More of the same is good in this case

If you liked the first two, you'll like this. Some say it's too short, but they must be hardcore gamers with walkthroughs. No game captures the raw disturbing horror of the Silent Hill Series. I'm 34 and the first Silent Hill gave me nightmares and I'm pretty unshakable. If a game can evoke that out of me, the developers either did something very right or very wrong......

EEEEEEEEEVILLLLLLL!!!!

I absolutely loved the game!! Right from the start it slams like no tomorrow. The graphics are awesome, the scenery dark and twisted, the monsters are whacked, and the sound effects spooky. What more could you ask for? If you like it dark, if you like it creepy, if you like it brutal, go buy it. You won't be disappointed. I hope they keep them coming.

What more can be said of Silent Hill 3 that hasn't already been? Yes, it's a worthy follow up to the franchise. Yes, the graphics are even better than Silent Hill 2. Yes, it gets down right freaky at times. However... Yes, your exploring is limited. Yes, there is a thin line between scary and campy with so many monsters running around. Yes, there are unimpressive similarities between SH3 and SH2.

But wait...

If you are a TRUE Silent Hill fan and you have already finished the game, then you already know the secret to Silent Hill 3. You see, Silent Hill 3 does have a plot. SH3 has something in common with the original Silent Hill. Now don't get me wrong, if I spilled it then fans of the game would hate me forever. I will say this: The main character of Silent Hill 3 (Heather Morris) has a connection to EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER FROM THE ORIGINAL SILENT HILL. Got that? As a matter of fact, there is NO connection between Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill 2 at all. Granted SH2 does have a few (very few) clues to solving Silent Hill, but there is no direct connection between SH2 and Silent Hill 3 and the original.

Now that you know that, I recommend playing the original Silent Hill and then playing Silent Hill 3. By all means play Silent Hill 2 just because it IS Silent Hill 2, however, keep in mind that it is in actuality the original and 3 that have the story connection. Okay, if you still don't get the connection after playing the games, the answers to ALL plot connections are in the back pages of the strategy guide. I have to warn those of you who choose to do that before finishing SH3, though: YOU WILL GREATLY REDUCE THE FUN OF UNWINDING THE PLOT ON YOUR OWN!

But if you insist. Here is a clue: Remember Alessa and Cheryl from the original Silent Hill? Well they have a direct connection with Heather from Silent Hill 3. If that still doesn't do it for you then know this...

The game's soundtrack comes with the game as well. Geez! There's just no helping some people.

Freakin' Scary!!!

I had been a fan of the Resident Evil games for years so I thought I could handle this game, I was wrong! Don't get me wrong, I loved it, I just wasn't prepared for the pure horror in this game. This was actually the first game I ever played in the roughly 10 years I've been a gammer that really scared the crap out of me! The gameplay is excelent and the graphics are near pefect. Usually you can only see 3 feet in front of Heather(the main character) due to darknes and a flashlight, so you have no idea what will pop out at you. The 'humans' look real, facial expressions are perfect, and so is the voice acting. Words can't explain the monsters though, except really, really freaky. Everything from demon dog-things, to evil faceless pipe wealding nurses, to giant freaks that have no face and huge heavy stumps for hands. I have two big problems with this game though. First, the camera angle can get in the way and be very annoying. Also, there can be 10 doors in a hallway and 9 of them have broken locks(all the same)! What's up with that. Another great touch is that the developers gave Heather a personality. Rather than just saying things like "I don't need anything here," she might say, "normally I like these things, but there's no time now." Anyway, if you want to play a totaly horrifying game(and haven't played the first Silent Hill, like me) than play this game! Go on, Don't be afraid. On second thought...

Scariest of the three

The detail of this game far surpasses the second silent hill. Part three is the sequal to the first silent hill. You guide Heather through a deserted mall, into the subway, thorugh the sewers, and eventually to Silent Hill, where she must uncover who she truly is. The fear factor of this game is high, so if you like playing alone in the dark, try to have someone with you. It plays with you mind. The soundtrack that comes with it is also a nice bonus. Some cool songs are recorded on it. I highly recommend it, especially if you played the first Silent Hill. The third Silent Hill contains a suprise about what the main character from the first game, Harry, is now doing, and its not what you would expect.

Silent Hill again?

When I first played this game, I thought that this is another Silent Hill game with a new story. Like the first Silent Hill was about Harry Mason when his daughter Cheryl was lost in Silent Hill then the whole adventure began, and Silent Hill 2 which was about James Sunderland who went to Silent Hill town to find his wife. But Silent Hill 3 is in fact about Harry Mason's daughter Cheryl!!

For those who played the first Silent Hill with Harry Mason, and left lots of mysteries not figured out and didn't get the story, this part will be the conclusion that will solve all the mysteries and explain the story which will put an end to all what happened with Harry Mason.

In the first part Harry Mason left Silent Hill with a baby who was his daughter Cheryl reborn but from Alyssa (Who was Cheryl too). This part is about what happens after 17 years!!. Cheryl is now 17 years old. Harry changed her name to Heather? so she wouldn't remember her past, specially when her mother Dahlia Gillespie offered her as a sacrifice (when she was Alyssa) to summon an ancient God in Silent Hill.

Heather will face many monsters and some people talking about the birth of a new God. After fighting all her way to her place, she discovers the death of her father Harry Mason. Which disappointed me because Harry Mason is the first Silent Hill character we enjoyed playing. (Konami should have saved him for other coming parts... if any)Then she goes to Silent Hill and begins another adventure.

The game will disappoint you a little and that's because you won't be able to discover Silent Hill streets like Silent Hill 1 and 2. You'll only be able to visit the Brookhaven hospital for a mission and the Heaven's Night for some supplies, and for the first time, you'll be able to enter one of the rooms of Jack's Inn!. There will be a mission for Heather in the Amusement park which appeared in the first Silent Hill. All this, but it's even scarier than the first two parts. The music of this part always made me push the controller's buttons really hard to escape and never move my eyes away from the screen.

Silent Hill is one of its kind, the stories are based on lots of true facts about some religions and black magic, and that's really scary. The game-play time is short. Some puzzles are really complicated and you might spend more than 30 minutes trying to figure out how to solve it. Only 3 ending types, one of them (UFO) is half way!. I mean you don't have to finish the game and kill the final boss to reach the UFO ending. For the first time in SH history, you can now change costumes and use an anti bullet vest! Another thing to be mentioned is that now you have lots of weapons!. In general - this part will make you disappointed a little as I said earlier, but it's still called Silent Hill, the game that carries you to the world of horror and mystery. Simply, you should add it to your collection of games.

Decent Game, Somewhat Disappointing

I heard a lot about this game...disturbing, scariest game ever. The videos I saw made the game look amazing. It's a decent game in it's own right, but it definitely didn't live up to any of the hype.

First off, this is an amazingly beautiful game. The in-game character models look better than some FMV scenes I've seen. The lighting effects are amazing, and the shadows look pretty unsettling when you're fighting a dog that's lunging at you or the legs of a spider crawling towards you.

The sound is nice, but monsters making the exact same grunts over and over again gets a bit tedious. The main character's voice acting is great, but the other people could have done a sliiiightly better job.

Control is just fine until you have to deal with more than one target in a tight squeeze. You may be aiming at a monster that's near dead on the ground instead of shooting the monster that's walking up to you.

It took about 7 hours to beat the game. And there are some different weapons and outfits you can unlock, so there's some replay value.

Overall, the game feels a bit short and small looking back on it and I was disappointed that it didn't scare me as much as I hoped. What makes this game is the small things (beautiful use of the controller vibration, the video noise effect), but there are some things I would definitely love to have changed.

I wish I could give it a 3.5, but I'm going to try playing on the hardest difficulty level and see if that makes things more interesting.

Great game....but...

I found Silent Hill 3 totally engrossing and amazing! I've never played the other two but I have to say this one sets the standard for me in horror games. Production is what really makes it stand out from the rest. Totally amazing graphics really show off the power of the PS2. The locations are straight out of a Nightmare on Elmstreet movie. Although the game production is great, I have to say the game play itself was a little bit of a letdown. I found it too linear. I would have liked more of a Tomb Raider experience where you could go off and descover things on your own. The voice acting too was a bit disappointing. Especially Heather. Her actions dont seem to really fit in with the rest of the game. The casualness she shows when confronted with frightening situations takes away from the reality of it. I know if I were trapped in an abandoned hospital with possessed axe wielding nurses after me I'd be scared out of my pants and show it!! All in all Silent Hill 3 is a great game, especially if your into horror movies.

Great!

Great game by Konami again. No matter how many silent hills they come up with I will be stading in line to buy it. This game shows of the technical advances that are going on in games. Giving a more close to life 3d environment and great graphics which give the characters life like appearences and don't forget the great story line. Probably the best story line in a game I've had. The best thing about this game is it's ability to scare.

This game is advanced in scare tactics. It's dark environment and its slow moving main character make the frightening much easier because of the speed of the enimies. Plus the un-normal controls make you react differently to surprizes. It uses this concept just as Resident evil does, it adds a level of fear to the game, you hope you don't press the wrong button when the time comes to bash that huge rat thing in the head. Just don't fall of an edge because you can, if your not careful.
