After playing threw the entire game, on and off, in three weeks, I can say the game is...descent. I started off with one character thinking it was like my fav Baldur's Gate. But no you don't pick up new party members. So of course I played threw half the game till I hit Chapter three (realizing I couldn't beat the boss of this chapter with only one character (a high lvl ranger). I had to start completely over and make another party and get them ready to import to that boss battle. In a shorter note it would've been nice to have computer characters join your party.

The fact that all of your decisions are useless in dialogs. Nothing really changes the story it only changes the amout of exp that it returns. Aside from my dislikes of the game. I really enjoyed some of the interesting weapons and even if you didn't like the ICewind Dale you should get it with the Heart of Winter set to start with and it will improve your game play immediately...then again...if you haven't played Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 screw this game and get those...excellent pieces of work. Oh yes and the Hearts of Winter game definately had some sound problems that i can't get worked out (it hums very loudly when it loads up..i've no clue what's with it but it looks promising if i get it working)

Step one-BG, Two-TSC, Three - IWD, Four- BG2...

This game rocks. What more can really be said? Time was taken to create realism in the form of environment... lush surroundings and detailed 'monsters'. This makes for a very enjoyable 'romp' in an adventure that you're nomally forced to only read about.

Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Beware.....

I must say I was very skeptical in buying this game, but to tell you the truth it was maybe the best decision's Ive made in along time since Diablo 2. Wonderful stroyline, and awesome gameplay, best music I have heard in a game since Chrono Cross, and Diablo 2.....A must buy for RPG fans!!!!!!!

Way better then BG

Inoticed that alot of people who have problems with this game say that it is good compared to BG. However I had all the problems they complain of with BG. Considering that the Character choices (except for the one you start with) statuses were extremly bad. In Icewind Dale this is fixed in the beginning you select all your party. I don't know if this was done in BG2 (since I did not want to buy the sequel to a game I could not finish not understanding the plot) but it should of been done in BG1.

Icewind Dale is not like Baldurs Gate, this difference are that Baldurs Gate has more freedom in it, both stories are a straight line story, and pretty easy to understand. Although you really have to know a bit about roleplaying, and not the 3rd edition but the old AD&D 2nd edition. If u were a fan of the old Roleplaying way you should diffinetly get this game, actually you should get this game if you are a Roleplaying fan.

The Game set in the world of Icewind Dale also better known as the home of Drizzt Do' Urden the famous Drow. written by R.A Salvatore. Although Drizzt is not in the story the game is amazing great Grafic and nice sound.

If you are a person of patience and person which love to explore this is something for you.

So, you like BG I & II...?

Then maybe you shouldn't consider playing this game. Though I suppose that would depend upon what elements you liked about them. To be fair, I haven't finished Icewind Dale I or II. Of course, there's a reason.

You have a six member party. You don't get to pick those party members up through interactions or interesting story lines. You have to create them yourself. If you think fighting is the most fun, engaging, and important part of an RPG, maybe it won't matter to you. Sidequests? Nonexistent. Towns are not a central feature. Like an even less fun Dungeon Siege, maybe.

Slow at first, then picking up speed.

I bought this game looking for a good RPG, and a less gothic story line than Diablo 2. The story is gripping, the plot is well thought, and what you can do is quiet impressing. You can chose to be a warrior, mages, paladin, ranger, cleric, bard, theif, and a priest. Or, you can choose to be 3 of these at once on one character. You construct a party of 6 members, each having his or her on unique skills, and battle through perilous dungons collecting rare items. There are legendary blades of fire that can be obatined only once a game, proving to be quiet a task. Also, the multiplayer action is "lag free".

Now, the game will start out slow, but it will pick up speed later on. I advise you not to buy this if you're looking for utter mayhem, gore, blood, continuous killing, and frequent action. There is on average, at least 200 monsters per dungon. You can levels like in Diablo, but there is a skill cap of 1,801,000 exp points.

So, to sum it all up, it's a good game. You'll want to play it more than once, but probably no more than 3 times. I've gotten 1/5 of the way through and I've had it at least a week.

Thank You

THIS GAME RULES

I actually purchased Icewind Dale after I bought BG2 and in my opinion BG2 was not that much better. Icewind Dale definetly has the best sound out of any game ever made. The graphics are a little sketchy, but still beautiful to watch and admire. The gameplay is a lot more linear than BG2, but I actually like the linear parts of BG2 more than the wide open areas, so that was definetly one of the aspects I loved about this game that some people hated. Because this game is based on the 2nd addition AD&D rules the gameplay is fast and gracefully complex. Im sorry if I compared Icewind Dale to BG2 to much in this review, but there is just so many similarities between the two. Overall Icewind Dale is an amazing game that supplies many hours of fast and furious RPG action.
