Are some of you people NUTS?!!!
How can you POSSIBLY go crazy over this game and give it blazing reviews?!
What do you really like? The annoying as hell camera angles?
The horrible PS1-Resident Evil style dialogue???
The fact that you can never be too camoflauged or quiet enough for enemies and your seen in seconds, with no chance????
Could it be the history lessons that you MUST sit through? I swear in 2 hours of straight play you MUSt bore through an hour and a half of mindless chit chat and bad video!!!!
Is it the sega genesis style AI enemies???
You people are so in love with MTS series that you are fooling yourself with this crap!
Its almost degrading and humiliating when someone is watching you play this game!
It is more annoying than trying to remove a splinter you can hardly see but feel is there! Wake the heck up guys.....
PROS - Graphics CAn be good in some levels....
thats the only PRO.....well that and you can rent it to see how bad it is for yourself.

Ha!,
Some stupid fool actually went and gave this game a bad review cause he couldn't function without his radar. Yeah maybe your just unskilled? No? Then you must just be idiot. This game is great don't listen to what anyone says if it's negative, the only is only thing that was wrong with this game is it's so good it leaves you wanting more. But thats where stealth camo comes into play, by the frog hunting is by and far the most tedious thing you will ever do, get a sandwich and a six pack of beer and some smokes. To get the Kerotan Codename and be stealth takes alot of doing.

I felt that the bosses came a bit too quickly one after another, and the boss characters themselves were horrendously stupid(except for the end(exquisite sniper battle in the jungle really unique), and whats up with this BIG BOSS's teacher is a women? What the hell!? I'm all for equality but come on, special forces and special operations in general have never and will never be something women partake in. Any women who dissagrees with me should go to Ft. Bragg and prove me wrong. Women can do most of the jobs men can, but not all. I know one women firefighter and she herself states that women in general should not do a job just because they want to try and be better than men. The fact is we're different and equal at all. If we were equal we would be the same but were not. Lets put it this way in a fight between a man and a women unless special techniques are utilized there is no way a women will be able to knock out a man. Now that is not to say that some of the professional women boxers couldn't knock out most men but in general the outcome is obvious. And to note were taking the top of their league pro women to beat up some Joe who is trying to get his beer from the crowded bar.

The best video game i've played...EVER..

The first time I played Metal Gear Solid, I was stunned. I thought every aspect of that game was perfect: the story, the cut-scenes, the voice-acting, the gameplay, the graphics (there was no PS2 back in 98). I was shocked. I couldn't believe a game could be so realistic, and so interesting as well. That is, until I bought MSG3 a month ago...

I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear series, and MSG3 made me even a bigger fan. This game is so perfect. Every aspect of the game is flawless. The story, the sound, the music, the voice-acting, the graphics...EVERYTHING!..when I finished it for the first time, I couldn't believe it. Since I bought it, I've passed it 5 times, and it just keeps getting better and better.

The game is better than most movies I've seen, seriously. The story is awesome. There are no plot-holes, no unnecessary cut-scenes, none of that. I even screamed, and had to reach out for my smokes during some cut-scenes. It's so intense! The best part is that everything makes sense after playing the game. Now I fully understand MGS 1 & 2. Now I only have to play Metal Gear and Metal Gear: Solid Snakes, in order to understand Hideo Kojima's 'almost-non-fictional' world.

Anyways..if you haven't bought this game...BUY IT NOW...it's worth the 50 bucks. In my opinion, it's the best game out right now, on any console, since the first Nintendo. But then again, i'm not into pointless shooters like Halo 2...you'll have to play MGS3 and judge for yourselves...

MGS3=10/10

Amazing

This game is plain amazing. I got my PS2 this Christmas and this was one of the games I got with it. My friends had told me it was a good one so I checked it out. It's awesome. The storyline is incredible and you can tell much thought was put into the game. The Boss's, all with a particular power are also pretty fun to beat your way through the game.

The last part of it is amazing but I'm not going to give it away. It had me on the edge of my seat, awesome game.

Graphics are awesome to mention.

Great Game

It is a great game. Very nice graphic and very intense. There are few minor problems, such as camera angle. In this version, Konomi made the game a bit pretty by tiding the camera angle, so you can see the landscape. In other words, you are not viewing though a pure top-down view. This comes in the expense that you can see futher when you are traveling from south to north (bottom to top), but your view is extremeley limited when you travel north to south.

The story is bit too heavey handed. All these fictional peace is abit too fiction. The premise is about that the world used to be whole during World War 2 but during the Cold War, the world has splitted -- thus very sad. That is, of course, a very inaccurate description, as World War 2 is a very divided peroid.

This is a must have game for the PS2 system.
The game is practically flawless, nearly perfect.
Of course no game is perfect, this is the closest thing to perfect there is.
And the best thing about the game, is that it's fun!
Not a game for gaming rookies though.
I was suprised to see a few people in the reviews complain about how it's hard or impossible to be stealth/not seen in this game, therefore lowering their rating on the game.
I myself along with other veteran Metal Gear players have no problem with the stealth aspect, in fact it's better!
It is entirely possible (and not too hard if you actually try out different things/ways of getting around) to not get seen at all or barely in this game. If you try and blow right through the game, i could see how it could frustrate or annoy a casual gamer.
Anway, this was the best game to come out in 2004, and a must have for any gamer, casual or not.
Kojima has done it once again.

Hideo Kojima has done it again

All widely expanded environments, selection of weapons, survival techniques, added controls are what really make this game come to life. Similar to other Metal Gear Solid games, the storyline is very emotional to the point where it shows exactley why Snake has grown to be the legendary man he is today. All blood and tears he sacrificed for his country generates the respect he gained and uncovers recent mysteries about the other games as well such as: who is the boss, who are the patriots, what Snake did that made him so famous?
While the story is good, the cinematics include awesome fighting and combat scenes to just simply show you Snake's brutal, dangerous, and impressive methods of fighting.
The graphics aren't perfect, but the water, environments,
and blood are well-done. Along with those abilities, the camoflauge system works surprisingly well to hide and sneak around to gain an advantage over guards.
The gameplay is a lot the same with even more feautures,
however, there is no radar, even though it may seem harder, and it is, it makes sense because this takes place in the 1960's and technology like that is very rare.
Now, with animals added in, while they look decent, its stupid how they turn into powerup-like icons that you collect.
Also, the animal's A.I. is pretty bad. They do act as they do in real life such as how an alligator stands perfectly still next to a pond, waiting for its prey, but if you attack it, sometimes it will attack you but only if your really close, otherwise, it will just remain there.
The sound of the forests, trees, make you feel as if your outdoors in the wilderness. The voice overs are good and bad, David Hayter(voice actor of Snake) still does a great job lending his personality and talent to Snake, but people like Vulgin and some guards are too over the top and phony.
With the new "Survival Viewer" screen where you can heal your characters, is realistic, but it seems you are switching back and forth as with camoflauge many times that it gets old.
Overall, this doesn't dissapoint and all this is my review so, this game needs to be played under your eyes and I strongly recommend you try this.

One step from awesomeness, settles with mediocrity

Ok, Ok, I recently purchased a new PS2 for two reasons- GTA San Andreas, and Metal Gear Solid 3. I loved the first two MGSs, and was looking forward to the third. Salivating for it, actually. It looked so cool, and it is cool. I couldn't wait to sneak through the grassy jungles, pounce on my enemies, and enjoy a tree frog lunch afterwards. This game is beautiful, the concept is great, the story is actually enthralling, but there is one huge, HUGE HUGE problem with it...

In order to pounce on, or even just avoid my enemies... I have to be able to SEE him first! MGS 3's traditional camera system set in an outdoor environment plus the lack of radar is the worst thing to ever do to the series. I've been tempted to open my PS2 and hurl the disc across the room because I kept running into guards. I'd even be hiding in the bush for what seems like an eternity, finally waiting till I thought it was safe to move, and get captured by an off-screen guard who I had no idea of knowing was there. This is the ultimate failure of this game. The subtitle is "tactical espionage action" but I find it infinitely easier to just run past the guards, or shoot them all and their reinforcements... doesn't this defeat the whole point of the game? And even then, if you play it like a shooter, it has a really cumbersome targeting mechanism- it's harder to kill someone with a rifle than in Grand Theft Auto sometimes! I also own an Xbox, and was blown away by Splinter Cell and SC: Pandora Tomorrow. Its dynamic camera angles and focus on stealth are what appealed to me, as well as its realism. I know MGS's characters are supposed to be goofy, but I just felt more spy-like playing Splinter Cell. So.. I'll just say that I'm waiting for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory to come out so I can truly play another "tactical espionage" game. I really wanted to love this game as I have its predecessors, but when I spend a good amount of time yelling at the TV, I'm not having fun-

The Camera ruins the experience...and some other things.

I am never this picky about my games. If its fun, I like it. But in this case, the camera ruined parts of the game for me.

Before I make a list of complaints, let me first praise the game on its finer qualities. I have never before played a game in which I got so involved. I would obsess over stealth. In some instances when I was playing cat and mouse with enemy guards hidden in the woods, I would sit for ten or fifteen minutes try to find them. I found great joy sneaking up on unsuspecting victims and interrogating them or slitting their throat on a whim. I would watch with amused fascination I shot a guards flamethrower and see him explode into a firey ball. I would blend seamlessly into my surroundings and dissappear. In one level, I was completely surrounded by snipers, with no idea where they were, until, after I few minutes of looking through my own scope, saw the glint of the sun off one of the snipers scope. Priceless.

Dispite all this, the camera angles were god-awful. Too many times I would realize the guard I was stalking was RIGHT in front of me because the camera wouldn't show where he was. I really cannot discribe how bad it was.

Another thing that irked me slightly was the ability for your character to heal himself. Its a cool concept, but the way it was done took away from the game. You can perform surgery on yourself right in the middle of battle, which I thought was rediculous. And say you had been shot five times, you would only have to remove about two bullets. Minor details, I know, but I thought it was stupid.

The most dissappointing thing in the game was the bosses. I HATED THE BOSSES. This game would have been SOOOO much better without them. They were too comic-bookish. The game faces you off against a angry hornet throwing guy, an invisible guy, a guy in a wheelchair, a guy who sends ghosts to get you, and an astronaut(?) with a jet pack and flamethrower. I hated the bosses.

All in all, the game is great...If you can deal with bad camera angles and stupid bosses. It's a great buy.
