Yea, i gotta hand it to activsion, they pulled this one off. I wuz a lil skeptical that thiz would be another GTA, Getaway rip off but itz not. Yes, there are fimilar actions in tha game like bein able to roam freely and jackin tha innocent's rides but thurrs a whole nother take to it. U get to play a cop, drive around solving random crimes if u choose, and wield a M16 in EACH HAND. not only that, it has a tight azz fighting system too thatz off tha hook. But wait, it doesnt stop thurr, tha soundtrack to tha game has to be one of tha best i've ever in in my life. they should mos def put tha soundtrack for sale at a music shop, HOWEVER, only if u like west coast rap and a lil mix of rock alternative. Tha voice actin iz movie quality fa realz and tha fighting sequences give ya feelin like you watchin jet li on tha big screen. MUST BUY!!!!

does'nt come close to Grand Theft Auto

True Crime;Streets of LA looked like a nice game,so I decided to rent it.I really had high expectations for this game.I started playing it, and I did enjoy it.

But the missions are the most rubbish, boring and stupid ever. Not to mention the controls.Driving a car was so hard, the camera was terrible.

But the one thing that really bugs me is the feel of the city. The gta cities had such a nice feel,I could go on playing for hours. The solving street crimes was interesting at first, but it soon got boring.

My final thoughts on this game:You should rent it first, like I did, just in case you don't like it.The grand theft auto's were amongst my favourite game's ever, this one is certainly not.

I thought this game would be great and they didn't let me down. It's hard not to compare this to Grand Theft Auto for obvious reasons. It's too bad the controls of different cars weren't as smooth as GTA's. Lots of times it feels like you're sliding instead of rolling. The only other gripe I have is that stupid dragon boss fight. I didn't see any sense in adding this "horror" feature to a "shooter" game. These two quirks prevented me from giving it 5 stars. Surprisingly, I did enjoy the fighting scenes. I stay away from fighting games because I am no good at them and they just don't interest me, but this game made it easy. Although I did not learn all of the special finishing moves, the three I did know got me through it. Upgrading your fighting, driving, and shooting skills got tougher, but the challenge was fair.

The city is HUGE, bigger than any other map I've played in a game, except maybe "The Getaway". The side missions are endless, which gives it great replay value.

Oh yeah, stay away from "No One Lives Forever" for Playstation 2 unless you plan on using the CD as a frisbee or a coaster.

real cop reviews police games

ok. well first let me say i had a good time with this game. it would be a better world if real police officers wrote reviews about police type games instead of some moron who has no idea of what being a cop is like. the graphics and realism of the city is unbelieveable. better than vice city, better than gtaIII, better than dead to rights. (although dead to rights story was fantastic).

pros of true crime:
as the main character you are able to choose from 4 different hot vehicles in the police impound to drive (unlock code needed) get it at gamestop or another cheat code provider.

many cheat and unlockables available to make game more fun and interesting.

city of la makes you feel like you are really in la.

back to the unlockables you are able to play as different characters instead of just nick

good cop bad cop rating makes game more intertaining and gives gamer the option of doing the right hing or being "dirty"

chris walken great voice over, and props to snoop dogg for lending his one of kind voice

being able to search people on the street for drugs and weapons without having probable cause.(only if real life were like this)

wide array of guns available.

women in game are hott hott hott!!!

cons of true crime:
camera angles suck!!

during the hand to hand fighting good luck, people are extremely hard to fight and actually win. may have to fight same person 2 or 3 times before you beat them. even street thugs like to fight hard.

too many street crimes happening right away, just after you finish one crime another breaks out right near you. makes it hard to complete a mission and move on especially if you can't just ignore crimes.

missions are drawn out if you are going for a good cop rating, too short if your going for bad cop.

overall scale of 1-10 10 being the ultimate this game falls short in too many areas. graphics help but too many problems to piss some one off. overall 6.

true crime is the best!!!!!!!!!!

This game is compared to GTA a lot, and from now to even before it came out I heard the boasts that this game was so much better than GTA. I can only go along with that in one category: Fighting. The hand-to-hand combat does surpass GTA's unarmed fighting controls/moves/visual are better but that is the only aspect of this game that has anything on GTA. Instead of being a hit man for the underworld you're a police officer meaning you can't just go around killing everyone you want (can be a good or bad thing depending on how you view it). Instead of stealing cars you confiscate cars from drivers telling them you're the police and you need their vehicles. Pedestrians aren't as helpless as they are on GTA and will fight better harder and sometimes use guns. When you drive around random crimes are committed and it's up to you to stop them. The controls to driving are harder than to GTA and takes some time to getting used to, which also can be a good or bad thing control a car in this game at high speeds is more realistic in GTA. You start off with two handguns and can pick up guns from criminals you bust (or kill). You cannot reload guns and as soon as it is out of bullet you drop it to switch back to hand guns. The missions aren't as spectacular as GTA and sort of get repetitive after a while. Shoot him fight him that's as far as the missions basically get. You never really die in the game and if you're defeated don't get a game over but a bad ending. I guess that isn't' that big of a deal though I didn't like that aspect of it. There are small things in the game that just make you shake your head. Any car you pick is strong enough to push five cars bigger than it, and bowl over huge trees, but if you run into a bush you'll be halted in your tracks, that and you can drive through metal fences but you cannot wooden ones (guess they decided to make the wooden fences out of the wood of bushes). There are little glitches through the game (maybe because I rented a bad copy? Not sure). This game doesn't take long to beat, and if one puts the time and effort into it you could get all the endings just by renting the game once. Worth Renting? Yes But buying is a different story

Ridiculously disappointing

First of all, since I live in Los Angeles, let me explain something to everyone that is playing this game all over the world: the ONLY way that this game slightly resembles L.A. is with its street names and freeway numbers - that is IT. It looks NOTHING like LA, feels NOTHING like LA, and 90% of this game is still completely made up. Yes, that's right. Anyone (and I mean ANYONE) who actually lives here knows exactly what I'm talking about. No traffic - are you kidding me? The creators of this game must live in Ohio somewhere. Street signs completely wrong half the time. Everyone, even tourists know that after Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood the next street up North is Sunset Blvd, not whatever they put in this game.
The soundtrack is probably the worst one of all video games ever created. Nothing but rap. Dialogs are extremely cheesy and stupid. The game is VERY short. The controls are aweful. One word that would also describe this nonsense of a game is BORING.
Let's face it people: GTA Vice City will NEVER be beaten. I don't care how many times other developers try to mess with it, it will not happen. VICE CITY FOREVER.
Bottom Line: if you have GTA expectations, or if you were a fan of Vice City, do yourself a favor and do NOT buy this game. Waste of money.

Great game

This game is just as good if not better that GTA. It has better graphics, better fights, and better driving action. Yeah, the soundtrack doesn't have your favorite tunes from the 80s but that would not fit with the LA backdrop. Just play the damn game and you'll see.

GREAT FUN - Action Packed

This is a really fun game. People are making the mistake of comparing it to Vice City, but they shouldn't. it is a completely different game. If your looking for Vice City, then play Vice City. If you you want something different, this is it.
In this game you get to be the good guy, who turns bad (if you want) There are great shooting scenes, fun car chases, and the scenery of Los Angeles.

True Crime was the game back in fall, 2003 which everyone believed to be the next GTA clone. Truth is, the driving in this game feels familiar if you've been playing GTA3 and Vice City to death. The story of the game puts you, the player, as Nick Kang--a cop whose main job in the game is to bust and kill, and to solve his father's murder. The good cop/bad cop meter is one of those factors that keep True Crime and the GTA games separate. This also makes way for alternate endings. You don't get the same ending as a good cop if you're a bad one.

LA is so huge--free-roaming in over 200 square miles also never gets old. You can learn to fight people John Woo style and take people as human shields. Arresting criminals raises your good cop meter--and killing them raises your bad cop meter.

Mission after mission, True Crime keeps going like no other game. The game's strong point is its branching storyline--and added to which, if you don't like rap music--you're going to outright despise the game's soundtrack. The voice acting is better than expected, and the graphics are incredibly realistic and smooth as silk.

To set things straight, there are no motorcycles, no helicopters and certainly no speedboats. If you can learn to accept the fact that LA isn't the same as Vice City or Liberty City, there is no reason why you shouldn't enjoy True Crime: Streets of LA.
