One Of The Best Star Wars Games Yet

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 5 / 5
Date: October 04, 2004
Author: Amazon User

Star Wars: Battlefront may easily be one of the best Star Wars games ever [In my opinion]. It allows you to participate in those awesome, classic battles in the 6 Star Wars films [5, if you count out Episode 3 geared up to release sometime before the summer of 2005], with all the classic sounds of blaster bolts blowing up droids and starfighters zooming around.

Battlefront lets you re-create all of that, with a kind of classic capture-the-flag basis, except instead of capturing flags you are capturing command posts, special locations where enemies respawn from and capturing them will add them to the collection for you to respawn from.

Capturing all of them is how you win...or you can take out every soldier in the army that have "reinforcement points", which is basically how many soldiers are left. The game lets you take control of one of four armies: The Imperials, Rebels, CIS [Otherwise known as Seperatists] and the Republic. Each army has a soldier, sniper, anti-vehicle [Rocket-launcher equipped characters] and pilots [Characters who can fix broken turrets, ships, droids etc. etc.] plus a special class for each army such as Destroyer Droids for CIS and Wookie Smugglers for the Rebels.

The arenas are fun to play in, such as Hoth, an icy planet where Imperial troopers playing are constantly told to blow up a shield generator and Kamino, the planet where clones are manafactured and players can have fun crossing bridges and blowing enemies into water with grenades.

The things that happen in the game are also really fun. For example, when a player is hit by the blast radius of a grenade or bombarded by rockets, players can watch themselves hurtle into the air before hitting the ground and rolling around. For example, in one of the arenas which takes place in a maze, if you stand in the ancient bleachers above it, a well-placed hit can send you flying to the otherside, smacking against the ground or a wall, before rolling down the hillside into the maze.

A very interesting and fun feature in the game is vehicular combat. Remember those memorable games such as Jedi Starfighter where you drove a starfighter in first-person view and just blew up enemies without landing or anything? Well, in Battlefront players are free to jump into their ships straight from the movies such as Tie Fighters, X-Wings, Snowspeeders or Speeder Bikes and drive around in them while blasting enemies plus can steal their enemy's vehicles when they're not looking.

For example, in the Hoth level, Imperial troopers have AT-ST and AT-AT walkers at their disposal. However, travelling across a vast, snow-covered field to a hangar can allow them to grab a Snowspeeder and fly around bombing enemy troops from above, or even tie up AT-AT's just like in the movies. You can even turn on a mode in the options menu where Jedi and Sith alike come to help you depending on what army you are playing as. For example, Imperials gets Darth Vader, Rebels get Luke Skywalker, CIS gets Count Dooku while Republic gets Mace Windu.

Problems in the game, is that it only supports up to 2 players offline, instead of a 4 player capability which would make it more of a party game. I would seriously reccomend purchasing this game, though renting it first would be a better option if you are not a fan of shooting games or Star Wars. Otherwise Star Wars Battlefront is a great game, though it can be finished quickly if you play for a few hours and are experienced in it.

For anyone who has ever wanted to step into the boots of a storm trooper and eliminate that pesky rebellion, or for those who want to crush the maniacal empire, this is the game for you. The game offers two different playing modes: historical campaign - a chronological order of battles from either the original or prequel movies - and a galactic strategy game that gives you the ability to fight for control of a planetary system. While the campaign portion flies by a little fast, the strategy section is certainly this titles major draw. Combined with a nice selection of soldier characters (foot soldier, sniper, jet-pack soldier, to name a few) makes this a wonderfully fun game to play with a very high replay value.

When I first played the game, I was a bit frustrated at the ease with which I died - even playing on EASY level - you can get swarmed if you aren't careful! After a few rounds however, I realized some of the pros and cons of the characters (most notably, the foot soldier has been the best to play with on EASY due to the machine gun like blaster he carries for run-and-gun) and I developed some strategies on how to attack the enemy. But whether you put your skills into destroying enemy vehicles or finding remote locations (in an excellent selection of maps) to peg people in the head, this game will have you hooked for hours.

Recommended for any fan of the Star Wars universe, fair-weather fans and those who enjoy a good sci-fi war - you'll get a kick out of taking over tie fighters, speeder bikes and AT-STs or just running around and blasting Storm Troopers, Sand People, Ewoks and Wookies. JUST STAY AWAY FROM JEDIS, they'll tear you up!

This game is a lot of fun. After getting I dived right in and it is easy to figure out after only a few short games. True, I can't fly a TIE bomber to save my life and my control of a Dark Trooper needs work, but I love driving a AT-AT or a AT-Scout. You can play a short instant action game or play a campaign. Splitscreen allows two players to fight against each other or fight on the same side. And you can always play online if you want. Love the music, cool special effects and lots of replay value. Some of the battles are easy and others are hard but not impossible. The different soldier types mean you can either charge right into battle, guns blazing, or act as a support unit, repairing equipment and passing out extra ammo. Whatever your mood is this game is for you!

I actually took the day off from work yesterday, just so I could get the game and play it for hours (before the wife got home from work).I know, I know, I'm a geek.
Anyway, I've only played it online against other players. It's really a lot of fun. It's definitely a thrill running away, on foot, from another player piloting one of the many air vehicles. Watching him whiz by overhead, sure to attempt another fly-by, you have to really think on your feet. Do you keep zig-zagging between rocks and buildings, hoping to lose him? Do you jump into a turret to try and shoot him down? Do you take aim with your blaster rifle? Do you try to escape on a speed bike? Do you jump into another air vehicle and attempt to battle him in the skies? These are all choices you have the ability to make.
Another choice you have to make is what type of soldier you want to be. You have the normal all-around type soldier, a pilot-type soldier (better at piloting vehicles than the other types), a sniper/sharpshooter, a "big guns" soldier (useful for taking out large vehicles), and then there is the one unique soldier to each faction.
The gameplay is amazing, the replayability is high, the graphics are as good as you can ask for, fun factor is so high, I was actually giggling the first few times I played it. Then again, I'm just a geek.

LIVE THE BATTLES OF STAR WARS!

This is one of the best Star Wars games ever! Why you may ask? Because the graphics are so realistic, the sound effects are awesome, and you can experience the same battles of the Star Wars movies(except for Ep.3). You can fight on 10 different planets: Bespin, Kamino, Endor, Tatooine, Hoth, Geonosis, Rhen Var, Naboo, Yavin 4, and Kashyyyk. You can choose from 4 army factions: the Republic Clone Army, the Confederacy of Independent Systems(droids), the Galactic Empire, and the Rebel Alliance. You can pilot up to 30 vehicles including X-wings, snowspeeders, AT-ATs, Republic Gunships, TIEs, Spider tanks, and more. Each army has 5 different soldiers to choose and respawn from and each soldier has different weapons and abilities. I think its awesome that you can finally be a destroyer droid in a Star Wars game! You are always the top commander on the battlefield and you can have a Jedi or Sith fight beside your troops like the dark lord of the Sith, Darth Vader! Overall, this is an awesome game! The detail on the battlefields are incredible, especially the carbon freezing chamber at Cloud City and Echo Base on Hoth. If you are a big Star Wars fan, this game is definitely for you!

May the force be with you.

A Let down

I bought this game because I'm a gamer and a fan of starwars. I thought it would be fun and a challenge. But instead it was a repetitive and boring. I enjoy the game play, being able to go through and play the missions from the movies. But the game it self is small. There are only a certain number of places to go and theirs no real "missions". You have to complete one of two goals to win.
It was also a very short game. I beat it in about 10 hours of gameplay. The biggest let down and slap in the face of all was the action clips between the diffrent boards. It was just clips from the films. The game is fun and I'll continue to play it when i have the time. But it felt like a childs game or a big advertisment joke, trying to get us hyped about StarWars.

I'm still giving this game a 3, because its fun to play, but not for any extended period of time. If your person who enjoys siting down and playing games for an hour every few days then this game if for you. Its simple and easy, I'm sure kids who are SW fans would enjoy it.
If your someone who likes games with more involvment and longer gametime, then this game is not for you.

Best PS2 online game EVER!!!!!

Although the single player version of this game is fun but not that impressive, that isn't the reason why you should buy this AWESOME game: its all about the online play. With lots of servers out there, you will soon become an experienced player... and then can take it up to the next notch by playing with other experienced, competitive, and very good gamers (HINT: play at night). Its hard to explain how great of an online game it really is, but believe me... its better than any other online battle game i've ever played (including Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942 and Socom I and II).

I have never been a big gamer and I bought this game in February because I had grown tired of it... but 6 months have passed and I still LOVE playing this game. I would recommend a headset which, gives you a more strategic facet of this game.

TWO THUMBS WAY UP!!!!!!!

Just One Giant Deathmatch

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 4 / 4

This game is one giant deathmatch. I'm not saying that it's good or bad, it's just one giant deathmatch. If you love large scale first person shooters where you can play against a lot of other people, this is your game and you should buy it right away. If you want a game with levels, saves, CGI movies, coop levels, this doesn't really have any of that.

The game consists of two groups - Empire versus Rebels for half the game, Republic versus the Separatists in the other half with about 200 to 250 people per side. The battlefield is a medium sized field on different planets with different terrains (forest, beach, desert, ice), the vehicles, of which you control, range from simple speeder to huge Imperial walkers. You control one soldier in a battle until you die, then you respawn and continue the battle. You win the battle by killing all the enemies or capturing their respawn points. The only other control you have is that you can order a few nearby soldier to follow you or stay put. Pretty simple and straightforward.

The single level mode is basically a series of battles, either following the timeline of original Star Wars trilogy or the prequels, or through a galactic conquest sequence that you invade planets and expand an empire. Either way, it's just a flimsy excuse to get to the battle. There is also a split screen mode, but it really is just the same battle.

The main part is the multi player online portion, where you participate with a large number of others. The online portions still suffer from some of the normal online difficulties of this current game system generation. I think you can even set up your computer a server itself (I have not tried it though) for the online portion if you don't want to bother with main server.

This game is awesome! I first got it when it first came out and I still love it. The best part is, it's so realistic. And the different ways to play the game[Galactic Conquest, Historic campaign, instant action]are great too! This is my favorite game ever [I still can't belive how good the Hoth level is]! I really recommend this game.

I recommend this game to everyone. I am a huge star wars fan and have been addicted to it sience I bought it the day after it came out. I know a lot of people who came over to play it and they hated star wars, but they loved the game. The action is intense and packed full of suprises. The vehicle designs are incredibly realistic and overall graphics are good. My favorite level is the Battle of Hoth. In the mission you can pilot a snow speeder like in the movie and protect the shield generator agaainst the giant AT-ATs and hundreds of invading imperials. There really isnt too many levels yet the replay value is more than any game ever! When you are down to 10 clones verses 40 droids in an all out assault, you will fall over from the lasers flying in every direction. If you like action games you will love this game just like me! THIS IS FOR EVERYONE, NOT JUST STAR WARS FANS, and in my opinion, it has more action that Halo!
