Addicting, challenging, gripping, runs on my notebook!!!!

People who say this game glitches or doesn't work must have computer issues. I run this game on a HP DV9000 custom Notebook and it runs great. I run at 1280 x 800 widescreen and it looks flawless. I use the onboard GEforce GO 7600 graphics, 4gig of 5-5-5-15 ram, 250 gig of dual SATA 7200rpm HD. I run the game at full-out high everything and it is completely smooth, never drops frames, glitches or hangs. My OS is Vista Business 64 and I run a 64x AMD Turion dual-core 1.8x2 CPU.

As for the game, from the first moment of play it's impossible to stop. I would have liked more tacticle fighting (like halo) because you can't find cover and you can't run, you have to fight! I also found that while the amount of ammunition you find is sufficiant (you can buy it at vending machines as well) there are so many types of ammo and the game does not automatically go to the next type your weapon has available. It's a very clunky system and a patch would fix it. Also, you have to pick everything up manually, this becomes tiresome. Otherwise, on to the good stuff.

The graphics are brilliat art-deco. At first they seem to get repeditive, but part-way through the game you release a gas into the air that cleans everything up and gets the plants growing, suddenly the enviroment is lush and colorful!

The story is, well, I have no idea! Played about 1/3 through and I have no idea what the story is! Just keep solving each area, power-up and moove on. The great thing is that this is not a corridor shooter like Jericho, and it is not repeditive and boring like Hellgate! Bioshock gives you room to run about and explore if you need to, though more exploration and treasures (upgrades, etc) would be nice (Think "Patch") because the just thrusting forward all the time leaves a mildly empty feeling.

However, the game does have the added moral issue of saving little girls and massivly powering up, or simply curing them and only aborbing a little power. The girls, though, are clones and considering the limited number (2 - 3 per area) they should have all looked unique. I have no idea what the implications of curing or killing them will be, but I bet it pays off.

So far the best games I've seen this year are Bioshock, Uncharted: Drakes Quest and The Witcher. The worse was Hellgate London (looks nice, but never changes, never goes anywhere, no story, just repeditive.) I think if you like Halo 2 PC you'll be into Bioshock, it's not quite as tactical as Halo, not Quite as puzzling as Half-Life 2.

Simply Amazing

There is a reason that the title was rated/reviewed as highly as it was all across the gaming industry and multiple platforms. The immersion in the game's universe is totally complete right down to every shuffling footstep and hideous moan of despair.

Well worth the cost at whatever price point you find it at, and not to be missed. Turn the lights off and crank the audio.

Morality-style gameplay makes unique and engrossing game.

Where many games give you the option of killing people for your own gain, but 'Bioshock' takes that notion and warps it into one of the most psycological games of all time.

You start of as a survivor of a plane crash; as you make your way into an abandoned lighthouse, you uncover a small vessel which takes you the the hidden haven of Rapture, a once bustling scientific city who is now in ruin. Guided via radio by a survivor, you fight your way through Rapture with an array of gene altering-tonics and arsenal at your disposal.

This is when the psycological elements come into play; throughout the game, you will encounter Big Daddies (the infamous creature on the box) with little girls respecitvly called Little Sisters, who go around and take the gene-altering tonics from corpses. You now have two options: do you save the Little Sister from this horrible fate, or do you kill them and absorb the tonic for your own selfish gain?

Each action you make as a player will affect your gameplay and the game's ending and how your character grows and develops. The graphics are also phenomenal, looking amazingly realistic and in depth(if you have the proper memory card).

Overall, 'Bioshock' is an amazing game whose unique gameplay make it worthy for its title, '2006 Game of the Year'.

This game is very unique in bringing a story that hasn't been done. Game play is brought to new heights along with artistry.

An Amazing Take on Story & Gameplay

This game is a really awesome game. The story starts off with a bang and does not stop during the rest of the game. It continues to keep you on your toes. Graphics are nice. You get more powerful through upgrading plasmids which are the highlight of the game. It really is true that you and your friend will play the game completely different. So many choices make a replay just as good as the first time around. I have had no problems with running it, just make sure you meet the recommended requirements and you should be fine. Have a friend who plays it on a PIV 3Ghz, 7900, and it runs fine. It depends on more than just graphics card and processor though. As for the activation problem, I did not have any problem. But not too good if you do not have internet. I know it will probably make the pirates mad. Excellent game, you have to experience the game of the year.

Bioshock - Bloody Brilliant!!!

I was hopeful, after reading all of the press reviews, that it would be good. But I was blown away! I'm running a Core 2 processor at 2.66GHz, with 2GM of RAM, and one GEForce 7900GT under Windows XP SP2 (so, DirectX 9).

The game runs flawlessly, and smooth as silk, with high resolution and all effect maxxed out. The game looks fantastic, with a beautiful, creepy, large world to explore. It has a solid storyline explaining the weirdness that is the game world. The visuals are fantastic and varied, but the sounds really add to the show; they are creepy, they are gameplay elements (you can hear enemies before you encounter them), and they are incredibly immersive.

I strongly encourage anyone with a midrange system or higher to buy this game. It's worth every penny, then some!

Never Played It...

...But I'm giving it a 5-star rating anyway to offset all these negative 1-star reviewers who have not played it either, but are here just to gripe about copy protection.

If you can trash it without playing it, I can praise it without playing it!

Maybe Amazon will get a clue about rating abuse.

One of the best games ever made. People try to multi-genre it, I think of it more of an interactive movie. Turn off the lights, crank up the volume, take your time and enjoy it. It's about the experience not the high score. If you don't have a top of the line PC (8800gts or equivalent video card and a cpu less then 2 years old), wait till you do or get the xbox version. You want to play this game in the highest graphics settings. It's gorgeous, scary, and atmospheric unlike anything else.

Revolutionary, Engrossing, Amazing Game

To start, I run this game on my home built computer.
single EVGA 8800 GTS 640 Superclocked
4GB OCZ PC6400 ultra low latency
Q6600 Core 2 Quad
Vista Home Premium x64

The game runs flawlessly on my equipment with DX10. Basically maxed out. The graphics are some of the best I have ever seen, especially the water. It literally looks real as you can read from other reviews.

It's not a typical 1st person shooter. Not super difficult on the level of Far Cry, but still a challenge. The world is almost completely usable. There are many ways to do any task in the game. The weapon choices are far too many for me to have used them all. You can certainly choose your favorites and try to stick to them. Great game across the board. I don't think any other game has kept me so engrossed. If you really want to enjoy it as more than a 1st person shooter, you need to keep up with the story and try to play as many dialogues as possible. Good story, multiple endings. I played the game and saved all the girls. Ending was short, but good. Don't know what alternate endings are. This is a DX 10 MUST PLAY in my opinion.

Incredible overall game
