Best game since Deus Ex

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 7

This game has a great story, awesome game-play, good music mix, and a perfect atmosphere. The time it takes to get through the single player game is substantial which is good considering how annoyingly short some games have gotten.

The game reminds me a lot at Deus Ex even though it doesn't make you feel like being as cool as Deus Ex does.

As far as the relation to Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, I recommend reading or listening to that book before playing this game. Lots of elements link to the book very nicely. The game will make Ayn Rand look crazier than she really was because during her time, the social aspect of communism and fascism was very real.

The only annoyance so far was that it took me a few tries to be able to install the game. The install has a problem with the fact that process explorer was used at some point after your last reboot but I found a small tool called hidepe100 which will allow you to play/install the game without rebooting your computer by hiding the sys file. This is where 2K took Ayn Rand way too seriously and treats their customers as looters.

Restores my faith in the gaming medium: my DUTY to give it 5 stars!!

PC gaming has sucked lately, imo. I've grown tired of games copying other successful games and watched sadly as originality and passion for game-making seemed to disappear more and more. And then came Bioshock. This is quickly shaping up to be the best game I've ever played, and I've been playing games for a long time now. The sheer originality of the world, the incredible voice-acting, the beautiful design style, the amazing pacing, the fantastic story...THIS is what gaming should be. THIS is what games should aspire to. It truly is like being a part of a film, helping it unfold. It's just totally and utterly addicting.

I'm truly sorry some are having troubles, but there are ALWAYS incompatibility issues with PC games. ALWAYS. Check the forums of any game out there. For me, I've had ZERO problems with this game. I'm playing on a system I built myself, with a GeForce 8800 and an Intel quad-core, so that helps. The frame rate is beautiful, there are no crashes, there are no problems whatsoever. Just absolute gaming bliss.

I can only hope this game reaps the financial success it so richly deserves, because only then will we see other companies taking chances on such amazingly original ideas. I can't praise this game enough, honestly. It is just absolutely stunning and a real victory for people who want an adult game that's been made with passion and care.

Beautiful game

Everything about this game is fantastic: the art, music, sound effects, story, character acting, you name it. I only purchase and play fps games once a year at best, so I'm not as neurotic about the nuances of the game design; as a result, this one is exactly what I look forward to when I decide to purchase one of the hot new titles.

I enjoyed the the mix between acquired weapons and 'building your own' by using the genetic modification technology that allows you to wield fire, electricity, telekinesis, and a variety of other enhancements. But most of all the game has a fantastic atmosphere, it effectively keeps you on edge as you go deeper and uncover more about the mysteries of Rapture.

I have an AMD X2 3400 with a geForce 7900 GT, the game ran flawlessly. I installed on WinXP, no strange crashes either.

I was initially hesitant to purchase because their were numerous complaints about bugginess, and some limitations in the game design. I found neither a problem. Don't hesitate to buy!

very challenging!

Game plays well. A very fast machine is a necessity as it will not play well otherwise. It has its difficult spots, but you rarely have to "start over" a level.

Better second time around

There are so many facets to this game that it is much more enjoyable when you approach it the second time. You understand more about the plasmids, physical tonics, camera et.al. to use them effectively in game. Also, the end of the story is effected by what you do in game so choose wisely.

Amazing with a few problems

First, I must say that I have had no crashes in this game, and I have played through the entire story once thus far. Second, the story is great, if a bit heavy handed on the ayn rand-isms, although, to be fair, there are not many games that attempt this sort of depth of story. Third, the plasmids are a great alternative to the stocks, although the animations could have been a slightly better. Fourth, the enemies can be somewhat so-so, but combat is overall fun, especially when you get creative with the plasmids. Fifth, I found the ending quite disappointing, this being the only true criticism I have of the game. Last, I found the DX10 graphics amazing, I am not sure what some of the others reviewers are talking about.

Finally the spiritual successor of System Shock 2 is released. It is an excellent game. Great story. Excellent atmosphere. Excellent Graphics. Excellent gameplay(on PC.) I had high expectations for this game and it met all the criteria. The score reflects the game. Now to the negatives. While the game itself is near perfection some say that the DRM on this game is invasive. First let me explain that SecureRom is not a rootkit. It is obnoxious that they did not label the game with its inclusion but I blame that on 2K games and not the developer. The second thing is the limited installs. They are creating a tool so you can reinstall as many times as you want as long as you uninstall. Right now it is possible to install five times. In the future 2K games has said they will release a patch the removes most DRM features. Don't let people scare you away from playing the best game of this year.

One of the Best shooters I've ever played!

Like Half-Life (1 though Episode 2), BioShock has the style and gut "WRENCHING" action only the very best shooters have. Unlike Half-life, This game make quite a bit of sence at the very end. It does not keep too many secrets.

This is not to say Half-Life is a bad game for leaving more questions then answers. On the contrary, it a running series, and it secrets need to be kept to make the game worth playing. I get that.

Still, By the end of BioShock, I really loved my stay in Rapture and decided to make another go at it. this time being nicer to the little girls.

Fluid game concepts, this is what really drew me in, It wasn't just run and gun, I found my self using the Plasmids alot more then the firearms total. Finding combo's and getting Quick Big Daddy kills was entertaining as well.

One last thing, ab out the Big Daddies? if you never played this game before, Watc out, they look slow and bulky, and thats where they get you, they are quick as sin and if you piss one off? you'll be in real trouble if you don't have a plan of attach before you go pissing them off...

Hall of Famer

This is by far one of the best FPS single player games released in a long time. It brings me back to the original Half-Life and the effects that had on my gaming experience.

The scenery is amazing. The plot line is fun, intriguing, and interesting. The graphics are phenomenal. The game play is just downright fun and refreshing! The action is edge of your seat at times but not overwhelmingly stressful.

Great game!
