Worst Game I have ever played

This was one of the worst games I have ever played. I warn you DO NOT BUY THIS! The graphics are horrible they are like PS1 graphics. I like the Halo controls where you use two joysticks but I hate the fact that the controllers are inverted. Overall this game is a 0.1 on a scale from 1 to 10.

Disappointing, at the least

I was, as well, a big fun of red faction.
I agree with most of the other reviews... the game just plain.... What i do not understand is that everyone seems to appreciate the graphics - I though graphics on red faction 1 were much better. Not to talk about the dialogs, some very poor attempts to introduce humor in the game - annoying from the very first time you hear them, not to talk about having to listen to them over and over. The screams of dyig soldiers resemble more a parody - i can see the guys cracking up while recording those.

Alright THQ, let's get real.

What were they thinking? It has little next to nothing to do with the Red Faction, which what was the original was all about. There is no real POINT to the game. and with all the twists and turns, you don't know if you're the good guy or the bad.

And if all this isn't bad enough, they make it short. you can beat it in a two day time span. This is not worth [$$] I can assure you that much.

While the game is somewhat fun, it is basically a different game. It only slightly mentions Red Faction a couple of times. You see a character or two of the Red Faction, and that's about it.

The game doesn't take place on Mars either. That was half the thrill of the other one. You don't really know what your going to run into in mines that are underground in Mars.

The geo-mod in this game is okay, but there is a lot of mesh wiring under most surfaces, making it impossible to pass through.

Rent this before you consider buying it. It will save you a heart attack wallet wise.

This should have been much better

They did some things right that need to be done more often, like the controller setup left joystick moves forward/back strafe left/right, dual weapons with separate firing, dual weapons in general are good separate firing is something I had not seen before, use of grenades without switching from your guns to them, (kinda like halo), and the geo mod thing is interesting but was never a selling point for me on this or the first.

These improvements are very nice but they do not make up for its flaws, they seem to devolve from some of the best things red faction one;

Playtime and challenge
The length of 2 is much shorter than one, one took a full week, and was challenging the entire time, 2 was beaten in less than 2 days and the only challenging parts were some of the bosses, which only you had to try it a couple of times before you killed them, and the final boss was easier than the boss right before him.

Story
The story of red faction one had all sorts of twists we kept thinking we just have to do this next thing and it will be over but no it kept a step ahead you and unveiling some new segment just when you thought you were done, two has the one predictable plot twist. In 2 you are the invincible soldier whose duty is to kill everyone he sees, and this is your main goal throughout the entire game. In one you have diverse goals which usually had killing, just as a necessity for trying to get there alive.

Gameplay
In one there were a number of places where you could not kill all the enemies and it was suicide to try, in 2 while you are constantly being told the building is about to explode you can nonchalantly hunt and kill everything you encounter. In 2 you are called a demolitions expert but you are really a grenadier, in fact the controlled bombs from red faction one are replaced with automatic timed ones in 2 and you just loaded with explosive weapons, you could use only grenades and rockets through just about the entire game. The Mission objective in 2 is to kill sokov and then molov, you might as well be super assasin, oh yes there are side quests they tend to be destroy all vehicles or something else only the invincible Alias(god that's a stupid name) can do. The levels which had been oddly shaped tunnels are gone in favor of completely straight roads and square buildings.

They took what I thought were innovative ideas in red faction, and forgot about them to make yet another fps whose only innovation is improved graphics. They should have called this something else since it has pretty much nothing to do with red faction one, other than have the politcal "radical" group called red faction which couldnt take over a lemonade stand, yet everyone acts like they are some dire threat, and this political group has nothing to do with the red faction miners that were in RED FACTION one. It should have had a name that was accurate like "Nano Soldier" and then I wouldnt have been quite so disappointed, but then it wouldnt have had any hype for being a sequel and would have had to stand up on its own, and admit to being another drone in the faceless pantheon of first person shooters.

I want a REAL sequel to red faction

Uhhhh......................wut happened?

First things first red faction 1 blows away dis game. This game has an extremely short single player, hard to follow plot, and is NOTHING like red faction 1. Now ur tryin 2 stop some dictator named sopot but the plot wuz so boring i dont kno WHY they were fighting against him. Thers no ultor, mars, parker, none of it. Just some weird group of elite soldiers fighting against dis guy sopot. The single player wuz SO boring dat it took me almost 3 months to beat it......and no not cuz its long. I played dis game for bout an hour or 2 when i first got it then shut it off. Then after 3 months i piked it up again and beat it, but the only thing dat kept me playin wher the guns. Its cool havin a grenade launcher/machine gun lik the rangers in black hawk down hav. But otha than dat dont buy dis game. If ur dat intrested in it rent it......youll beat it in dat week anyway.

The Game is about as good as the art on the box.

I should have listened to my first instinct when I bought this game. I thought: Look at this art on the front.. it's [bad]... the game is probably just as bad. I like the Graphics, and I can't even remember the music, I never played this game more than what.. three times? And that doesn't mean all the way through. I think I played halfway through and then let it collect dust. The characters are lame. The storyline has little if anything to do with the first. The first thing I noticed about this game was the weapon the first character has. I took about 10 direct hits to the head to kill the first enemy I encountered, who was all to easy to hit I might add. I don't remember him doing much more than standing in one spot and shooting... maybe I have a bad memory. Then I tried out the secondary fire... a grenade... sounds cool eh.. well I like a LITTLE realism in my games... This grenade.. I think you get like what 20 rounds of em or more? kills with one hit. It destroys those specific little areas you are meant to and usually have to destroy. It also has absolutely no arc whatsoever. NONE. Fire this baby up into the air and you'll never see it again... In the last game I loved how you could fire a rocket into the air and it would come back down to earth, angling rockets over the huge Sniper style canyon arena in the last game to hit your opponents base in the side of the rock was awesome. This game blows in multiplayer as well.. I quit after less than a minute of checking it out. DO NOT BUY OR RENT THIS GAME... seriously..

Total disapointment

I couldn't be a bigger fan of the original Red Faction. It was also a highly rated, well-respected game in the gaming community. So why the game designers decidedly to completely change the format is a complete mystery to me. Instead of being a lone fighter occasionally joined by others (who usually didn't do much) RF2 has you as part of a squad, and the other members get to do the fun stuff (one's a sniper, one's a pilot, etc.), so much of the game plays itself. Also, the game pops in so many enemies one after another, it seems like a simple shooter game like Houses Of The Dead, or whatever. It's just ludicrous; the original was based in realty--there were a finite number of guards at given scenes, for example. Not this game.

If there was no Red Faction to preceed this, I'd have given it a better review. The grafix are cool, and the celeb voices are neat. But this game is not only confusing re: game control and the like, the worst part of it is it's just DIFFERENT than the original.

Original was better

Red Faction 2 didn't seem to be as good as the original. There wasn't an auto-aim option so it's hard to hit your enemies, and the levels seem a lot less interesting compared to the original.

ok...

this game is ok. it's a lot like Unreal tournament or unreal championship. i hate the controls for this type of game on ps2 though, the joysticks are too close and are too sensitive. this game is kinda fun though but you die way to quickly. i mean you get shot only twice and you die.

Graphics: 6 - disapointing for ps2

gameplay: 7 - fun but repetitive and boring at times

wepons: 4 - i hate the wepons in this game! there's like 1 or 2 good guns.

in the end this game is pretty fun but i suggest cheacking out unreal championship on xbox, but if you dont have xbox look at unreal tournament 2003 for PC.

Spiffed Up Graphics, Redone Weapons, Less Emphasis On GeoMod

Plot:

First thing's first. The plot is very different from that of the orignal. The basic idea is that a team of nano mechanically augmented super-soldiers attempt to overthrow the evil dictator Victor Sopot (with the help of the Red-Faction that it). But after that the plot goes on from there. I did not like the plot as much as I did the orignal, there is little emphasis on the actual Red-Faction (but enough so that you know that the game is in the Red-Faction series). But the Story Mode is not this game's strong point.

Graphics:

The graphics have been updated from the orignal with good results. No complaints here.

Sound FX/Music/Voice Overs:

The SFX in this game is, in my humble opinion still very good. With Many of the same sounds you heard from the orignal. No Complaints.

The music is all techno and adds to the background of the game. Listen closely and you may hear music from the orignal. No Complaints.

The voice overs are much like the same in the orignal (just like all of the other sounds). I found that one of the charecters is done by the same person who did Eos from part one. No Complaints.

Multiplayer:

This in my opinion is the game's strong point. There are--as the back of the case said-- over 40 levels but that is in total. Certain levels are only for certain game modes (Bag Tag, Arena, Deathmatch, Keep-the-Bag, Regime) but that does not take away from the quality of multiplayer.

But there were many changes from the multiplayer game. The Geo-Mod is excruciatingly limited. Meaning you can't make trenches, crevices, hidey-holes, fox holes, tunnels, niches, drop-holes, canyons, caves, caverns, stalagtites/mites/columns, traps, craters, nothing. You can only swiss cheese some of the walls here and there. The weapon tactics have changed also (for the worse). In the orignal you could fire aan FRL into the air where it would hang in the air over your enemy for a small amount of time and then drop with a massive explosion. In this edition, you can do this but the timing and the angle of fire must be positioned exactly, at that point you have to compensate for the time it takes for it to drop on the target (approximatly 13 seconds).

"What Should I Buy Then?"

If you want a game that has a lot of replay value in either modes of game modes, then RFI is for you. RFII Will bring some entertainment but it is recommended only as a rental.

My Average For This Game: 78%
