This game was very good but after trying to complete one of the missions I was forced to look up the cheats. Also the game consists of very few missions, and haven gotten this game as a gift, I soon got bored of it.I only rate this a five because it had very good graphics and sound. I also rated this a five because of the diversity of the missions because in some cases you were flying a bomber, and others manning an anti-aircraft gun, or commanding a tank, and so fourth.

RENT, DO NOT BUY!

For the price of $49.99 plus shipping and or tax, you'd expect a game to take someone a few weeks or at least a few days for the hardcore gamers. Call of Duty: Big Red One, took me only about 3 hours to beat on hard. Not saying that the game was easy, but that it was too short. Consisting of a mere 13 missions, Big Red One fails to deliver a game worth buying. Luckily for me, I received the game as a gift. But still, I felt sorry for the person who bought it for me, paying for full price for a game that isn't even worth the price of a greatest hit.

Still, the game play is above par. Big Red One's mechanics and controls are a step up, which make gameplay smoother and more enjoyable than Finest Hour. As for the missions, other than the fact they are too few in numbers, are rather fun but easy no matter which difficulty. Unlike Finest Hour, where the player is surely challenged by each of its missions; something you could imagine what the real soldiers experienced.

Like other console first person shooters, Big Red One lacks an offline multiplayer mode. Which is a big let down, seeing that not everyone has a network adapter (I bought my ps2 on launch) to play online. An offline multiplayer mode like the ones found on N64 games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark would be a step up for first person shooter games such as the Call of Duty series.

In conclusion, Call of Duty: Big Red One doesn't live up to standards. While the game play is meaningful, it doesn't provide much replay value at all. A trip to Blockbuster or a visit to Gamefly would be wiser than dishing out a ridiculous $49.99.

Please, grow up.

Okay, let's get a few things straight. I am an atheist. I like this game. I could go into Amazon's book section and rate every "Holy Bible" a 0 because I don't agree with them. However, I won't. Amazon's review system is made for people to review items for quality, fun, and usability. It is not designed to allow people to jam their religion down other's throats. Please, objectively review this game.

Graphically, this game looks wonderful. The motions of the characters are fluid, and look realistic. The weapons look real, and even the shells and muzzle flash are realistically modeled.

In the gameplay department, I was blown away. I've played lots of FPS's such as Battlefield 2:MC, Halo 1&2, More MOH games than you can beat with a stick, and this was just amazing. The storyline moved me in a way I have never been moved by an FPS. Every weapon fires realistically, recoil is accurately modeled, and the entire experience is just amazing.

Finally, the sound is awesome. If you've watched G4, they had an Icons special on this game. They took every weapon to a firing range and recorded its sound with multiple microphones.

In light of all these factors, and by objectively reviewing this game, I deem it worthy of a 5.

I can't say this is better than version I. It is rather slow and it lacks the adrenaline rush of the earlier one. Also the music lacks drama associated with the historical theme of the game. I did not notice any new features to the game. Get it to complete the series but not as a stand alone game. I am not comparing this to the PC versions as I have not played them but I still feel that the MOH series overall beats COD.

A good game, but with some disappointments

First of all, I should say that the game is a good one. It has some great graphics, fantastic gameplay, good feel of the environment and intense and realistic WWII battles. It also sticks to history, that's good. It has some new features for games of the sort which other previous games didn't have such as crouching, leaning, tank missions, shooting down planes, and a level were you actually fly on an American Bomber. Your squad mates are good soldiers which is another boost and after a difficult episode in a level there are checkpoints which automatically save your progress.

There are some negative aspects in this game too. Sometimes when lying prone you literally get stuck with objects. It's quite frustrating when you have completed a mayor part of the game without any near checkpoints. Another defect in this game is that American soldiers are far more better than the Germans, especially the Big Red 1 characters. Maybe it's true, but they get hit five or six times and they get back on their feet and continue fighting. They never die unless their death makes part of the story. Some also said that the game is too easy. I figure out that that depends on the difficulty level.( There are three difficulty levels: I played it in the middle level, and it's difficulty was moderate.)But these are little defects that won't matter a lot.

There's one thing which I really was disappointed about. The game is short. You are actually enjoying the game when suddenly you find out that you've finished it. I took about 2 months to finish it. Besides, from other reviews, I came to know that the Xbox and PC versions were a lot longer. This game would have been a lot more enjoyable if it had been a bit longer.

Summary:

Goods:

-Good graphics
-Exceptional battle experience
-Good gameplay
-New gameplay features
-Checkpoints
-An intellegent squad

Bads:

-You sometimes get stuck with objects
-American soldiers are far more better than German soldiers and Big Red 1 soldiers never die unless due to the game procedure.
-The game is TOO SHORT.

Finally this is a good WWII game to buy.

I loved this game. It gives you a chance to realize what real people really did. I have a lot more respect for soldiers after playing this game. You start as a private in a squad in the First Infantry Division, or Big Red One. The AI is very good and the way your squadmates flank and run, duck, jump is just amazing. The weapons are easy to learn to use. You try to protect your squadmates thru 13 missions about an hour and 15 minutes apiece, tops. You do 2 beach landings, take an airfield, take two towns, and take out nebelweefers and 88's and other artillery. It is not worth 45 or 50 bucks because you beat it so fast. You should rent it once or twice to beat it, and then when the price drops run out and buy it.

sweat game better than the first one

first of all this is a great game!kind of short but still great.awesome graphics and sound.you start the game off with a prologue mission.then you jump right to desert missions.then valley and village missions.and then missions in the snow.the missions are pretty long and involve alot of thinking.you get to drive tanks, boats, planes, and jeeps.you even get to blow peoples heads off with a flack gun!it's a really hard game to play especially when there is like 15 tanks shooting at you.deffinetly worth the money.might still want to rent it first.

This is a great game. The only thing that is bad which is what almost everybody else is saying is that it is too short. It's not as short as some, but it still is. I liked that they put the North Africa and Sicily missions in it though, I didn't think anybody would ever make a game with Sicily missions in it. But I think they could have added a few more missions in it. I mean, you'd think that they would know to put at least a few more in it like from the previous Call of Duty games. Like the Rhine river bridge thing, and the mission when the Allies take the city of Aachen. But there are several good things to this game. The weapons are very cool. The .30 Cal is probably my favorite. The Thompson isn't as good as it was in Finest Hour same with the M1 Garand. But the rest of the weapons are cool. The one thing I like most about the COD series is the grenades, where you only have to push a button to throw one (instead of like on most of the MOH series where you had to switch to the grenades then throw it). I'm glad they actually put the D-Day mission on here this time too, instead of like on COD: Finest Hour, they didn't even bother to put one of the biggest European missions on the game. But overall, this is a great game, I suggest buying it. Don't even screw with renting.

I think this is the second best game of the year because of it's really good graphics and the fact that it's a war game.My favorite thing about this game is the weapon selection and when you shoot an enemy you actually see blood come out of them. This is probably the most realistic looking game i have ever played.I give this game five stars for it's excellent graphics.

Better then the first by far.

I thought this game was alot better then the first. Well about 70% of your misssions were in a tank and it got tedious. So I picked this game up and I was tottally blown away. Theres more of a story this time it concentrates on 1 unit instead of branching off like the first. This game also lets you fight battles on land, sea, and air. I would reccomend this game to anyone who likes action or anybody wanting a good game.
