Ok, first off a ton of different planes to choose from as you progress, intense and dramatic dogfight action between some of the best fighters of WWII. One of the best features of this game is the ability to slow time down while the piolets adreneline is pumping so you get that great bullet time effect where you can aim better and slowly take out your enemy. Tons of missions in some great locations and great graphics. Plenty of space to fly around in so you dont feel restricted. Other modes like instant action are great so you can just free play shooting planes down. Overall this is the best airplane game ive played in a long time. Definite pick up.

the best air to air combat ever

Look, im an old plane freak and i know a good flight sim when i see 1. this game takes the cake. The game of this caliber deserves more credit then some of these losers i know who say this game sucks. its the best historical game u can ever come up too. even some plane historians love this game because its soo accurate on the sounds, movement, and looks of most of these aircraft. basicly this is my most treasured game ever!

Much better than the new Medal of Honor game!

This is a very good game. Much more fun than the new Medal of Honor. The graphics and gameplay are excellent. The levels are not easy, but not impossibly hard either. The controls are confusing at first, but easily learned. The enemy AI is very good. The only drawback I have noticed so far is the ability to fly through tree's. Very challenging and worth the $. I'll definately still be playing this after I finish it the first time around.

Great historical fun.

I stumbled on to this title looking at reviews for "Heroes Of The Pacific" another PS2 title and after reading some of the reviews, their were a several few who also recomended "Secret Weapons over Normandy" so I purchased a copy and needless to say, I think this game is great, it may not be the flight sim, but it is great fun, though the game is no walk in the park, once you get the hang of the controls then the game does take on a whole new meaning, the missions involved are quite challenging, not to mention all the enemies you'll be facing, from downing planes to sinking U-boats this game will keep your eyes focused and your fingers busy, all in all while flying some of the coolest warbirds of WWII, each of the missions contains several of both (Primary) and (Secondary) targets, complete each task to earn medals, aircrafts, and upgrades for them, the only gripe I have about this game is that it doesnt have my favorite aircraft "The Vought F4U Corsair" the war plane of the "Black Sheep Squadron" and even with that small draw back this game earns a 5 star rating, I totally recommend this game to those who wish to go back into history, change its fate and have a great time while doing so.

The BEST air combat game I've ever played

The graphics are good for a game that was made in 2003 or 2004. If you saw this game at Blockbuster and thought of renting it, but didn't, you should go back and do so. You can fly a number of planes, and they are all cool, especially the Spitfire. One good about this game is the circle that appears around your enemies. This saves you the trouble of findng them. All you have to do is follow the arrows and fire when the enemy is in your sights.

Brilliant Fun

I am a real fan of flying games but all too often such as with Ace Combat 04 they are too easy, how hard is it to fire a heatseaker and watch it destroy the opponent. In this game you have to fly the plane, guide your guns and think which targets to attack next. All this said the controls are easy to master and not so difficult that you feel you need a PhD to fly the game.

The graphics are good, sound is excellent and the story line fun, as you progress you slowly collect new weapons (many of them secret!) and you also get to fly a fun range of planes. I lent the game to a freind of mine for the weekend, by time it came to Monday he had purchased his own copy so he could carry on playing.

Overall this is a great game, and i would highly recommend it.

Great Game!!!

When I first began this game, I didn't think I'd ever complete it. However, I soon realized each mission and challenge prepares you for the next. At first I was a little disappointed that the aircraft wouldn't roll. but found out that going to the "Advanced 1" setting provides this feature. I've never been much with video games, but the combination of story line, action,
graphics, and dialogue really puts me "into" the game. While
not completely realistic, I find it to be highly challenging, yet
downright fun and exhilerating. I hope LucasArts and Totally Games will make the bonus missions exclusive to "Xbox" available
to "PS2" and other platforms. SWON has captivated me for hours of
pure enjoyment.

Pretty to look at, pathetic to fly.

I read as many reviews of this game as I could find. Most described it as "arcade like". That is an understatement.

Now I have been playing Lucas games since the days of Battlehawks 1942 (circa 1988) and Their Finest Hour (circa 1990). They were really fun to play and they were as realistic as could be reasonably expected at the time. SWON is neither. The flight dynamics are laughable. I know it wasn't made to be a flight sim. But how Lucas Arts could honestly put their name on such an inferior product is shameful. They have so much experience creating flight-based games that this acts like something that could pre-date Intelivision. If it weren't for the graphics this game would be almost worthless.

I do wish to commend Lucas for the narrator and the music. Fantastic! The combination does give the player a History Channel feel of the game. Unfortunately the game gets silly after that. The main character, Chase, is so busy bad-mouthing his flight instructor you wonder if he will turn coat and start fighting for the Germans. The dialog seems to have been written by a teenager with some kind of complex. The in-flight dialog isn't as bad but I found myself too busy trying to figure out the flight dynamics (or lack thereof) to really listen to it.

I have only played the game through a couple of missions. So far, it's about 3 hours worth. It's a shame Lucas Arts didn't take this to the level I know they can achieve. It could have rivaled MSCFS for players that don't want a full flight sim but want the feeling of flying combat. Perhaps Lucas should just stick with Star Wars where they can get away with make believe flight dynamics. How I yearn for a game that can rival Ace Combat 4. I was hoping Lucas wouldn't let me down. Alas...

Pretty cool

I just got this game a few days ago and it's pretty fun so far. I am on mission 3 and have completed the first few challenges as well. Graphically it could be better but it's not bad either. The plans fly too "arcadey" for me though. I like the way the plans fly in "Heroes of the Pacific" better. But the plans so far are pretty neat. I am new to the WWII plane battle type games. There doesn't seem to be too many of them though. If you find this cheap somewhere and are into WWII fighterplane games, I recommend it.

Buy It

I thought this was an excellent game, good story line. It isn't Microsoft Flight Simulator, but for PS2 the control of the plane is excellent. It is a lot of fun to play. A game worth putting in your collection, it's in mine.
