This game is an absolute must have for all Forgotten Realms, RPG, Fantasy, and SciFi fans. It has a very scketchy storyline that is covered up by amazing gameplay, awesome inventory selections, and in depth towns and dungeons. Whether scouraging through Dragon's Eye for the Heartstone Gem, or wandering aimlessly searching for the 6th Crest in Lower Dorn's Deep, this game is an awesome and exciting must have for all gamers out there. Including an awesome ending with a cool cinematic.

Back with a blast from the past D&D rules.

This game was an excellent D&D style old fashion hack and slash. you form your complete party and travle from point a to point b and basic hack and slash all monsters get xp and gold find magic items and ultimately save the world. Just like D&D rpg except no real need to roleplay unless you need to complete the mission. Excellent game when you are in the mood for just some good old fashion hack and slash. Three thumbs up?? Enjoy this try Icewind Dale Heart of Winter.

the best!!!!!!

this is a really good RPG game for fans. your characters can get really good with the right weapons and experience. the monsters are really tough too, but it just makes it more challenging. you can feel the excitement when you come close to completing a mission or killing a big horde of stuff. buy it!

When baldur's gate came out,it was the rage. Now Icewind Dale out and it a improment...in some ways. Firstof all, the max hit point points per level, the salvation from relaoding that plagued Baldur's Gate. The next major thing, well Minsc said it better than I can: "Less talk, more fight". There is an amazing large amount fighting in Icewind Dale, by the time you make it to Kuldahar, all should at least at level two or or the brink of two or three; in baldur's gate the main charater was at level two until at least Nashkel! All the new spells are nice but you only one level seven spell and the rest are all just scrolls. One of the most annoying things is throught th e game you reloading because your charater are dying. People are how have played Icewind Dale but have Played Baldur's Gate are thinking no problem I'll just recuit more. Wrong, you create you whole party. Anyway, this eventually stops when your druid/cleric leans animate dead. Overall this game is worth playing.

An engrossing play...

I purchased Icewind Dale about the same time I got Diablo II. Needless to say, Diablo II has been collecting dust while I play Icewind Dale... ID is a much better game (IMHO), and plays very well. Aside from stability problems within the Infinity Engine, this game has definitely been an unexpected highlight this year.

Icewind Dale is not that good at all

I cannot belive the number of people who love this game. When comparing this game to the likes of BG, BGII and Planescape: Torment it is ridiculous that this game be rated anywhere near as good. The graphics are only slightly better than BG, but they are vastyly inferior to BGII and Torment. The sound is good I'll give it that, but then the sound is just as good in the three other games I mentioned. This game is also way too easy. I beat it in less than two weeks and I don't play more than 1-2 hours a day. I also do not recall ever dying in the game either. Another thing is that it gets a boring after a little while. All of the battle is inside areas that in many cases is unremarkable, but their are some nice ones. The gameplay is also poor becuase one quickly gathers a lot of gold and gems in any of the many dungeons (which are practically the only areas in the game) but without gem bags or bags of holding you end up dumping VERY good magical items and gems because some of the items are just so ridiculously powerful. At one point I almost dumped my +4 weapons in favor of the +3s and +2s because the game was too easy. Also in dungeons one might expect traps, and some nasty ones might I add, these are nonexistent in Icewind Dale. A party could quite easily get along without a thief at all. This game was no where near as good as it could or should be. If you are interested in buying this game, don't waste your money. Instead buy BG, BGII or Planescape: Torment or save it until Pool of Radiance 2 or Neverwinter Nights come out. All of these games are VASTLY superior and also are a lot of fun the second or third time around unlike Icewind Dale that is not great the first time.

Linear and slow

Dull very very dull and very linear. Not worthy of the Baldar's Gate games. The funny thing is that even after I knew this (about five min. into the game) I continued to play. Trust me it is not worth it and 2 stars is more then gererous.

Sorta o.k., but not worth the money

.... It's ... frustrating, too the point that it isn't fun. I'm an avid gamer. It's fun to "role-play" low level characters. An orc or two can be a very scary thing. This doesn't translate well to a computer game that wipes out an entire party in ten seconds even with the "AI" scripts on. The visuals are cool, but I wish I would have plunked my money down for something else. This game does not deliver. Boring linear plot and hack-n-die. Buy some dice, a figure and paper for a real roleplaying game.

Great game, excellent storyline.

I'm not giving the game 5 stars becuase, it misses the excellent animations between chapters like in Planescape Torment, just a book with static images and a narrator. But for the rest it is an excellent game.
