Metroid Prime it isn`t

Just played Serious Sam: Next Encounter on the Game Cube & Metroid Prime it isn't. Serious Sam: Next Encounter is at best shoddy. The game looks very dated and the visuals failed to impress in any way.

There is a certain amount humour contained within Serious Sam: Next Encounter, and believe me you will need a sense of humour as you laugh hysterically at what a bad game this is.

Serious Sam: Next Encounter is without doubt a rent before you buy title.

I like this game

I just read the one review and I dont give this game no justice. My best friend Sam has this game and I play it with him all day. My best friend Sam has reserved Halo 2 50 times so he needed a game to hold him down till he gets it so one day we loaded up in his moms station wagon and went to toy's r us. When we got there I nearly wet my pants when we got to the R zone I was overloaded with Joy so Sam bought the game and I havent stoped playing it since. So I got to go now so peace out dogs.

Try before you buy

My first impressions of Serious Sam: Next Encounter were that the game is
At best average. The graphics don't help much, they look really very dated.
The graphics, they use few polygons and are covered with very simple looking
Textures.

Character design too is ok`ish, some of the original characters from the
Original Serious Sam games are present. In fact, the characters from the
Original PC version, are still the best looking creatures of the bunch,
Particularly the people who run around screaming holding a bomb in
Each hand. Other than that, there are few laughs left in this rather
Repetitive run a round and shoot things game.

In every level there is the same old thing to do. Shoot die, shoot die.
Serious Sam: Next Encounter is a bit of a yawn feast really.

At best, Serious Sam is, all said and done, average.

Co-op mode provides some multiplayer and one-on-one action. `Speed-
Ups' are one of more pointless power up`s to feature in Serious Sam, they're
No use what so ever. The game doesn't get any faster at all???
To sum it up, Serious Sam is a definite try before you buy title!

VERY POOR GAME

Serious Sam: Next Encounter really is the weakest of all the Serious Sam games released to date.

If I were to rate the graphics, then I would give them about 2/10 on a good day. The graphics are too rough to look at for extended sessions, the game features simple textures that you'd expect to see on a PS One game, and not on a next gen console like the PS2 or Game cube. You would think that the lack of impressive graphics might be made up for by good game play, but no, the game is dull and repetitive. It really is quite shocking to see such a poor release as this one.

I would not wish this game on anybody. Take note!

what went wrong?

I am a big fan of the First Person Shooter and this `Serious Sam: Next Encounter' don't qualify. It's awful, it's really bad!!! This game looks so ugly! It really does. You don't have to take my word for it, go and look on the internet.
The game plays slow, why? It's supposed to be chaotic, but it isn't? What went wrong with the PS2 version of Serious Sam??? - If you want Serious Sam, then check out the original on PC version that is as good as it got.

I hope this review has been of help to you all.

Okay

When it appeared on the PC, Serious Sam quickly earned a reputation as "that game with tons of dudes onscreen," and that was a pretty accurate assessment. (...)In Second Encounter, you play as wisecracking Sam, a one-man army who's bounced through Ancient Rome, Feudal China, and Legendary Atlantis. The assault never lets up for a minute, and all the levels quickly strike a familiar pattern: you enter a large room, the door is sealed behind you, and monsters attack from every direction. After a certain number of kills, a door opens so you can proceed. Sam's weapons range from simple twin pistols to a handheld battlefield cannon as he takes on suicide bombers, bomb-spitting elephants, and other monsters bent on Sam's demise. Among Second's auxiliary attractions are vehicles, a Super Combo Killing Spree (activated when you kill 20 enemies in rapid succession), and minimal puzzles that mostly require you to take "item A" and insert it into "slot A." The frame rate holds up nicely with all the onscreen activity, and the slight cartoony look lessens the impact of mowing down dozens of monsters at a time. Although enemies and objects are low-res when viewed up close, you probably won't have time to notice. Of the two versions, the PS2 has an edge over the GameCube-especially with its online play and sharper visuals.

Serious Sam delivers all the requirements of an exciting FPS, and the 20-buck asking price is a sweet incentive. Second Encounter is a shooter with simple requirements: A minimum of brains and maximum of reflexes. You get what you pay for.

Bored within10 minutes

The problem with Serious Sam: Next Encounter (apart from the rather weak looking visuals) is the repetitive nature of the game. I was bored within10 minutes of playing this game, which probably explains why there are so many second hand copies springing up already, even although it has only been out for the past week or so. The price maybe only $19.99 but it really is not worth it.

This is one Play station 2 game that I cannot not recommend.

AWFUL!

Serious Sam does it again, this being the 3rd installment in the SS series. I just had to get it for my PSX2 and its a Total Blast, new weapons and driveable vehicles. With 8 player deathmatch online, no online fees all for 20 bucks this game rocks and is true to form as always with the wisecrackin Sam and tons of enemies to destory while finding secrets and cool stuff along the way. Too bad it was so hard to find in most stores last week, but Sony lists its ship date as 4/29/04 so is it any wonder that only a handful of advance copies were shipped on 4/22/04.

But anyways if you have a PSX2 or GameCube, check this game out, its well worth 20 dollars and then some.

Seriously Flawed!

As a huge fan of Serious Sam for the PC, and the XBOX, I was expecting this to be the all out best sequel! But this really is dissapointing in every catagory. The graphics are not poor, but not good either, but nothing even close to the XBOX version. The sound has alot of samples from the first two "encounters", the new gun fire sound effects are extremely poor, with the exception of the double-barrel shotgun.

Some classic characters return, like the headless kamikaze bombers, but they are animated differently, which wouldn't be necessarily a bad thing, but that's just it, the animation is poor too. There are new multi-player characters, like Suzi Darko, and Silicon Sam.

Gameplay wise this game just doesn't "feel" like a Serious Sam game, control issues, like no crouch, and a very odd controller setup don't give it that arcade feel that made Serious Sam so fun in the first place. Since I have not played it online, I can't comment on the multiplayer, but the single player game will not inspire anybody to go buy a modem and try.

Unless you're collecting Serious Sam stuff, or you don't own a PC, or XBOX, then you might want to try it out, but otherwise don't bother, it's just not "Serious Sam".
