Best Tekken in the series

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 8 / 9

This game blows me away. Tekken has always been the most solid fighting game on the ps2 and this one is no exception. The graphics are mind blowing easily one of the most visually appealling games on the ps2 ever. The character models look great and the music fits in more than any of the others have before it. The dumb position changes and different leveled floors from tekken 4 have been smartly removed. It seemed they listed to the users and just added in everything we wanted to see. The customization feature strongly resembles Vf4's in that you can change the colours of your costume, buy items and truly make your favourite character your own. you can then take your character in Arcade mode and raise you players rank and the challenge gets harder and harder. The only thing that keeps this from being perfect is no Online play but it makes it up with the amount of new things in the game. the three new characters in the game are all very differnt from the origional characters apart from Asuka Kazama who is related to Jun Kazama who was killed after Tekken 2 they share the same kind of fighting style and moves that fans of Jun will recognize and pick up on. Tekken 5 has the best roster in the game since tekken 3 with alot of returning characters not seen in the tekken game since tekken 2 (not including Tag Tournament) What makes this even more clever is that they have added Tekken 1, 2 and 3 into the Aracade History mode so you potentially have almost all of Tekken's history on one disk. I think this is a must buy for any fighting game fan or even someone who enjoys a great multiplayer, Tekken 5 is awesome.

of course, i wouldnt know...

I was thoroughly dissappointed by Tekken 4: Sluggish Pace, Boring Additions and nothing really ground-breaking. Tekken 5 surprised me by being an amazing game, what Tekken 4 should have been. The graphics are excellent as is the music. There are ending cinemas once you beat the game again, and as before, some are great, some are just OK, but either way they are all good enough to merit beating the game which each character. The new characters are good, fresh breath of air that help mix it up a bit. As for the returning roster, the old characters have enough moves and enough of a new look to them to make them interesting once again. There aer a slew of extra modes, a Tekken tradition, although it always comes down to gameplay and Tekken is great here. Though nothing is revolutionary, the game has been sped up again which is nice, the silly slopes from Tekken 4 are gone, but not the walls: the good stayed, the bad was weeded out. The game takes a LOT from Virtua Fighter 4, basically the addition of items for your character to wear along with a monetary system to motivate you to win and buy things; also, the arcade feel of Virtua Fighter was borrowed in that fighters also have names other than their character names (such as a "Paul" character being called "GRIZZLIE187" or such). Anyway, the game is great and lots of fun, however I could only give it 4 stars because it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. Instead, it takes the best parts of Virtua Fighter 4 along with the best parts of the Tekken series. The result, is a fun, addictive, satisfying game.

The Best Fighting Game Ever!

Tekken 5 is undoubtly the Best Fighting Game ever! The combination of wonderful strategy, great characters and wonderful graphics make it a must buy for any video game player.

For those for you who have never played Tekken, the game is based on the different fighting styles of different characters. Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses and fighting style. It is up to you to use the character and take advantage of your character's strengths and your opponent's character weaknesses as well as knowing your opponents tendencies in using the character. In a way the strategy in using the characters reminds me of chess, except you often have to use split second timing to take advantage of your character to defeat the other character.

When you get the game you get a certain amount of default characters. In order to get some of the other characters you must win them in battle. For example if you defeat the story mode (winning all the stages) you should get a character the next time you playing assuming you saved everything. You also get to see and hear the story of the character The only exception is with the character Devil Jin in which you have to defeat the game within a game called "The Tekken: Devil Within" or play the game around 200 times before the character is released.

If you like fighting games that demand strategy, has great excitement and has great graphics, then Tekken 5 is for you.

The best fighting game ever!

This game is great! Reason 1, the characters are amazing! Reason 2, the stages are really cool. Reason 3, it isn't painfully long and boring to get money and characters. The graphics are really good too, especially in the ending videos of the story mode. Overall, I can't see anything bad about this game. If you're thinking of buying it, I highly recommend that you do. If you're thinking that this game would be waste of money, I'd recommend that you think it over.

The Tekken continues...

Like a sleek, devastating cruise missile, Tekken 5 streaks onto the PS2 with little advance warning. Who knew that Tekken 5 would become not only a series high point, but also an early favorite for Fighting Game of the Year? Hey, if you were expecting Grand Theft Auto: Halo 2 Edition, that's your fault. Tekken 5 rocks. When Tekken 4 arrived, fans immediately frowned upon the weakened juggle combos and the emphasis on pinning opponents against walls. Tekken 5 casts off those shackles and makes a decisive return to the glory days of Tekken 3. Brian, Paul, and Nina are back to their old lethal selves, the cruel mass nerfing from Tekken 4 just a distant memory. Juggle combos again reign supreme. Wall hits are present but are no longer a constant, overpowering element. The new characters (including the Wesley Snipes look-alike Raven) and hardcore returning favorites (such as Jack-5, Wang and Anna) form a truly all-star Tekken roster. For series fans, this is all incredible news. Of course, some folks won't be satisfied by Tekken 5's incremental but much-needed, tweaks. Players who expect a completely fresh experience here are missing the point. Like Gran Turismo 4, Tekken 5 sets out to right past wrongs and make sweeping but subtle changes to the core gameplay. In these tasks, the game succeeds brilliantly. If it's okay for GT 4, why not Tekken 5? Where Tekken 4 took place in dull locales like airports and parking garages, Tekken 5 showcases some of the most beautiful, creative environments ever seen in a fighting game. One memorable example is the moonlit match set in a vast, shimmering field of dandelion tufts. The character models also look more convincing, as Namco has finally updated the character animations to create smoother, more graceful combos. Tekken 5 makes a few audio strides, too, with explosive sound effects and driving background music that is noticeably less techno-driven than prior installments. Tekken 5 is an excellent game, better than it has any right to be. But the premium bonus content (including arcade-perfect ports of the first three Tekken titles, plus a spiritual successor to Tekken Force) catapult the entire package to "must-have" status. If you missed out on Tekken before, this is the perfect chance to get acquainted. In the end, Tekken 5 is so energetic and refreshing that you have to wonder why Namco saddled series mainstay Nina with the cheesy adventure spin-off Death by Degrees. Judging by Tekken 5's success, the old girl can still stand on her own merits just fine, thank you.

The best Tekken game for all time period.

Clearly, this Tekken 5 is the best fighting game and it is the best Tekken series for all time period based on these points:
1. Graphics are tremendous.
2. Characters are fantastic including some new characters like Raven, Asuka and Feng. Also, there are some returning characters since Tekken 2 or 3 (excluding Tekken Tag Tournament) like Bruce, Baek, Mokujin and Anna. All new and old characters are perfect.
3. Game play is good, not a very tough one.
4. The Tekken: Devil within mini game is a tough game but the graphics are much better than the Tekken force in Tekken 4. Well, it is hard to beat this game but try it.
So, based on these three I mention above. I say it is fantastic. Recommended.

The Last Great Fighting Game on the Playstation 2.

Namco saved their best for last with this, the 5th and latest release of their Tekken fighting games and perhaps the last great fighting game on the PS2 before everyone jumps on the Next Generation of consoles.
The PS2 version of this recent arcade release is simply awesome. The graphics are the best ever on the PS2, with wonderfully crisp and animated visuals, character models and fluid animations. The controls and gameplay are spot on. Only true hardcore nitpickers can see any difference- I've seen and played the arcade game, and there's little missed.
In fact, the PS2 game adds in stuff that the arcade doesn't have- cool CG movies for the intro and endings for each of the 30+ characters. Tekken 5 hits a series high for having the best Story Mode ever- the fighters speak with much-improved voice acting, some even speaking in their native languages, which is refreshing. This just makes the Tekken cast more likeable and alive than ever before.
The other extras are impressive- The first three arcade Tekken games are included in the disc and playable via the game's Arcade History mode. And there's an action game called 'Devil Within' starring main hero Jin Kazama as he battles guards and bosses to uncover secrets from his past. A bit repetitive, but not unpleasant and it gives great goodies.
Speaking of goodies, there are unlockable fighters, hidden costumes and cool accessories and extra colors to outfit your favorite character.

Are there any flaws? Well, there's the incredibly annoying and CHEAP end boss, and it would have been nice to have more accessories and hidden costumes- I would especially have liked to see Asuka Kazama in a bikini. Ah well, maybe in the next game.
Anyway, aside from those little nitpicks, Tekken 5 is the BOMB. All you need is this one disc to have more than half (and IMO, the better half) of this popular fighting series in your hands. A MUST for any gamer. Or, if you're just getting one fighting game for your PS2, this disc can't be beat. Fighting Action par excellence.

A "MUST GET" for all gamers!

Tekken 5 is an awesome game. It is worth the full price! I got it 2 days after it's release, and I am satisfied.

This game features many awesome things such as:
1- Amazing graphics.
2- Over 30 characters to choose from for gameplay.
3- Arcade History Mode, which features the earlier Tekken games for Playstation 1.
4- Tekken: The Devil Within Mode, which allows you to play an awesome 3-D adventure game featuring Jin Kazama, and how hw finds out about his past and stuff like that.
5- An awesome feature that allows you to customize characters. You can change the colors of their clothes, buy new costumes, put items on them, such as guns, hats, swords, and more, and you can change character's names.

Tekken 5 features all of those things, but does not include the ability to move around before the battle starts like Tekken 4 featured. You character is frozen until the ref says 'FIGHT!'.
The last thing that I must praise about Tekken 5 is that even with all these features, the game only takes up 57KB from your memory card, despite the amazing graphics, adventure mode (Devil Within), and with Arcade History, so if you are lacking of space on your memory card, and you want this game, worry not, for this game only takes up 57KB from your memory card.

I recommend this game for all gamers who like fighting games such as Street Fighter, the earlier tekken games, Budokai, Mortal Kombat, and SmackDown VS. Raw. It has awesome graphics (Tekken 5), realistic graphics which show the emotions the characters are showing, and it has aesome gameplay.

Tekken 5 is created by Namco, and is rated T=(Teen) for Violence, Use of Tobacco or Alchohol, and Language.
