Metal Gear Solid 3

So everybody played the first Metal Gear Solid and bloody loved it. Then a few years later we were introduced to Sons of Liberty. Overall the game was awesome. They could have thrown in a whole lot less junk (ie. long, drwan out movie clips with more than enough information...) And don't hate Raiden. He wasn't that bad, and I think the whole concept of bringing in a new, "fresh" character is sweet. And now we're all looking forward to Snake Eater. So far, It looks stunning! The 60s. The jungle. No more right angles like 1 and 2. And hopefuly a lot less useless video...

Looking forward to it!!!

I'm really looking forward to this game, but to be honest, I didn't know about it until this afternoon. I browsed through all of the action games and saw Metal Gear Solid, and was hooked.

To be honest, again, I have never played a Metal Gear Solid game, so I might not be 100% correct with what I'm saying.

I saw some screenshots and read countless synopsis' of the game and it sounds like the best and most real game I've ever seen or will ever play.

Can't wait for this to come out, It looks amazing, and it seems like the maker has a great history of success.

I guess I'm beimg somewhat of a hypocrit because I'm rating this game before it comes out (I hate people who do that), but this game looked SO GOOD I couldn't help but voice my opinion.

All I can say is that I'm DEFINATELY, DEFINATELY buying this one, hands down.

Amazing game.

This Is My Review that I had on the video game board on amazon.com:

Ever since 2001's lackluster MGS2, which featured amazing graphics and production values, but one of the worst story lines in a game ever, alot of gamers including me were wondering where kojima could take the series next. Well it's been a long three-year wait, but rest assured, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater blows away MGS2 in terms of everything. And best of all, you play as Snake for the whole game.

Now first you might be asking, it's 1964, how could this be snake? Well, this isn't necesarly the snake you've grown to love, it's the real man known as (*Spoiler*) Big Boss. But he's not Big Boss yet. (*end Spoiler*) You start out by going into this forest area of Dremenju (spelled wrong) to save a scientist by the name of Sokolov. You have the usual codec to talk to the man in chard, Major Zero, and to the lady that saves your game. You also talk to a guy named Signit, a weapons specialist, and later on, a charecter known as EVA. I really don't want to give much of the story away, but it wraps up the MGS Trilogy timeline very well. And yes, according to everything I've heard, this is the last game that Kojima will make, but not the last MGS game. There will be a MGS4, but don't expect it to have "Solid" in the name. Now I'll go into detail on the game:

Graphics: In a word, amazing. I didn't know that the Ps2 had this much capibility left. I say right now that this game wins for best graphics of the year in a console game. Even over Halo 2. Everything is rich and wonderful, and a few times you might even feel that your looking at a movie rather then a game. This is the first MGS to really feel like it's a movie that your playing. I say very very outstanding.

Sound: Sound is another wonderful improvent in this game. The forest really comes to life with wonderful sound, and even a few key BOSS battles you need to use sound to help you (one in paticular, I'll discuss a bit later).

Controls: CQC has to be the best improvment in this game, over anything else (well besides not playing as Raiden again). Now by pressing the 0 button near an enemy, you can grab him from behind. Now well holding 0 but not pressing to hard on it, you can press L3 to interrogate, Square to shoot him or to hold him hostage and shoot other baddies, or hold 0 down hard to slit his throat. There's a few more moves you can do as well, but I don't want to give them all away. Very amazing and I'm very impressed with how it turned out. I hope the next MGS game has CQC (Close Quarters Combat).

Gameplay: Now here's where I can talk about another thing that comes off super high: the Bosses. The Cobra team just outdoes both teams from the other 2 mgs games. They are simply badass. The boss battle with "The End", a over 100 year old man that can kick your ass at sniping, is one of the, if not the best boss battle I've personally ever played. IT takes from an hour, to an hour and a half just to beat him. It's played out in a huge part of the forest, and you have to use all your skills to find him. "The Sorrow" was the most disapointing boss battle, because you never really fight him, but that's all I'll say. "The Fury's" amazing fire visuals are incredible, and the best fire I've seen on PS2. "The Pain" and "The Fear" are 2 bosses that were equally badass, but not insanly difficult. Treating your wounds is another new added feature in which you have to open up the start menu, and treat any wounds such as gunshot, deep cuts, burns, and bone fractures. Sometimes it can get repetive, but it's worth it. Another new feature is hunting. It's damn fun hunting for food, specially when you get the thermo gogles. You can eat snakes, birds, fruit, mushrooms, elk, the list goes on and on. Every animal either tasts good, great, or not so good.

Beef: Now here's where I will discuss the letdown(s) of the game. First of all, I think it's time that the MGS team abandon's the old camera. The partial top-down view just doesn't work well anymore. I'd like to see it go "Splinter Cell" style on us for the next game. The camera does get in your way alot, specially at the final boss battle against "The Boss". The only other minor beef is that most of the bosses where quite easy, leading me to fight them only once ( I beat the game on normal), and fighting Volgin 5 times is very repetive.

Overall, we could very well have the game of the year here on our hands. Sure, most the mag's are going to tell you that Halo 2 is game of the year, based on it's popularity. I haven't reviewed Halo 2 yet, I will, but I can say that if you cut away xbox live online play from it, it would get a very low score from me. From what I've played on the campaign, it has a terrible quickly thrown together story, and playing as an elite sucks ass. Reminds me of MGS2 disapointments... But alas, San Andreas will really be a fight for my award of game of the year, a GTA has never won game of the year, and I feel that it's time to win it this year. But back on MGS3, it's a must own. It took me a good 18+ hours to beat, and it's about 10 hours longer then MGS2. You will want to play through it again, as I am starting to do. Definitly a must own game.

Final Score: 96%

Quite possibly the best PS2 game...ever!!!

Before you read this review, I want you to know that I haven't been playing Metal Gear Solid for long; I was introduced to Metal Gear Solid 2 just last year, so I'm almost totally new to this...

First, the story...
You play a solo operative named Jack, but his codename is 'Naked Snake.' This is because he almost always starts a mission with no food, weapons, or maps; he's naked. Anyway, the story starts off where Snake HALO jumps out of a military plane and lands in a jungle in Russia. His mission is to rescue a Soviet scientist and escort him back to America before the Russians can complete his new invention; the Shagohod (or Metal Gear, if you like). I'm not going to give away anymore of the story, so let's start the review...
Oh, and don't worry if you're totally new to the Metal Gear Solid series. You don't have to be a Metal Gear Solid player to understand what's going on.

In terms of graphics, this game is ASTOUNDING!! The graphics are gorgeous, and the gameplay is always smooth; no stopping and going. Nothing in the game looks blocky; everything is nice and smooth. The lighting and textures are very realistic.

Gameplay is awesome and fun. You have to avoid camouflaged mines, swinging logs, electric fences, and try to not be caught by patrolling dogs. Enemies hear small sounds more easily than in previous Metal Gear Solids, and the Alert level doesn't go away when you go to a different area (even on Very Easy!)

CQC (Close Quarters Combat) is incredible. You can interrogate enemies for valuable information, like the frequency to call-off Alert Status, or even the best way into an enemy base.

The realism in this game cannot be exaggerated. You have to hunt for your food, which eventually goes bad, and you may have to perform surgery on yourself if you break a bone or get shot. Also, you have a stamina bar. If it gets to low, your hands shake when you aim, and your overall performance gets lower. You use your array of camoflage patterns to hide from enemies; if you have the right camoflage, and you're lying in the grass, the enemy can be an inch away from you, and they won't see you...just as long as you don't move! You can also get leeches if you stay in a swamp or river for too long. You can get food poisoning and be bitten by venomous snakes!

Now for the bad stuff. Since there is no active radar, this makes it really difficult to determine whether or not a nearby enemy has turned around and walked away yet.
THAT'S IT!!

I might've died three times in the beginning, but, over time, you get better and better at it, until you're pratically a pro!

I like Halo 2 and games like this, but I seriously think this is one of the best games ever!! I suggest you get this game before it's gone!!!

Oh! By the way, the game is called 'Snake Eater' not because Snake eats snakes, it's the mission name; he has to stop the Cobra Unit from causing World War 3.

Hint: "When up against The Sorrow, don't forget about your dentist..."

A true work of art

Why did I rate this game the way I did? Let me tell you. It's not a perfect game, but...

1. Awesome graphics; some of the best I've ever seen on the ps2.
2. Amazing music and sound; turn up the stereo because the sound is intense and realistic
3. Neat story, on par with something from James Bond, minus all the new technology.
4. Sweet dialog; Calling your support team when you are wearing different camo or items, especially Sigint, can result in some unexpected and funny dialog.
5. Smoothe gameplay, controls.
6. Challenging, but not impossible. This game requires you to sneak around, not fight every enemy, because if you get hurt your life doesn't come back fast. Sneaking requires you to crawl, because running through the woods, no matter what camo you wear, will cause too much distraction.
7. Great replay value. I've played it through once and beaten it, but had to give it to my friend. Now all I want is to give it back and play again and try different things in the game.

Overall, I would suggest this game to anyone who has some patience for sneaking. This game is not for folks who only love Quake or Unreal Tourny games.

Peace

DEMO-PLAYED THE DEMO!!!!

Got the demo the other day, and i can not stop playing it. BRILLIANT!!!! There is so much to do its a shame the demo cuts you off after awhile. Lets start out with the graphics. They are far and above what MGS2:SOL is, and thats saying a whole mouth-full. Kojima captured the jungle so well its amazing, and with surround sound it really throws you off some times. Also the new camoflauge index is a great help (for all you wanna be snipers out there, the SVD Sniper rifle and the 95% camo rating make for some GREAT times.) to sneak around. The camo in your backpack is a variety and helpful.
There are a host of weapons to choose from so far. The great thing of all of this is the realism, bottom line. Your cloths stay bloody if you get shot, your sonar gives beeps that the enemy can hear, your supressor wears off making your shots from the tranq gun louder over time, and if your crawling and a bird flys up from where you are at they come and look. Being in the jungle gives you a wide selection of how to dispatch your enemy, also gone is the one two kick combo of MGS2, and in is the great CQB system(Close Quarters Battle) Now snake plays like a real tough guy, insted of a pansy who just got put on the job. The knife is great addition to your arsenal.
Get excited people its less then a month away and its going to be amazing. With so many games releasing so close together its going to be hard to decide where to spend. This is one that is a must have.
Enjoy!!!

Wanted to love it

Loving the first 'Solid' games, I figured that the third would be a shoe-in. Sad, sad, sad...

The camera has become a problem, and its very hard to plan your stealthy movements across the wide spaces of the jungle. However, theres no real point in being stealthy, because you can stand out in the open, be pulverized by enemy fire, and only lose a tiny fraction of your health, even on the Hard difficulty.

My main gripe is the controls and the sluggish frame rate. Snake just doesn't want to do what you want him to. Combat has gone from intriguing to frustrating, and it wasn't long before I got tried of trying to shoot and just rolled over people again and again. It wasn't very fun, but it was the only way to knock out enemies beyond the over-sensitive 1st person aiming, and the delayed reaction timing of the CQC system.

Also, many buttons have multiple functions thanks to pressure sensitivity. However, the accident-prone line between one command or another (crouching and crawling, for example) will often make you do something you didn't mean to do. Ducking against a wall has never been harder.

The game does have its virtues. Great graphics, sound, presentation and atmosphere, along with a super writing team. However, the main priority of any game is to make it fun to play, and Metal Gear Solid 3 is incredibly tedious to work with. I couldn't be arsed with it anymore.

Great game but a moron name Samuel Adams is a spolier

Now if your just checking in and have not played this game then do not, i repeat DO NOT read Samuel Adams Review. he types out a HUGE SPOILER OF THIS GAME. HE REVEALS SUMTHING YOU DONT WANNA KNOW ABOUT THE GAME IF YOU DONT WANNA KNOW. PLEASE SAMUEL THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE YOU RETARD, THATS WHY THERES AN EDIT BUTTON JUST BEFORE YOU SAVE IT. anyways this game was just great, the game left me with tears throughout the end of the game. i cried because the game and the story and gameplay was just soo damn good. no more cheezy radar! more realizm. 1964 never had soloton radar. o and one more thing. in metal gear solid ghost babel, why is mei ling there when in metal gear solid 1 he just first met her and was first introduced to the soloton radar. if anyone can help me on this PLEASE let me know cuz i dont want to hear that Hideo Kojima screwed up the MGS story by going back to the past.

Yay! Nov 17th! It's Finally here!....(2hours later)...damn..

Oh I just couldn't wait to get my hands on my Metal Gear. Right after work I grabbed my copy and barreled home as fast as my 4 cylinder could carry me, cursing at every grandma and grandpa on the road for doing 35 in a 35 which is entirely too slow if you are in a hurry. Upon slamming through my front door (which reminds me, did i leave the keys in the door?), I ran to my PS2 and, with some struggle with the celephane, I finally placed my copy of MG into it's rightful place in the tray of my system.

Oh yeah, the opening scene rocks. I won't spoil anything for you though, cause that's just not cool.

The opening got me fired up to play the game, so I had to resist the urge to skip all the yakkity-yak over the radio between snake and the commander. You know, the usual, "hey, as if you didn't know, you are on your own, and here's a few pointers, and you can save on this frequency and blah-blitty-blah-blah." And then, ooooh yeah, i finally got to play.

The first thing I noticed was the lush background of the jungle and the great use of color and textures.
Then I noticed I couldn't move the camera, which really didn't bother me much, seeing as how it IS after all MGS, I guess I was just expecting it to move. No biggie, I thought, so I kept on going.
Then I noticed there was no radar. No biggie, it adds to the realism, plus I could use the challenge. Then I found the radar in my backpak, and equipped it, yay. Problem is, it only shows tiny micro-blips on the radar, which, needless to say, got me shot a couple of times. No biggie, I thought, I'll just have to squint a little harder to see the enemies movement.
And if you were like me, you couldn't wait to see how camoflauge affected the gameplay, so i tried that out. Pretty cool, I thought, when I watched a guy walk right past my without even seeing me underneath his feet. Yeah, then when I wanted to change back, I had to access the start menu every time. This becomes very annoying because the terrain changes every 10 feet. Yeah, I got shot again, cause I got lazy I guess, and didn't feel like waiting the 3 seconds inbetween loading the menu, and then 3 more to get back to the game. Tried to change quickly while pressed up against a tree, which requires different camo, and when i came back to the game, I guess I had let go of the analog, and.....i got shot.
At this point, I was kinda cheezed off. Why didn't the programmers make the camo change in the R2 menu? Why not make the game FUN TO PLAY instead of irritating (a concept lost to most developers nowadays)? Personally, I'm still very interested in the story of Snake, but jeebus, I just don't have the patience for this anymore it seems. And for cryin out loud, they could've just made the camera free moving for once, it couldn't have hurt. I don't know about the rest of you, but a huge thing that kills a game experience is bad bad camera angles, and I for one hate it when i can't see stuff coming (*cough* Resident Evil *cough*).
Well, if I could sit through Xenogears for the story, I'll try and manage with this one.

When will this come out?

In this all new game it takes place in the jungles. The title is currently called "MGS3: Snake Eater" because that's what you do, you eat animals to survive. I was told that this game is supposed to be released in November of 2004, so Christmas shoppers for next year better start pre-ordering!
In this game, you don't play as Solid Snake. The game is going to take place in the 1960's before Snake was even born (or created?). So I am thinking it's Big Boss. The player in the game looks exactly like Snake, because he has the same DNA and genetics as him. Also, one of his eyes I heard is missing?! Anyone who is a fan of the series would know that Big Boss has one eye, even though no one has really seen him in any of the games, (except for Solidus Snake in MGS2, who looks more like him).
I don't know much more about this game but we will know soon enough.
