One of The Best Games Ever

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 3

I Have Had This Game For A Long Time And I Have To Say This Game Is Unforgetable. This Is Better Than "Going Commando" And "Up Your Aresnal" Those Two Games Are Fun But, Not Better Than This.
It Has Good Graphics, Awesome Weopons, And On A Scale Of Easy, Medium, Hard, And Challenge I'll Give It Hard, But Still Fun. Giant Clank Missons That Are Near The End Of The Game Is Cool. Exiciting Hoverboard Races Are Very Thrilling And Unexpected. Air And Space Missons Are Fun And Hard. But The Best Thing Is When You Are On The Ground With A Weapon Shooting A Monster With A Pathetic Blaster When You Have The R.Y.N.O That Takes Them Out In One Measly Second. The Bosses Are Easy From The Start But They Get Harder. I Remember When I Fought The Blargian Snaglebeast It Was Easy. This Game Is Old But Who Cares? It Is A Very Cool Game. This Game Is Like A Compitation Of All Types Of Game

This game is... my god... just the most amazing thing you'll ever see. You must buy it. Let me explain why.
I bought this game yesterday at the mall. I went home and put it into my PS2. And I haven't played any other one of m7 games since. Ratchet and Clank is the totally awesome visual masterpiece of the 21st century. The graphics are beyond belief... and I just started! However, it does get somewhat hard and there are a few surprises. But you can do many things from getting out of a exploding space station, from riding a hoverboard, gringing rails, having battles on top of trains, and defeating bosses. However, even the first boss is really hard. You should buy this game. But if in the game you have a chance to buy a gadget, DO IT. This game has 36 different weapons. Yet so far, I have only about 14 of them. They are things like flamethrowers, blasters, bombs, gloves that shoot killer robots, suction cannons, and more. The reason this game may be hard sometimes is because when you have lots of weapons and you're stuck, one or more will get yoou out of the situation... you just have to find which one. Buy all of the weapons from the gadgetrons as soon as you have enough bolts. But I have to say that even though this game may have its tough spots, it's a must buy.

this game is cooloroonie. It is like.... AWESOMEEEE! It's like... um.... better than eating beans for the first time and farting out hotdogs and paper plates.
But it may not be as good if the hotdogs are Ball Park Franks.

First, to give an idea of difficulty, it took me 10 days to complete my first run through the game, 5 days for the second run to search out all the hidden stuff.

My first reaction to the game was lukewarm, but as time went on, I did find myself getting into it more and more. I have to split the game into two sections: Game-play itself, and the story and characters.

The game-play I'd give a 4. The world designs, mecha designs, and character animations are all top-notch. A lot of artistry and effort went into this, and the animation really shows off the PS2's hardware capabilities. A lot of game makers are going to have to scramble to bring their products up to the bar that this game has set.

That said, it's mildly crippled with the camera troubles that many of this type of game show, where the camera is too busy trying to avoid bumping into the level's geometry to give you a useful view of the direction you're actually facing (though you get pretty good at shooting blind after a while). For example in a first-person shooter, it's a good idea to back into a corner to reduce the directions from which you can be attacked, but in this type of game the camera would then have to penetrate the wall to give you the view you want, so instead the camera stays in front of you, you end up just staring at yourself backed-up into a wall, and you have no idea where the bad guys are. Standing out in the open then becomes a "good strategy," relatively speaking.

Another minor nit is that the controls for buying stuff and inter-level navigation seem to ignore the de-facto standard of the circle button being OK, Accept, Do...vs the X button being Abort, Cancel, Go Back. Instead you get some weird situations where sometimes both O and X redundantly mean Buy Stuff, and it's the triangle button that aborts. And when you're looking at your map, if you're in a level, the X button shows you the missions, but if you're in your ship, the X button launches you off to the selected level so you have to wait for that to load... Nothing that can't be overcome with practice, but then you go back to "normal" game controls in another title and you wonder why everything feels so natural...

The game-play is smooth, though the above camera woes made jumping difficult at times. Also when you're trying to carefully line up a difficult jump, Ratchet has the wonderful habit of fidgeting and glancing over his shoulder and basically acting like a sugared-up 10 year old... When Clank looks around he's cute; Ratchet interferes with navigation. Also when you die, there are times when you're taken back to a place way back in the level, which is not so fun. This is balanced however by the fact that there's no limit to the number of times you can die - the only thing you have to worry about is wasting your ammo before dying, if you're in a place where you're brought back somewhere without the Galactron store. Once you figure this out, this reduces the stress of the game quite a bit ("What's over here?" "I dunno, let's jump off the cliff and find out!").

The plot is nothing to write home about: the bad guy is bad, so rampage in his general direction, and kick the butts of everybody you see along the way. And although you are technically free to travel to any system you've been to, you often need the next gadget to do anything when you get there, so the overall flow of the game is basically linear. However, you get some wild-enough weapons that it's strangely entertaining to go back to old levels just to kill the bad guys in increasingly creative ways...!

The mini-game stuff like the Hoverboard races are also a well done change of pace, in an RSI-inducing kind of way.

Now the characters. I hate Ratchet. He's just this total...er...well anyway I hate him. Maybe twice during the entire flow of the game did he display any personality traits that make him in any way appealing. It must have taken some effort to assemble a character so stubbornly unappealing, as I can't really think of any other game characters that actually interfered with the enjoyment potential of their own games. It's like they took every irritating character flaw of every trying-to-act-cool Disney kid character and stuffed them all into Ratchet. (A rather impressive feat, in its own way...)

Clank however is great! (:

The incidental characters are otherwise acceptable, so with Clank being a 5, Ratchet being a 1, and the rest of the cast being neutral, overall I'd have to give the characterization a 3.

Overall:
Pros: Graphics & sound. Game-play. Interesting puzzles. Clank.
Cons: Camera. Ratchet.

Bottom line: Definitely worth a play, if only to learn what your PS2 can do, and to see Ratchet drown in molten lava. (:

Yes, I'm sure the developers are trying to make the game (In quotes) more "Mature" by giving it a Teen rating and uping the adult content, possibly dirty humour? Or it could just be the violence, but this looked like a promising Platformer for our younger gamers, to enjoy but looks like that can't happen. Anyways, the game looks great, looks like Jak and Daxter in space with a wonferful amount of weapons (And somewhat bondish?) gadgets. Grapics look very good and fluid for somehting like the PS2 (Even though Xbox would be better.) Looks promising.
