PS2 was good, but after November, Xbox is better.....

First off, PS2 WAS a good system. Now, most of its hits are going to Xbox. Hits such as Metal Gear Solid 2, Baldur's Gate, Medal of Honor: Frontline, and most of PS2's other big names. The only two games Xbox isn't getting is Grand Theft Auto (Sony bribed the developers to keep it exclusive to PS2, darn them, but it ends in 2004), but you can get it on PC. Final Fantasy? Who needs it? Its good, but it alone isn't worth buying a PS2 for. Xbox has Mechassualt (best Mech game ever, and NOT on the PC), Halo, Dead Or Alive 3, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Blinx (I love that game!), Shenmue 2, Oddworld: Munches Oddyssey, House of the Dead 3, Sega GT 2002, and Panzer Dragoon Orta, some of the best games known to man, as exclusives! Plus, many PS2 games ported to Xbox will have extra content, such as new levels, new extras, etc. Buy an Xbox, and you will be getting the cream of every crop. Buy PS2, and you will be getting the sloppy seconds of many games (like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which will support Xbox Live, but not Sony's online plan). If you want online games, don't even bother with PS2, it will not be the best one out for online games. Several games, including Timesplitters 2, will not include online gameplay, becuase it was to hard for the developers of the game to set up.

So what if PS2 has a bigger library? 80% of those games are not worth buying, while the xbox is seeing a good deal of EXCLUSIVE greats coming in the future. Don't buy PS2. trust me.

Hello, I am updating this reveiw. In the paragraph above, it originally said "better library". I apologize, it was a typ-o.

I have some more things to say. No, the PS2 online is not "free". Many big games, like Final Fantasy XI, will be charging a monthly fee. Also, PS2 online isn't not at all secure, and so you can expect cheaters and hackers running rampant on the servers, like on the Dreamcast. Xbox Live is totally secure, and will require only one $9.95 fee. Plus its free for a year. There will be many PS2 online games that will require there own monthly fees. Also, expect little innovation in PS2's future games. All of the big innovative games are coming to Xbox in spades in 2003. Like Fable, Halo 2, Sudeki, Steel Battalion 2, Lamborgini, Crimson Sea, Ninja Gaiden, and others.

So, it all comes down to this: do you want the Xbox, or the over priced Portstation 2? You decide, but I would suggest Xbox if you want the best, most cutting edge games around, Xbox will be the one to get!

I realy like the ability to play the old playstation games as well as the ps2 games. If not for that feature I never would have bought this machine. With this feature you can be certain you will always be able to find a game to play.

Great system, great games, way overpriced.

.... Already out is GT3, which as you know comes with the PS2 in this pack. This game is great. For any racing fan its a must have. Soup up your cars however you want to, custom up the shocks the engine even the rims. Pick from a wide veriety of 160 + cars from many manufacturers. this game features graphics that almost reach photrealism. GT3 and PS2= The ultimate gaming deal.

Overpriced, Overhyped

Playstation2 is overpriced and overmarketed console with just a few good games. Have you seen shelves in electronic stores lately? They are full of PS2 consoles- nobody buys them! Also you never know if you will get one of those defective PS2 consoles. You better of buying dependable Dreamcast which is as powerful as PS2 and coming up with new good games all the time.

This is the best system out there. It is superior to the xbox and gamecube and should not be overlooked because it came out a year ago. This is a great bundle and should be on everyone's wish list.

Very disappointed in quality

I finally caved in and bought the PS2 Gran Turismo value pack. I had planned to buy an Xbox or GameCube for the latest technology in game console but was tempted by the many games out of Japan available for the PS2.

Out of the box, I was disappointed in the quality of this Sony product. There was scratch on the surface, and when I popped in the Gran Turismo DVD-ROM, I was horrified to hear very loud noise from the PS2's DVD drive. I took out the DVD and put it back in. It was slightly better, but the constant noise (probably from an incorrectly balanced spinning mechanism) really rattled me. I've bought two games and rented two others, and all have experienced the same problem. Interesting enough, playing movie DVDs reduced (but not eliminated) the noise.

Another big disappoint from the beginning was how slow the system is. The 4X DVD drive feels like the first-generation, 1X DVD drive on my old PC. Games load slowly. Once loaded into memory, they play well. The controller is rather uncomfortable after extended use. The two analog sticks are located awkwardly.

The PS2 is a huge overpriced disappointment for me, an otherwise Sony fan. I'm not sure if I will keep the console.

The Best Game with the BEST system!!!!!!!!

Not only is PS2 the greatest system out there, Gran Turismo 3 is the best racing game of all time. PS2 is awesome because it has so many features and great games. People complain about the price but if you do the calculations of the features, you are getting a great deal. For a good DVD and CD player like PS2 (...), and PS2 can play PS One game which is (...)for the system. Plus its like getting 128 bit games for free, and what person doesn't like free stuff. The X-Box is bulky, ugly, microsoft doesn't know how to make games, and the controller is huge. The gamecube has no features like DVD or CD, and the games are kiddie. If you are looking for a system, get Playstation2 because it is the future of video games!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cant do much worse

This is a very poorly designed console. The dvd player skips constantly, the system has several bottle necks and several developers have said that it was too definately to program for and have left to program on the much more user and developer friendly microsoft x box and nintendo gamecube. Also there have been several problems with manufacturing that sony still hasn't fixed: out of the five people i know with a ps2, fours stopped working due to hardware defects and some have ruined game disks but sony's customer service charged three of them around a hundred dollars each to have the problems fixed. This console also requires several additional add ons such as an controller slot expander ($...) for four player games, a modem ($...) for online games, and a harddrive ($...) before it can even come close to the features and it still wont have have hdtv support, dolby digital surround sound and graphics capability that the new microsoft xbox offers right out of the box for same price. It has some great games already out but improved versions of them are coming out for the xbox and it can't match the future lineup or graphics of games that xbox and game cube offer.
