Great Game

Let me say I've beaten all 3 of the Serious Sam Games on PS2 and Xbox. The first one I never seemed to like that much. You know, the first one for the Xbox. It never really held my attention because I sucked at FPS games when I got it so it was one of those take-out-when-you're-bored-keep-buried-in-your-cabinet kinda games. After taking it out like twice every month at the end of the year I beat it and really didn't care for it. I did not even feel like I accomplished something, ya know the feeling you get once you beat a game. When Serious Sam Next Encounter came out it was a different story. In between the time I beat the first one and bought Next Encounter I had become an FPS fanatic. As soon as I saw it I thought:"Great!Another one to add to my cart." I bought it and was amazed once it began playing on my PS2. It had cooler monsters, more guns, better graphics(of course), and more levels(even after I became obsessed with FPS games I still for some funny reason don't like the first Serious Sam for Xbox). The music was cool too(especially for that Chinese temple level). Once I beat it it was back to the store to get enough money for Halo 2. Once Serious Sam 2 came on Xbox I instantly got it as you might have guessed. I just recently beat it(the Cecil level took me a LONG time because he kept blowing up all the rocket devices). Sure the graphics are better than Next Encounter and there's more vehicles and more everything it still didn't give me the satisfying feeling it gave me when I played Next Encounter even though Serious Sam 2 was an awesome game. Sure SSNE may not have all the good graphics, enemies, levels, vehicles, weapons, and to some extent, comedy that SS2 has but SSNE will always have a special place in the heart of an FPS fanatic. I regret ever getting rid of this game.

GOOD WORK!

Now, I'm over 13 but I'm just using this under 13 review thing because it is to much trouble to sign in...ext. Anyway, the game is really well done. The action in the game is awesome! So many aliens to kill and shoot up! The framerate is problably the best part of the game. It never slows down! No matter how many enemies are on the screen, it never slows down. Graphics are so-so. Neat multiplayer. It can have over 8 people at once online. And it is incretibly GORY AND BLOODY!! Althought the violence is cartoonish, blood still goes everywhere. There is even CO-OP! Me and friend were playing this game all night and HARD! Him and I had a blast [note to self: finish it next time he comes over]The game's number of levels are around 32. [the extra 8 levels are the so called 'lost levels'] Don't listen to the box cover, there are only 32. It goes by really fast. The only thing that took away that extra star was....THE NUMBER OF WEAPONS!! 12?! I HAVE GAMES THAT HAVE MORE THEN THAT!!! Buy this game, or rent it. mr.jawsbite.

An O.K. game.

This game is alright, but alot of things are bad about it. First:graphics! The graphics look like they came right out of a comic book! [BAD]
Second:the nosies! Ohhhh, how they make me think twice about play it again.
And finally: music! The music sucks! That all I hav to say.
Everything else is really cool! LOTS OF GORE! ACTION! AND MULTIPLAYER MODES! But for hard-core shoots like me, this not your game. It's to fast and it feels really short. The bonus levels are acually kinda cool. Any way, this game is only good for rental.

A really Good game!

OK! This game does not look the best, but its very fun and controls great. And the online play is awesome! Played for hours and never got tired of it. All the online maps are great. I wish this came with a map editor like Timesplitters did. I bought this game new for only $14.99 and its worth every penny. Now if it was a $50 game then no I would not get it. I never pay $50 for a game anyway. Yes the Xbox Serious Sam 1 looks much better, but it did not have online play. So I don't now whats up with all the bad reviews. It seems to me that most games that cost $20 and below most people hate and think they suck. But I have bought tons of cheap games and just loved them. Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death is another $14.99 game thats great. To bad that game does not have online play. Then it would have been awesome. Anyway, if you have a couple games you don't play anymore then trade them in for this game.

Not a good game, but a tribute to good games 10 years ago

As a certain gaming magazine put it, "This is not a good game, but a tribute to games that were good 10 years ago." Well put.

This game, at best is a weak diversion of your attention until you find something better. There is nothing in this game that actually requires skill. Tons of enemies spawn every time you grab an item, powerup, or weapon, in every room, and when you finish killing the enemies that had spawned seconds ago. The problem is, the enemies are not diverse, not detailed, and stupid. They run at you, and you shoot. Thats it. Thats the whole game. Nothing else, except maybe some simplistic trial and error platforming every few levels. But that doesn't make a game, whether you pay $20 or $5 for it.

Good:
Simplistic, fun to play with another person in co-op just to waste some time, can entertain your younger siblings, and the game doesn't jump out and attack you...

Bad:
Horrible graphics for this day and age, horrible enemy AI, little variaty, bland levels, enemies, and powerups, requires no skill. The multiplayer is also horrible, and single player mode is just as bad: you go from room to room killing endless enemies by holding the trigger and spinging around in a circle, then run into a key (oh so well placed in the middle of the room with a giant arrow above it) and run to the next room to put the key into the sparkling hole. Animation in this game is a joke, so are cutscenes, and voice acting.

There are certainly games worse then this, but not by much. I recommend Red Faction 2 for a much better experiance, or even Halo, both worth whatever you pay for.

WAY COOL!

If you have twenty bucks and you want to kill an afternoon, look no further than Serious Sam: The Next Encounter. The variety of guns gives you plenty of choices for how you'd like to annihilate the swarms of enemies coming at you from everywhere. I especially like the co-op multiplayer, and also the silly characters you can play as. Most of the enemies die in one or two shots, but the sheer number of them makes the gameplay fast-paced and intense. It's no Halo-killer, but it's definitely a good addition to your game library.

Disappointed with this one!

What a disappointment this game turned out to be. I have read various reviews in various magazines and formed the opinion that serious Sam next encounter would be alright. Some magazines rated it 4 out of 10 while others went as far as to give this game 7 out of 10. The reality is, I would score this game about 2.5 out of 10. Sam is very limited in what he can do, it really is all about shooting and little else. The graphics are among the lowest quality I have seen. I cannot image anyone buying this and being happy with it.

A mediocre game...

'Serious' Sam returns in his one man war against Mental and his minions. Serious Sam is a brainless 'shoot anything that moves' game. There are little to no puzzles and your guns do most of the thinking for you. There are some funny parts such as mowing down enemies with a Combine Harvester and watching them get all minced up, and there are some really nasty bits such as the repetitive gameplay.

The graphics aren't the best in the world and there isn't much difference to the enemy. All they do is scream and come at you intend on making your life a misery.

There are classic weapons such as dual Uzi's and the all powerful Rocket launher, and you can actually drive vehicles such as a jeep and for some bizzare reason... a combine harvester.

To rap things up, 'Serious' Sam is a repetitive game which offers brainless gameplay. It isn't the best shoother in the world and some people may not take to it straight away.

THE GOOD THINGS
Fast gameplay
Drive a combine harvester

Guns and gore...

THE BAD THINGS
Repetitive
Lacks brain power
So very hard to like

THE VERDICT: 3 out of 5!
