A True Virtual World

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 67 / 105

The Elder Scrolls 3 continues the Elder Scrolls tradition of providing a true fantasy virtual world for you to create an alternate life in. Set in the exotic island of Vvarvendell, the developers have truly defined an entire culture, with such nuances as clothing, housing styles, food, and architecture being unique to each game region. You can do anything you want, from running a mercantile business to being a mass murderer. Be a powerful mage living high in your own tower, or be a shadowy thief jumping across rooftops at night. Create your own spells from scratch, concoct mysterious potions, enchant your own weapons. It's totally up to you. In addition to all this, Morrowind ships with the easiest-to-use game editor to date, allowing you to create your own game content such as quests, characters, items, spells, and sharing them over the net with your friends. You can't go wrong with Morrowind!

No 20 stars? Oh well. 5 will have to do.

I can't say that I have played Elder Scrolls 3 but, I have played past versions of the Elder Scrolls series. This game will surely top the charts with computer gaming.

For one, this is truly an RPG. I prefer living stupidly in RPGs. If you see someone running through a gate polluted by guards and then hit one of em, it was probably me. Mess with the the theives guild and have them send a horde of assassins to take care of you? Sounds like a party. Upset an unknown figure and get a couple of bounty hunters on your tail? Living the high life.

This game allows a huge amount of different paths to follow to find your way to the end of them game. I often find myself wishing I saved more often due to the fact that I did something wrong and couldnt achieve a special, powerful weapon. This game allows you to backtrack and change the stroyline.

This is for the RPG people out there. If you played FPSs and wish to go to RPGs, this is the game to do so. If you are a strong FPSs kind of person, avoid this game. If you can...

I am easy to give [money] for a game as high quality as this. I am easy to pay [more money] so I can get it two days early with the Collectors Edition.

If you like RPGs, dont pass this game up. You will regret it.

Morrowind

from what i saw in videos/previews Morrowind looks VERY good.

Will *probably* be my next purchase after Dungeon Siege.

However, one BIG concern:

Morrowind is a single player game - it's hard to imagine playing "single player" again after i have so much fun in games like "Dark Age of Camelot" and other multiplayer online games.

I am sad that they didnt make a multiplayer game out of it... :/

Edit: From all what i know (read the many previews on the net from people who actually *played* the beta/preview already!) this is the mother of all RPG games, no question that i will get that game and a "must have" for every RPG fan !!! Incredible !!!

This will change RPGs forever.

Elder Scrolls Three:Morrowind is going to change the RPG world forever. It has a HUGE world where anything can happen. Not one person will act the same every time you talk to him/her. They might even get anoyed and try to attack you. You can get an assaisans guild after you, but impress them and you will be asked to join this guild. This game has many outcomes and not once will you come to the same ending as before. Personly i think this game is the best rpg that will come to PC and Xbox. If you are a fan for RPGs, this is the game for you, and if you havent already, RESERVE IT.

Morrowind - A game to end them all...or the beginning

I have been keeping track of this game for over a year and if what they say is true, then this game will be a huge landmark for all RPG's. I played Daggerfall when it first came out and I was astounded by not just the bugs(of which there were many) but by the overall life engulfing and unique play. I was so involved in the process of building my character and saving damsels in distress that the constant crashing made no difference.

If Morrowind can deliver the same gameplay(if not better) w/o the bugs of Daggerfall then nothing will hold back this monster of a game from becoming the #1 bestseller of all time. I can't wait for the actual release in a couple of weeks, my wife will likely divorce me(hope not!)...but what an experience this will be. I hope I am not to be disappointed!!

Great Game

I've been playing the game pretty much non-stop since I got it yesterday, It's great fun. The world is huge, there is tons of stuff to do. The only thing I don't like is that it's real hard. Maybe I am just going to places that I shouldn't be at, but I keep getting the snot beat out of me, and that makes it hard to do anything else. But overall, a great game.

This baby needs to fly!!

Heres the computer I ran it on: Athlon T-bird 1.4, GF2 GTS 64meg, 256megs system memory.

How much do I like this game? I just ordered a GF4Ti4600! Max out that credit card baby so this one can fly!

Anyway, on the system above at modest settings and 1024x768 screen res it runs smooth as glass inside buildings. Mostly smooth in wilderness areas of the game. Somewhat choppy in cities such as the glorious Balmora. I bought the GF4 to fix all that. My hard drive is probably a bit fragmented (defrag before installing) so I did notice a lot of choppiness during access but it wasn't limited to this. The HIGH sound setting also caused a lot of choppiness (turned it to LOW and it smooth out in wilderness). I thought the object detail was better than any game I've played. There's so much variety I was looking in all directions. (Spoiler?) I found a ship that had run aground and I just about freaked. The water looked better than expected (much better than GOTHIC) on the above system (GF4 wil better better, hee hee hee). It's great looking down on Odai River from Balmora's city wall - give it a try! The characters in the game are nicely detailed and numerous. Love the funny torches they carry at night. A few favorite things are the weather effects (2 words: sand storm), amazing sky textures (nighttime clouds with star pattern underneath), awesome detail indoors. Morrowind of overflowing with RPG goodness. Just trying out the missions and walking around will help you escape your normal dull life (assuming you didn't just win the lottery or something). Let the complainers play Dungeon Seige or Diablo.

Now, here's the things I didn't like so much. The giant beasts you travel on were striking. However, the travel process is instant. I'd love to travel in real time on the back of that thing. I like realism! I ain't in no hurry! Show me all of it! Also, many of the early creatures in the game are a little disappointing. I guess it'll take time to get to the good ones. Rats, leeches and crabs were not too interesting. By far my biggest gripe has to be combat. Ultima underworld, Daggerfall, Gothic (heck, even FTL's Dungeon Master)...these games got it right. Variety in swings is so important. Also, you need to know when a hit is a good hit. Put a splat of blood and even a number to show how good it was. Something visual! Sound effect indicator too. I also thought the sounds overall were a mixed bag. For example, I didn't like the jumping sound. Most is very good on HIGH setting. Also the music is perfect. Nice job Jeremy Soule!! Reminded me of Titanic or Lord of the Rings.

Well, I'm ready to play some more. This game is worth the trouble. Certainly some of the problems will be addressed in a patch. In the meantime this game is still grand! It's worth upgrading for as it is. When that GF4 comes nobody will hear from me for a looooooooong time!!

Breathtaking beauty!

This is truly a beautiful game. But you better have the computer hardware to truly run this game with all the Prefrences up, Real-time shadows, Viewing distance, 3D sound etc. I started it two days ago, and have been playing day and night. If you buy this game, hit the pause button, walk outside look around for a few minutes. Now go back in and un-pause the game and look around at the sky, the water, and the tress look so similar to real life.

I highly recomend this game!!

This is one of the most imersive games I have ever played. There are near endless ways to make ends meet. There are custom class options as set template and a questionaire you can fill out. The enviroment is imense. The scale of somethings is amazoning. All in all a very tight and very good little game.

Finally!

Well, I brought this tiny box home, opened it up, pulled the discs out and installed the game. I then ran the game and my eyes and ears were then treated to some of the best computer-generated imagery and sound I've ever heard.

This game is sterling. I can't think of a better obscure word to use to describe this game. For a more common word, fantastic is my choice.

Back in 1994 I played a game by Bethesda called "Daggerfall", a game in the Elder Scrolls series. It was awesome. You could create any sort of character you wished using various methods of creation. Upon escaping a dungeon you were free to do whatever you wanted. Want to be a thief? Be a thief. Want to be a noble knight, out to do-good? Do it! Want to sling spells around at evil creatures? DO IT!

Bethesda has topped Daggerfall with Morrowind. The controls are better, the sound is better, the graphics are phenomenal, and the combat has been improved as well. They've expanded upon the idea of doing whatever you want by letting you equip any weapons and armor you want, regardless of class. You can ignore people, run around aimlessly, catch a ride on a silt strider, take a swim, pick a lock, pick a fight, jump around, climb things, go to sea, save people from harm; all without following the story line. There is, of course, a story line, but if you'd rather hunt down scoundrels and turn them in for bounties, you can do that instead for as long as you wish. You can join a guild and learn ancient magical secrets or you can be a loner. It's your choice.

Leveling up is flawless. Bettering your skills is balanced perfectly so that the more and intelligently you use them, the more they increase. Weapons and armor need to be fixed occasionally from all of the wear and tear they take.

If you've played Daggerfall, definitely play this. If you're a fan of MMORPG's, give this a try even though it's not one. If you want a challenge but are used to FPS'es, I might even recommend it to you. The only thing is that you're going to need a STRONG computer for this game. I've got a P4 1.5GHz with a 32mb GEForce card, 256mb of RAM and I'm somewhere in the 40's for framerate at 800 by 600 screen resolution. If you want to run this bad boy at anything higher and keep it above 30 frames per second, you're going to have to upgrade. Adjust your mouse, too, and it'll help in combat.

This game is all around worth every penny you pay for it and then some. The discs are encoded with Macrovision SafeDisc, too, so all those software pirates are out of luck. Too bad. Support this company so that they may bring out more games like this! If you have an X-box, definitely pick this up; the PC version is better, however, since you can make your own maps and dungeons to play or send to friends who have it. The "Elder Scrolls Construction Set" program is a bit difficult to learn, but you'll be making your own maps in no time.

I'd give this game 10 stars if I could. If you can get your hands on a copy of Daggerfall, do so. Be warned, though, it isn't very good in XP. =\
