Move over Microsoft, Dreamcatcher releases junk too!

I bought this game (original-off-the-shelf) and went home to load it up. Installed great and when I went to play it... it would not work. I am serious! I spent hours going through the readme files with a fine tooth comb and they will tell you in the same file that THEY KNOW the game will not run with the majority of sound and video cards on the market. I patched the game and even installed it's included safe mode drivers (Yes it comes with a safe mode version- so what does that tell you!) and it still didn't work. I patched it- nothing! Wrote customer support and they said that they are aware; and I quote, "Like yourself, we are very disappointed at the problem you are experiencing and are working hard to correct this". So the bottom line is that they realeased this product loaded with bugs. It is a waste of money for people to buy it!

Don't bother

This is the latest in a line of boring 1st person shooters that attempt to approximate war. You will spend much of your time with Iron Storm reloading saved games. Many levels actually require you to die several times in order to reveal where the bad guys are. Save, get shot, reload, takeout sniper, repeat. How is this fun?

BTW, enough with the game reviews by people who couldn't get the game working. Your computer ineptitude is not relevant to the rest of us.

Save your money

This is bar-none, the worst first person shooter I've ever played. The software was actually released with a catastrophic bug and won't start with out the download patch. Graphically, the game is weak and unimpressive. I realize that it's built with a new 3D engine, but still; I expected more. It's rated `M' but I really don't know why: the gore is quite tame. Game play is slow and the objectives are rather unintuitive (I was stuck a number of times and had to use an online walk-through).

The storyline is weak at best and the ending was not worth playing for. I would suggest you save your money and get a better / more stable 1st person shooter. (For me, a couple great ones are; "Return to Castle Wolfenstien" and "Soldier of Fortune II".)

Game suffers from serious functionality flaws

Ignoring the last reviewer, I will most certainly share the problems I've experienced thus far with this game. If I could give the game "0" stars, I would in a heartbeat.

My system exceeds the minimum listed requirements for this game (My NVidia TNT2 card is specifically mentioned as being supported). In fact, it exceeds most of the recommended requirements. I have not been able to get the game to work at all. After running the intial video introduction, the game crashes and returns me to my desktop.

Attempts to contact technical support have not been successful. A check of the user forums on their website reveals that many, many people have experienced similar problems with no support from Dreamcatcher.

I've loaded dozens of similar games on my pc without any major problems. Not one problem with Medal of Honor or Delta Force.

Never have I experienced such a lack of customer commitment than I have with Dreamcatcher. It is almost as if they know they've released a bad product and are too shadey to acknowledge it or make any serious attempts to do anything about it.

I strongly recommend against purchasing this game. If you want a fun military FPS game, go with Medal Of Honor, Delta Force or something else more reputable.

Save yourself money and lots of frustration.

"Computer ineptitude." Bah!

serious design flaws

My computer exceeds system requirements for the game and I could barely get passed the intro screen before I got kicked back to my desktop. I tried reinstalling without any positive success and have neither the time or energy to mess with patches or customer support (based on earlier reviews it sounds like it would'nt do much good anyway). No, I think I will just return this "game" and avoid future Dreamcatcher titles.

Horrible. Simply Horrible.

I thought the premise was interesting enough to warrant picking this one up out of the ol' bargain bin.

That was a mistake. Save your money for something better, like, say, elective exploratory prostate surgery. Without anaesthetics.

I wasn't expecting great graphics, or even gameplay, really. The engine is pretty dated, and doesn't look like it was that great to begin with. Enemy AI wasn't too bad- slightly reminiscent of Half-Life, the way they used grenades. What kept me going was the story behind the action- I was simply interested in seeing how it was executed, and how it would unfold.

Sadly, IronStorm crashed to the desktop after fifteen minutes of gameplay, on the average- sometimes much, much more often. Maddening! Patching didn't help. I also found that patching it eliminated cheat codes and trainer access (I was playing for the entertainment of the story, not the twitchy shooter thrills). IronStorm still crashed all over the place. I gave up on the "alternate history" and thought I'd give the multiplayer facet a try.

Interestingly, I didn't seem to encounter the crashes in multiplayer, but still found it incredible that the multiplayer spawns players with no weapon selected! You've got a crappy default pistol, but you have to always select it at spawn, or you're defenseless. Add that little gem to the usual mix of spawn campers on public servers, and it gets really irritating in a hurry.

Bottom line: It had a lot of promise, but it's junk. Sorry, Dreamcatcher, you've published a nightmare. This game stinks.

Iron Storm: Horrible

I first heard about the game on a gaing website and thought it would be great. Basically, it's an "alternate-history" game where world war one has been raging for 50 years. When I finally got to Target and bought it, I was excited. When I installed and started playing it, I wasn't so excited. As soon as I started it, the game quit on me and went to the desktop! Aaaaarg!! I was finally able to get a good patch, but it screwed up all the movies! I wanted to give the game a good score, but the gameplay is awful.There is no life-meter so I can never know if i'm about to die or not. And it's so frickin hard!!! It's as if 1 guy can kill you with a shotgun if you're not quick. The only good thing I can say about it are some of the weapons. The game is really realistic. You can only carry 4 guns at a time, and 1 sword. The only thing about weapons I hate are that in some missions, you must drop all of the "good" weapons you have, like a sniper rifle and a machine gun or a rocketlauncher whatever. Here's a tip, always try the demo before you buy the game. I should've done that and saved thirty precious dollars.

Ironstorm - 50 years of WWI Combat Shooter

I was very compelled to write a review regarding this game. This 3d shooter stands above the rest of the games of its type by rewriting an alternate history for the story plot. The game asks the question: "What if WWI never ended and instead continued to be fought in the trenches for more than 50 years? Spanning from 1914 to 1964, Ironstorm combines all the weaponry and technology from the WWI, WWII, Vietnam era and other unseen inventions that would have been created if WWI did in fact continue on for so long. The graphics of this game are superb and the background lanscaping makes the feel of a worn torn alternate era. The sound is decent and the gameplay is good. The player can alternate from first person 3d shooter view to a 3rd person view. The game requires much more than just run and shoot up the baddies. In fact it requires quite a bit of crawling around and infiltration. There are no cheats for this game available except thru a downloadable trainer. I only gave this game 3 stars because it is very clear that 4X stuidos and Dreamcatcher co. rushed this game to the stores without testing out all the bugs just to make a quick buck. In fact the newest patch 1.02 does not fix most of the major bugs but it does fix some minor bugs for those people who experience game crashes if they own a usb keyboard or mouse. But even after installing the newest patch, the game will still crash back to desktop everytime (1 min of gameplay before it crashes). Another problem that I have experienced is a sound problem. Sometimes the gameplay will be choppy and the sound for the game will be nonexistent if you hit escape and try to save your game. It really is disappointing however to see such a great game with a good concept go to waste because of so many bugs that have yet to be corrected. My advice for those people who are thinking of buying this game are:
1) Wait for the next patch (current patch is 1.02) and hopefully the game crashes and sound issues will be corrected.
2) Wait until the game comes out with a newer version at retail stores.
3) Wait until this game drops in price. Current price I purchased it for was 34.99. Maybe the game will lower its price even more because of the gameplay issues.

Gameplay = 5/10
Graphics = 9/10
Sound = 5/10
Value = 6/10

Plenty of flaws but still a good game.

It is a good game. I've taken an interest in alternate history and that's why I bought this. First of all, I noticed the name Dream Catcher appearing when I started the game. I was a bit nervous because I played From Dusk Til Dawn which is also Dream Catcher and it was so horrible I stopped playing. In this game, you play as Lieutenant James Anderson. World War 1 never ended, lasted for 50 years. The character models are ok but they're nothing special. The graphics are excellent. There is also great atmosphere. You see bodies and wrecked tanks on the battlefield, even old fashioned cannons. Now onto the bad things. There are bugs. In some levels you can get shot through the wall by enemies. You can barely aim the rocket launcher at the enemy helicopters(not a bug but pretty annoying). Plus the game is very difficult, large waves of enemies can kill you in a second. I hope there will be other alternate history games but hopefully with less flaws. That's not to say this game is not worth getting but the problems need to be fixed.

It had potential....

I really liked this game the first time I played it. The graphics are good, the battles are fun, and it is really challenging. The second time I played it however, it had lost almost all of its fun. This is one of the most scripted games I have ever played. The same things happen in the single player every time you play because the AI is incredibly scripted. The gameplay is diverse, but it just has no replay value at all. The multiplayer is quite bad as it is very laggy and the maps are not good at all. If you played a demo version and want to play the rest, then by all means buy this game, beat it, then sell it. If you have beat it once, you will never want to play it again. The developers could have made it so much better by just trying to make the gameplay a little less linear.
