This is an excellent port of the Ps2 version and includes the cool geo-mod engine. but it falls short on gameplay, THERE ISN'T ENOUGH, it will only take you a few sittings to complete this game, but it does have upsides!

The geo-mod engine, which was almost completely ignored in the first one is back and better, including several missions that require you to alter your surroundings.

If you're sick of other first person shooters, give this a try, but try before you buy.

I just want everybody out there to know that this game will allow you to use a USB mouse and Keyboard!! This is a major complaint I have had with the Playstation 2, (the only one!), that Sony put two USB ports in the system but really does not let gamers use a keyboard and mouse for most FPS. Why?! I do not think it would take much programming to map out the buttons on a keyboard. Oh well, let the mistakes of the past be forgotten if this trend continues. To all of you out there who do not mind playing FPS with the regular controller scheme, you are better than me but I find it frustrating.

good game

basically the game is all about killing a guy named sopot who's a ... dictator with the heart of gold, well not gold more like ... i dont know. anyways you get several teamates all of which help you through most of the missions. i only have the demo from the playstation magazine but i do get kill lots of guys. another cool thing about this game is the debrie(?) that flies around when bullets hit the wall, kinda like the matrix. the geo-mod is also improved, which means you can blast through basically anything. so im gonna give this game 5 stars. so ... buy this game when it comes out and i guarantee you wont be dissapointed.

Red Faction II should definetly be PS2's FPS. Geo-mod, new team based gameplay, its now 4 players, and it lets you play with a keyboard and a mouse. Pretty cool.

The first was great...This is better!!

In the first game you played a miner in a mine on Mars. You are treated badly. When your not in your suiut or bed another miner is. So you decide to revolt. You plan it and you must execute it. It combined the use of Geo-mod technology, special vechicals that can alter surroundings, with great weapons. All this is just in single player mode. In multiplayer mode you and one friend can battle against four bots in several terrains.
This game is a step ahead of what I just told you. It is a more strategy based game, don't get me wrong you still get to pull out the guns and kill a few guys. There are also double the number of weapons. There is even an improvement in multiplayer mode, it is now FOUR PLAYERS. Now you and three of your friends can fight it out. I think this game is great!!! I give it SIX STARS!!!

RED FACTION 2 V.S. HALO AND TIMESPLITTERS 2

Now, as an extreme RF2 fan, I waited all summer for this baby. Since my sis' works at blockbuster, i got it early.
GAMEPLAY: So far, the gameplay is very addictive and unorthodox unlike the first. You get anything you want in the game, sometimes you find out your inventory holds weapons that you never even knew.Fun and gory, much better than TUROK. GEO-MOD is still there, more sufficient and better than RF1.
GRAPHICS: Cleaner than the first faction and no slow downs in multi-player. TIMESPLITTERS 2 was a little crude on the graphics. RF2 is a XBOX game on PS2 in my opinion.
SOUND/MUSIC: The sound is perfect, smart [...] remarks and high tech noises, screams, yells, and shattering glass. NOW HERES THE DOWNFALL to the game, the music. Its not the sappy danger music in HALO, but safe and pointless music in RF2 or, Calypso.
MULTIPLAYER: Three words, NO SLOW DOWNS! You got that a lot in the first one, but since the graphics are better, you don't get any of that, so don't worry about it.
OVERALL: i'm gonna stick to my 5 out of 5 grade, because, it wasn't the beautiful graphics or weapons, or disgusting music, but the GEO-MOD! this is the only game with it, and this is what makes it fun! You can make your own bat caves, or holes in the ground so the bots can fall in them, this game is perfect! THE BEST GAME FOR PLAYSTATION 2 THIS SEASON!

I would give it 10 stars if I could. Best PS2 game to date

I am very picky when it comes to video games... I am an addict, but I have to say - I picked this game up yesterday and I was absolutley blown away. It was very smoothly graphically textured and the controls were unbeilveable. I must say I rank this up there as now my favorite PS2 game. There is a rain scene that blows away any graphics in any PS2 to date (when your outside and the hail and rain are coming down. You also have the option of holding 2 guns at once...) The sound is also TOP NOTCH! My wife was even impressed and she hates video games... MUST HAVE!
Take it from me, you have many weapons to choose from and an elite team to help you through your missions.Lots of fun

Factioned Out

When I first heard about Red Faction 2 in the making I was excited, however now that I have had my hands on the game I was a bit let down, there was no cool rigs to drive, though you do have a chance to pilot a suit of armor, and sub, the rest just ride along and shoot. Also in the multi-player you were not able to make carnage out of the levels, the levels were tightly squeezed together leaving no real secrets in the enviroment.

The game did extend from some points of play like holding the guns and throwing a bomb, however I think it lost some of its transformation into this remake, I think they were so bent on making it better, that they forgot what made the first game so good, and that was the ability to destroy enviroments, not just on one player, but on multi-player too.

So while this game is a good rental, I would not buy it, I would stay with the old Red Faction game.

Beware of your responsibilities!!

Man is this game for filling, except upon finish!! All areas excel!! The game play is Innovating for great realism and for the minor mimicking of other titan titles to cover a cross platform of player's approval. Such as similarities of the rechargeable shields in "HALO" and the multi-featured weapons like "Half-life". Minor consumption of redundant slaughters, kept me a high level of anticipation all throughout. The Revamped Geo-Mod engine rocks and will keep me eyeing for the release of RFIII. Be carefull not to burnout your ps2 from over use.

The Good, The Bad and Something or Other...

Red Faction 2 is a somewhat better game than the original, but the way the game is laid out reminds me of Half-Life (which is a disappointing FPS). The graphics are much better and are quite spectacular. The character models are also exceptionally done for all characters. I do like the addition of double-handed weapons. The environments are quite spectular -- and visually quite realistic. The multiplayer arenas this time are also well-done in my opinion. They levels remind me of the game "W.A.R." in the arcades. Lastly, the cinemas are quite a show.

Now to the really ugly part. This time though the story is not as involved as first. You are not pulled into the storyline per se in first person. The team-based concept is still not quite developed per se. Lastly, motivation in continuing is lacking after the second part.

Overall, this is a better than average game. However, unlike the first, this game functionally is much better as a multiplayer title than the first. For the first Red Faction, you are pulled into the story as a FPS.
