Pretty good, until the end

I received this game some time ago and decided to leave my "two cents worth." I guess that I really don't have too much new to add to the things already stated. I typically like adventure games that have a good plot, nice screen images to pull you into the story and challenging, but not too difficult puzzles. This game came through on most of those requirements. It was spooky at times, especially since I usually play at night in a dark and quiet room. The plot kept me interested and the puzzles were not too difficult. Most of the story sequence made sence. BUT, I agree with most of the other reviews, the voice acting was horrible. I could have lived with that, but the ENDING is absolutely AWFUL. I couldn't believe that I had basically wasted my time with this game to get to the ending. It was unnecessary and really did not fit with the rest of the plot.

I'm So Glad I Decided to Keep on Playing

Black Mirror is probably one of the best mystery games I've ever played - but it does have a few downfalls (hence the 4 star review).

In this game you play Samuel Gordon - a british nobleman who is obsessed with proving that his grandfather's death was not accidental or suicide, but was in fact a murder. In order to do this, he returns to the family manor to snoop around & see what he can find out. However, during his stay, several more murders occur that he knows in his gut must be connected, but how? Could it be the centuries-old family curse?

In order to find out, you get to explore many, many different locations, including: 2 different manors, a church, a small village, the coroners home, a place similar to Stonehenge, an insame asylum, and quite a few underground tunnels & passages.

There are several things I loved about this game: the graphics are awesome, there are so many places to explore, most of the things you need to do make sense, it's a pretty long game when compared to other mystery games out there, and the ending is quite shocking.

However, there are also a few downfalls as well, including: the language appears to have been translated into English, and many of the phrases/use of language just don't seem to fit (this happens especially in the beginning); many of the items you are guided to click on aren't necessary; it uses different controls than most games, so you have to get used to what buttons to click when; and several times during the game Samuel can die, and if this happens, you don't get the option to "try again" - you have to load your game & begin again from the last time you saved it. SO BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR GAME OFTEN, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN A TRAP IS JUST WAITING IN YOUR MIDST...

Overall, I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys playing mystery games. It's fun and, considering its length, it's well worth the money. However, just be aware that you may need to force yourself to keep playing in the beginning (as I did), because the best parts are yet to come...

Good, but too much talk

Im all for a well made story incorporated into a game, heck it's practically a requirement for adventure games to have, but what I cannot tolerate is designers insistence on shoving 10 minutes of plot down the players throat followed by an hour of gameplay, and then repeating the process..While Black Mirror doesnt neccesarily exploit that concept, their detatchment from gameplay to plot is noticeable, giving players too many gaps between learning of the story, and experiencing it..Having said that, this game has a nice dark atmosphere to it, plenty of beautiful artwork, and will keep you playing for a long time if you are willing to enjoy it to the end..

Not bad....

The only hangup in the game comes when you have to wait for someone to give you information. You have to go back and forth to all other locations (once I had to do this four times!) before the person gives you what you have been waiting for!

I have played many of these type of adventure games alot by the Adventure company, (Dreamcatcher) This is a beautiful game to look at, from far away i might add as you never see the charectors up close, the story is old been done many times and the ending is just plain depresssing and silly. If you have not already played Syberia , spend your money on Syberia or Darkfall,Darkfall is a scary game, instead of The Black Mirror.

another unjustly slagged adventure game

Look-this is not the last express, blade runner or black dahlia ie a classic, but it is definitely 4 star stuff. It is a really long game (usually a negative for me) but it never dragged (like chtulhu did)and I always felt I wanted to go back and finish it (a good sign). As for the ending I do not understand the complaints I thought it was well designed and it definitely surprised me (no spoilers pls.). Graphics were exquisite for an older game. In short, this is worth your adventure gamer time. Cheerio.

Sounds better then it is

I started playing the game, it seemed to me like it was dragging on and I got bored, with the storyline. There was nothing to keep me interested in this game.

Uggggh!!

Oh hey....can any game suck more?? I got drawn into the spooky box cover and the story description on the back. Aha...but looks are deceiving. Once I started to play, well what a disappointment. First off, I hate games in which I am in essence the "director" always clicking the character to go here and there and waiting for him to actually get there. I actually think my clicker-finger has suffered damage...lol! And then there's the endless dialogs ----blah,blah,blah! I found myself telling the charecter (Samual Gordon) to shut-up. What a waste of time.
Oh sure, the sound was good and the graphics were ok, but that didn't make-up for the lousy story line. I do have more complaints about the game, but I think you all get my drift on it. What a waste...the creators could've done alot better.

This is one of the better games for me. It flows well, is interesting and has great graphics. The puzzels are solvable, not too easy, just solvable.
