Child Corruptor

I really don't think that anyone should be buying this for their children. This is obviously a dark tool of Satan. The mini-game in which you sacrifice the life of an innocent infant in order to appease your dark master is a dead give-away. Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be warlocks.

Riding the Harry Potter Hype Machine...

What a snoozefest! Whenever a game review includes "Fun for the whole family", that is always a good warning sign. Most of these Blockbuster-movie based games are usually pretty lame but this one is actually playable; this is probably why people are gushing all over it. It does not mean that it is good, no way! Harry Potter is just a well polished, slapped together, cash-in quick game. Parents will be forced to buy it, so it will automatically generate alot of cash. It really does'nt need mine.

Not all video cards supported

The game comes with a list of supported video cards printed on the box. When I found out my card was not supported, the manufacturer asked me to send them my opened copy of the game so they could send me a new shrink wrapped copy to send to Amazon in order to get a refund!

Im going to be honest this was a good game, however I have a big fear of spiders and playing this game I knew had aragog in it but I didnt know he jumped out to the screen and I hyervenalted and fainted because of that. Also during the game there is little spiders and such near you, I would advise you to not play this game if afraid of spiders or snakes. It was a good game though. If your not afraid of spiders or snakes go for it!

Don't buy this game for PC. First of all the graphics are so bad you would think you play some 90's 3D game.If you have PS2, then buy it for PS2. The game really much better made, in terms of graphics and storyline. Well the only people who can really enjoy it is 12 and under year old kids.

Just read the book!

Its the same as the book acept you have to do everything yourself. Like for an example, in the book harry and ron get the hairs to the polly juise potion together but in the game only you which is harry have to get it alone. So I think its a ripe off.

don't buy it

Although this game is fun for the whole family, it has some technical problems. I have had problems with EA Games, they don't seem to like to help with the game.

Computer Crashing Problems With This Game

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 1 / 2

I attempted to play this on my home PC:

Operating System Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 1533 MHz (11.5 x 133) 1800+
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4400 (128 MB)
Sound Card Creative SB PCI128 (Ensoniq ES5880) Sound Card

I am unsure what the problem was, but the game reconfigured my video card settings and crashed my PC. [The screen pixelated and I couldn't get my PC to boot except in debugging mode and even that was only for a short time. I eventually reconfigured the settings by going into the Start menu --> Run --> cmd --> chkdsk and promptly uninstalled the game. PC works fine now.]

I was able to play this game on my husband's laptop, a notibly slower computer with a less-advanced video card (same OS) and it played okay.

The game itself is really fun. Just be careful because you may have the same problem I did. I almost lost my entire computer because of this game and I wouldn't want anyone else to have the same thing happen to them.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 4 / 4

First of all, when I write this review, Im going to totally ignore the fact that this game is about Harry Potter. Why? Because, most people are probably going to buy this game anyway, whether or not its good. So just keep that in mind as I review.

1. THE GRAPHICS: What I really love about the graphics is the excellent compatability. It has such a wide range of textures and resolutions, its hard to find a PC that cant run it. If you do have the hardware to push the details up to max, your in for a treat. The game is extremely detailed graphically. When I visited Hagrids hut, I was amazed to find a pigpen, complete with snorting moving pigs in back of his hut. I was even more amazed when I climed into the pigpen, and they attacked me! I cleverly cast "Impedementa" on them to escape. Graphically, I love it. Most of the clipping issues in the original game (walking through walls, climbing up thin air) are gone.

2. GAMEPLAY: HPATCOS gampeplay is spectacularly average. At its core, it offers solid adventuring gameplay. Extra features such as bean trading, quidditch, dueling, house points, and potion making add some depth, but are slightly shallow later in the game. By the time your 3/4 through the game, you just want to get it over with, and explore Hogwarts. Thats the best part of the game, wandering aimlessly around hogwarts. I really have to say that finishing the classes was BORING! I had much more fun just exploring hogwarts. The classes themselves are just LONG puzzles, but nothing that cant be easily solved. You end up doing 20-30 action packed puzzles per class, which can get pretty boring. The gameplay is, as I said, average.

3. SOUND AND MUSIC: Adapting the amazing musical pieces to the game was done very well. Whenever you enter a fightscene, the bass BOOMS! I have a subwoofer under my desk, and It was quite something to explore the forbidden forest with all the creepy music!

PROS: Great graphics, very compatible, high replay factor, easy to learn, great music,

CONS: It will take a very good computer to run it at its highest settings, not much depth, too short, BAD final fightscene,

OVERALL: Even if your only a casual HP fan, this game stands its own as a solid adventure title.
