Older Gamers will be disappointed

Ugh. I was really excited about this game. I kept hearing about how "open" it is and how good the graphics and story are. Well, to start...this is not an "open" game. Elder Scrolls Oblivion is an open game. I was hoping this would be like that but set in the crusades with more of a thief type of character. Instead it is more like a next gen graphic take on the original Prince of Persia games. The objectives are very set. Besides the fact you can run around the cities as much as you want (and climbing and jumping is a lot of fun at first), you are not really able to mix around the missions or as in Fable develop different types of characters or make any important choices at all.

The action is very, very predictable. You do the same things over and over. The attacks feel scripted (you don't feel in control). You go in to these towns. You rescue citizens in the exact same manner (over and over). You kill the soldiers in the exact same manner (and they stupidly wait their turn to attack you). Besides the breath-taking graphics, the game play almost feels like a game from the early nineties. It is almost like Sid Meier's Pirates at points where you feel like you are doing the same swordfight of the same guy endlessly with the exact same outcome over and over. Cool back in 1987.

The acting is horrible and you are not able to bypass these really long, boring scenes that give you information that is meaningless (since you still end up doing the same thing after each scene). After a while I muted the game and in no way did it deter my progress. I would go get snacks whenever somebody started talking.

Maybe being an older gamer is a problem. I might have higher standards...maybe I have seen it all before...maybe I will always be dissapointed when expecting something new and different. who knows. All I know is that this game has a great concept...great animations...great graphics...but the story and gameplay are terrible. If it didn't look so good, I would say it feels very expected and dated.

I am not so upset by the Michael Crichton aspect...if they would have used it as a cool gameplay device that is. For instance, the Darkness does a similarly weird switch and yet it is still cool gameplay. In this game, the twist is boring and also used as an excuse to cover up why the game isn't "open." At least a game like the Darkness has a good story, so even if it is fairly easy to win it, I was still interested. It is a shame because the Crusades are rich with really good stories. It wouldn't have been hard. Instead it is a bunch of cartoony characters and stupid quests you don't care about (jumping around the city after flags??? Is this Mario Bros.?)

Sadly, it feels like they spent all their time getting the world together and forgot that you also want to have fun playing within that world. The first hour is a lot of fun just running around, but then it is a bore.

Do not buy this game. On 360 or PS3!

This is the most boring... Mundane... idiotic... game you're bound to play this year. 64 bucks to sit and watch trite cutscenes and jump into action to see the game slowdown to about 20 frames per second and massive screen tearing. Not to mention loads of POP UP from the texture work. It's bad on Ps3 and it's bad on the xbox 360... both versions got shafted... if you have to have one, though.. go with the ps3 version as the game runs a tad more stable.

But, I advise against it. Highly, advise against it. This is the worst 60 bucks you can spend on a game this year. Buy Uncharted for Ps3 instead. It's a true masterpiece. As anyone who's giving this perfect scores is still in the new phase of buying it. Everything's great when you 1st own a game or a movie or a car or a girl... Then it gets bad and the flaws come out. This game is 1 giant flaw. It's Ubi-soft, folks. Don't ever buy a game from Ubisoft.

getting boring

The Prince of Persia games are some of my favorite of all time. Therefore, I was eager to play Assassin's Creed, which was created by the same team of developers. Sadly, I feel they have missed the mark this time, a fact made even more disappointing because the game really did have a great deal of potential.
First, the highlights. The graphics are very good. They have done a fantastic job recreating these old cities. The gameplay feels fresh, for about 2 hrs. Getting an assassination target, figuring out how you will carry out the deed, and then sealing the deal is a process that is quite satisfying... the first time. Perhaps even the second time. But herein lies the problem: you are asked to perform essentially the same set of tasks _nine_ times. The fact that your character becomes more powerful as you perform more tasks (I saw no reason to actually _run_ from guards), coupled with game AI that is, quite frankly, embarassingly bad, means that there is virtually no challenge to the game after the first 2 hrs. For this reason, I found that the Fun factor, an essential ingredient in any game, was gone much too soon.
Summary: an ambitious game that feels like it was rushed out the door too soon.

Could have being much more,....

The good:
What you heard from many is true, The game games environment are huge and great. Fantastic visuals and his habitants makes this living world believable. Our assassin's movements are fantastic and easy to use. The fighting is very good and stealth assassinations are satisfying when executed.

The Bad: I mean what could have being improved.
I will point out many things but don't get me wrong this game is good but it could have being a real greatness if:
AI, the enemies AI is lame at some point If you assassinate a guard, the one next to him may not react giving you the time to assassinate him as well.
You cannot save anytime you want. When you reach a view point it will save automaticly or when you find a flag (you can collect them all).
If you do like I did, spend time killing most of the guards in the kingdom to make my passing trhough easier but I went to a view point, saved my game, turn the PS3 later to keep going and all the trouble was in vein. They weren't replaced with better vigilance, the were bhrought back to life. So no need to do this so you know.
It gets repetitive lot. after 4 mission, you keep doing the same,...Go to the view points,..pick pocket, eve drops, interrogation and saving citizens if you want to and of course assassinate your target. It all sounds lots of fun, It is in a certain way, but you get to the point where you say AGAIN???

What needs to be improved for the sequel, looks like it accordng to the ending.
-No more saving points but the ability the save whenever you want.
-Better AI, the a guard at 20 ft standing if front and looking at you will indeed DO SOMETHING if his buddy is killed.
-More variety in the missions, side quests.
-Somekind of stealth mode or sneaking mode.
-being able to play during the night time. like quests that must be done during the night and kills....

conclusion, this game is good but could have being so much more.

Sorry... but I was really expecting so much more from the hype. This game has really nice graphics but, it's well.. boring. Same thing over and over, and is it ever dark in these cities? I like the Thief Deadly Shadows game a lot better than this. Played it for a day then wished I'd done anything but play this game. Big hype and as usual big disappointment.

Worth the $60

Awesome game, end of story. It has great graphics, great voice acting, a great story(so far at least), and it's darn fun to play. It's one of the most highly anticipated games of the season, and it's definitely one of the best.

Very lame for all the cool ads

I am a casual gamer who buys games based on what he sees on TV. I saw the ads, it looked great. I checked GameSpot, they gave it 9.5/1o.

So I bought it.

It turned out to be big disappointment. Maybe it was because this game set too high expectations.

Graphics are great and some of gameplay elements are awesome. However, it gets very dull very soon. IT same repetitive tasks. AI sucks. And story which could have been its best story in ages is delivered very poorly. You basically have to read long long notes on screen to figure out why you are killing your targets or whats going on...

SPOILER WARNING ---- And the biggest disappointment is the ending.

Very good game!!!!

(note: I own all 3 consoles and decided to go with the PS3 version because I am on my 3rd XBOX in less than 12 months and my PS3 (or wii) has yet to do me wrong, I have yet to have any glitches, some framerates are faster on XBOX which make the game run smoother, but I will take my PS3 over that any day because it has yet to crash on me)

First and foremost, I believe this to be a very, very good game! It has hints of several games within it, but with a very cool story line.

The whole thought of being part of a crusade and assassinating key figures in that role is quite intriguing.

On to the gameplay:

The story begins with details on your moves and attacks so you can get familiar with them. It is tricky at first, but like all games, about 10-15 minutes in, you have it down! They give you plenty of time and short missions to get familiar with the moves.

The story: You are actually a guy who lives in today's society that is a bartender. A research is being done on you that links memories from the past through genetics. The guy is actually genetically related to Altair (the assassin). The scientists are trying to determine specific things by going through the memories of this gentleman as they pertain to the crusade. So, you are actually playing the game in the mind of the gentleman related to Altair. I think that is a very nice twist and very refreshing to see some creative ideas from the makers of the game.

You go through some very easy missions (just to get familiar with the game) and then it happens, the integrity of Altair is questioned and he is stripped of his assassin's creed. He is without weapons and must journey forth and regain his weaponry and moves. (This is where the REAL game begins)

There are some really cool twists along the way that pertain to society in Altair's time as well as his relative in the future. The landscaping is quite gorgeous! You can roam freely wherever and as often as you like. Collecting flags becomes an ideal way to engage more throughout the game as it creates more fighting based on where they place some flags. Leave no area uncovered or you will miss a lot of them. The acting and voiceovers are really good. Learn to eavesdrop, pickpocket and have all-out combats with soldiers. You can climb almost anything. The leap of faith is very cool. You must perch on a certain amount of buildings to get en "eagles eye" view. This also loads your maps each time you perch certain buildings in that area. This is crucial that this is done so you can strategically position yourself for attacks and to know exactly where you are going. You are constantly watched by guards and need to be mindful of this so that you can "blend" (X button) in with the crowd and not be detected as easily. So far, the challenges are not too difficult, but are getting tougher as I go along. Learn your moves and attacks and be fluent with them...you will need them down the road. Your missions are lengthy! I find this to be a very unique game and I am completely sold on it. I don't want to give a whole lot away and spoil some surprises along the way, but i hope that this has been informative.

It is definitely worth the buy!

Clearly this is not a game for little kids, due to the bloodshed and assassination plotting. The game mechanics are very well put together, although there are a few glitches. The graphics are very nice looking. The story is unique, and good, but mediocre voice acting. The gameplay is very interesting to start with, but later it becomes repetitive. (Find info, assassinate, repeat.) Although there are other things you can do like "Save the Citizen" there's not much to do besides the story line. Bottom line: Good story. I don't recommend buying this game new, but I do recommend to play it if you get the time/chance, although its not high on the list.
