Great game! Better than the other Mario Kart games!

At first I was a little worried as I played the mushroom cup. Everything seemed a bit too "happy" and cartoony. But as I tried higher speeds and more tracks, it becamse obvious this will be a challenging game - and there are a lot of tracks with very different scenarios. The graphics are amazing in the first ice track. Plus there are many unique obstacles that make every track interesting. On one of the ice tracks there are some shyguys ice skating that you have to avoid - but they also do twirls and flips like real figure skaters. It was funny driving by them. In Wario Stadium you have to jump through hoops of fire and dodge huge pipes with fire spitting vines coming out. And through all the other Mario Karts I was always thinking, why didn't each character have their own special item that they can use? They finally did that in this game and the new special items are great! The fireballs that Mario and Luigi can throw are awesome! Not to mention the huge ball and chains baby Mario and Luigi can hurl. And not all the tracks have a bright cartoon feel to them - on the star cup there is a track where you race at night through a city. There are many routes you can take. Also, the volcano track where you get shot through a cannon and go careening down the side of a mountain is a welcome change of pace. Can't wait to keep playing it!

Tons of fun

I'm a working adult. While I was pretty sure kids would like this game after seeing a running demo at Game Stop, I was surprised that I could actually enjoy this game myself. I got it as a part of a promotional bundle from the Nintendo Power magazine. I had played one other Mario Kart game before, on the Game Boy Advance. It didn't impress me because it was hard to control. Mario Kart: Double Dash, on the other hand, is very easy to control, and the action and excitement are ever-present. As a racing fan, I was pleasantly surprised to find a terrific physics model in this game. Yes, the loveable characters and the racing circuits are cartoonish, but for every racing fan that's still a kid at heart, this is a great game to own and play.

The Next Entry in the Mario Kart Series

I was always a fan of Mario Kart games, and when I heard the GameCube version was coming out, you could imagine that I was pretty excited. I received this game as a gift (coupled with the bonus disc), and yes, I'm content with it, but overall, it just didn't impress me the same way the N64 version did. However, this is still a fun game that has a lot of cool things going for it, and it's especially a blast at large gatherings.

Graphics: The standard Mario Kart style. However, they seem a little bit more cartoonish than in the 64 version. The backgrounds are very nice and have cool details as well. 8.5/10

Control: Very similar to the N64 version, driving-wise, if you've played that before you should pick it up easily. Even if you're new to the MK series (and also with the addition of the second driver), the controls are intuitive and simple. 9.25/10

Gameplay: This is where I find MK:DD lacking a little bit behind MK64. While it is cool having a teammate on your team, it can often be a disadvantage when playing with another person, or even when you're alone, having to control a lot of things. It's usually not a hassle, but there are always a few moments where you're longing for the N64 gameplay. 8/10

Sound: The music is cute and upbeat, typical Mario style. The sound effects are also interesting. 8.75/10

Satisfaction: Overall, you will have fun playing this game. However, the amount of time you put into this game will be based on how much you enjoy it, and sadly, for some people, that doesn't warrant more than a rent. If you enjoyed Mario Kart 64, there's a very good chance you will enjoy Double Dash as well. 9/10

Overall, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is worth at least a rent, and if you decide to buy it, you get this bonus demo disc included. Most of the games are available for sale now, so if you find one to your liking, you should be able to find it at most places. I hope my review was helpful, and happy gaming!

...Our son received this as a gift for his 9th birthday. It was an instant success. Our 5 year old is even into it. He is learning to drive the courses.

There is enough variety and action with this game to give it staying power, at least in our home. Based upon our boys reactions everytime they play, we are sure it is one of those games we will be taking along with us.

Enough entertainment and challenges for everyone of all ages.

Yet another hit for Mario and his friends!

Gamecube explodes back into action with double dash

First off, I would like to say that this is one of the best games for game cube. Single player mode has great replay value, actually the game itself has the best replay value out of any game i've ever played. The game itself is improved - more stuff to unlock -> karts, players, battle stages. And the game is much more intense. I find it a lot harder to catch up from 8th place - The 150CC mode is so much harder than the old mario kart, and I find it more fun (yet sometimes frusterating). The power sliding with L and R is so amazingly good that I can't stop using it.

OVERVIEW:
PROS: Everything - more intense, amazing graphics, more characters, modes, battles. Play with TWO players on a kart. Work as a team - have fun for hours - great replay value

CONS: OK, I am absolutely serious that the ONLY con i find in this game is the BLOCK FORT level in battle mode. I must say the old one had so much excitement - you could have your own bases, and travel up on the 1st or 2nd tier. The battle in the new mario kart lacks this presence - you will agree if you have played both games. It is something you just can't explain.
(even that was long it was only one con)

I must say though, that there is a new "bomb-omb" battle that is very addictive.

BREAKDOWN: Get the game- you will have fun with until gamecube is long outdated.

Excelent, but not perfect

I give the game 5 stars 'cause the game's rating does not make justice to this great game... but talking with the truth I give the game 4 stars for some reasons. The game is a little short, like many games that are made today, but is does have the same length of his predecessors... wel this is a bit longer.
Also the visuals don't amaze me, in Super Smash Brothers Melee you have some of the characters that appear in MKDD but the characters in SSBM are much more detailed than in MKDD. this two are the only things that I dont like from the game but in general: This game ROCKS! it does have many bonus as you can see don below in other review and is fun like few racing games. And the best part is that if you have more than 1 control you can multiply the fun 2X 3X or 4X by kicking your friend's butts haha. I enjoy making my friend and my brother eat my koopa's shells, stealing their baloons (oh yes you can do it now) make them crash with giant bananas and watch them suffer!
Also the game have other two battle modes but I let you discover what are they about.
A interesting thing of this game is that if you have the broad band adaptor every gamecube you will play this great game, then 16 humans can play at the same time (2 per kart) in 8 different GC and 8 defferent TV's... I hope one day I'll experience all that that excitment :D
So if you like the other two Mario Kart, then you will love this one and you must buy it 'cause is one of the few games that Nintendo is releasing and worth the price you pay for it... I hope Nintendo starts climbing pronto from the hole they put themselves.

One of the best games ever made

Dear mario kart fans. First I would like to say this is one of the best games ever made. I was a little hesitant about this game when I first heard about it. I loved mario kart64 and I thought that the programmers at nintendo could not match mario kart64. I was totally wrong. This is the best mario kart that nintendo has come out with. I beat the game in a two weeks. But the point of the game is not to beat it. The point of the game is the multi player action. All the roommates in the house play the game and we just love it. We are always playing the game and trying to beat each other. Mario kart double dash is a shrine in the house. We always have visitors over at the house that have never played. After they play in our house they are hooked. Use this game as a multi-player game and have fun.

What happened to the BATTLES?

Being a HUGE fan of Mario Kart 64, I was excited to purchase the new Gamecube version. But what I couldn't wait to play the most were the BATTLE stages. My friends and I have so much fun on the "64" version so I thought for sure that the new gamecube battle arenas would be even more advanced and exciting to play.
Boy, was I wrong.. It is very disappointing. There is really nothing special to the new battle arenas. Why couldn't they make just ONE good arena? I would have been happy.. They are all mainly flat and boring.
Double Dash is even more cartoonish than "64". It has very vibrant colors and good graphics. All of the tracks seem short to me. I haven't uncovered any special features yet, so I hope to be surprised to find great shortcuts and added tracks as I continue to play.
It is very challenging in 150cc mode and they added the new twist of putting another character to your kart. Overall, I still have lots of fun playing it even though at this point I still like "64" a bit better.
The "bonus disc" is fun.. It has little games for you to play and preview..It gives you an idea of what other games you might like to purchase. It is a treat to play the variety of games on the disc. Pick it up with the "bonus" if you are able.

It's not the 64 one but it's still great racing

In my opinion Mario Kart are one of the better racers, besides Need for Speed. I like the hyper-realism of something like Gran Turismo or Midnight Club 3 but it's kind of boring cause you just race period. Mario Kart has gameplay elements that actually make you interested in the race. It feels slightly slower than the 64 version but it still looks great.

Story: No story literally. Basically you have racers that want that gold cup and go through different race sets to do it. Old favorites return like Rainbow Road which looks more stunning than the old one and some new ones.

Graphics: Very nicely detailed. Areas like Rainbow Road are simply great to watch but then you have to actually watch the road. Others look rather bland like souped up 64 versions instead of complete overhauls.

Sound/Music: Traditional voice one-liners like "let's-a go!" or "Yoshi!". The music has that nice bubbly catchy music but it's not catchy. What the?

Gameplay: The big change from 64 to Double Dash is right in the name: you have 2 racers per kart now. So Mario is teamed with Luigi, Peach is with Daisy(Luigi's chick I guess), and Baby Mario with Baby Luigi and others.

If you get a red homing shell but don't wanna use it, move your guy to the back and get something else until you need it. The specials are roughly the same with the backwards ? which derails you, homing red shells, ever-travelling green shells, awesome-but-inexplicable blue ones(I have no idea how they work, I just fire them).

Courses in a way are a little complicated than in the past. You'll be bumping into walls a lot and even falling into pits/water which is incredibly frustrating especially when it's such a sharp curve with very little turning room.

There's plenty of secrets to be found and shortcuts that you can explore but this game as usual best works with multiplayer which you'll get your fun's worth in bucket loads.

Mario Kart: Double Dash for Gamecube like the good old days

Mario Kart: Double Dash for Gamecube like the good old days. This is one of the classic games that went on to define fun multi player racing games. Mario Kart returns to Gamecube with some new ammo. In Mario Kart Double Dash you can pick a partner and race through crazy courses as you compete in tough races. Choose from a huge cast: Luigi, Peach, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Wario, and many more. The new and fun thing about this game is that each kart holds two racers, and you can switch between the two. Racers can swap places at any time, and up to eight players can participate in a linked game using a broadband adapter. This is classic Nintendo that shows you can never underestimate Nintendo.

For a limited time only, you can get the special edition game that comes packaged with a free bonus disc which includes playable demos for Mario Party 5, F-Zero GX, Fire Emblem with special content, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III--Rebel Strike, and Sonic Heroes as well as movies for 1080: Avalanche, Kirby Air Ride, Pokémon Colosseum, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, NBA Live 2004, and SpongeBob SquarePants.
