusing and unecessary options.

I purchased this game based upon past reviews. Boy I am glad I did, without going into to great depth here is a brief description of the game: harvest, build, and FIGHT.

The graphics are excellent and game play is fairly easy (once you're past the learning curve). I cannot comment on replay ability because I have finished a complete mission yet.

The 3D effects are unbelievable, but you better have a 3D card (I have a Voodoo that I love).

I feel this game was money well spent, (as I'm sure you know there's nothing worst than getting a game that sucks) and look forward to many hours of playing.

BEST RTS GAME EVER MADE!

I think that this game is the absolute best, and by far the best strategy game on the market. The fully customizable view is a cool addition and the tunneling feature is also very neat. There are also many unique and specialized combinations of unit weapons, shielding, and chassis types. Also, there are tons of research options. The only downside is the unit speech, especially with the Lunar Corporation. Their girlish and stupid voices can get very annoying after a while. Also, the LC's sheilding mechanisms seem to be a bit overly strong. The units also don't build very fast, forcing you to rely more on strategy than on huge troop swarms. But, overall, this game is a must buy for all you hard core RTS gamers.

And old game; but it rocks.

My friends and I recently re-deiscovered this old classic. We ingage in online battles almost every week; damn is it fun.

The graphics are up to par with the most modern games, and the 3D camera is great. The units are very very diverse, dispite what that other reviewer said. There are mechs, tanks, helicopters, hover vehicles, anti-grav vehicles, ships, and boats. You can build bridges, dig trenches, build tunnels - what other game lets you do that? This game involves so much strategy - that is to say, there are so many ways of accomplishing your objective. There are many weapons, and shields which protect from energy weapons; non-energy weapons need to be resupplied, which adds an awesome dose of realism - and fun. I love shooting down my friend's resupply planes during a big battle, then taking out the helpless unit. It's tough, though, because the planes are well-armored, and move fast, dropping off the ammo and heading away.

Another feature which is cool is the ability to divide the screen, and keep an eye on multiple locations at once.

Man, nightime in this game is great. Everything gets dark, and your base lights up. All lights - on buildings and vechicles - can be turned on and off at your discretion. With lights off, it's much tougher to see units in the dark; but they move slower.

With the LC, they get power from the sun. At night, they are forced to use batteries. But if your battery runs out, you're screwed till dawn. I've never played a game like that; the scariest thing is to be sitting there, helpless, hoping the enemy doesn't attack. Because you're defenseless. It may seem like it'd be frusterating; but no, it's just scary.

The other two teams have differant power situations, which don't involve the sun.
Man, does this game rock.

And if you haven't already, buy "Firefly - The Complete Series". I swear, you won't regret it. Just search for it here on Amazon.
