MotoGP should brighten up any motorbike simulator fan on a rainy after noon

As the officially licensed game of the MotoGP circuit, MotoGP 06 does ok. As the officially licensed game of the MotoGP circuit, Thq could have gone a bit deeper. The game modes, Grand Prix and Extreme 600, 1000 and 1200, are each simply a string of races, back to back, where you earn points or money and progress through the rankings. MotoGP 06 doesn't make an effort to capture any of the rivalries or team control of the GP circuit like we've seen in EA's NASCAR franchise, and it would have been nice to be pulled further into a sport most Americans are unfamiliar with. MotoGP lacks personality.

In the single player game, you'll start out on the GP circuit and take on either the 2005 or 2006 season, which is basically a different order to the tracks you race. GP tracks are replicas of the officially licensed tracks and require quite a bit of finesse on the brakes. Burnout fans beware -- the MotoGP franchise is simulation not an arcade game, so be warned!. There's no turbo boost or anything fancy, just racing.

After you earn enough money in the 600cc Extreme mode, you'll earn enough money to buy a 1000cc bike, and then, down the line, enough to buy a 1200cc bike. All this earning money stuuf is becoming boring in game, can't they think of something new for crying out loud!

Visually, MotoGP is an improve over the other moto gp games also by Thq on Xbox. though not without a few problems. The road surfaces look particularly good, but I am a sad case like that, and I found myself pausing every now and then to take a glance at cracks in the asphalt, . MotoGP 06 features neat looking clouds. You'll notice some pop-in with bushes in the distance, and far-away objects don't look nearly as good as the riders or the track close-up. Pop up, I thought that issue would have died along with the original Xbox, but I guess not. All in all, MotoGP 06 is quite a good racer just like its predecessor, but far from perfect.

The soundtrack is an adequate blend of techno tunes that is thankfully limited to menu screens by default. The music is one area that Thq really need to work on. So mighty slap on the back to Thq for creating more of the same in the form of MotoGp. It's by no means perfect, although it should brighten up any motorbike simulator fan on a rainy after noon when you cannot go out on the real thing.

This is just crazy, I'm seething!

MotoGp 2006 would be acceptable if it were not for all the bugs. Screen tearing is not a genuine bug and does not cause my 360 to crash, so I can live with that. Not being able to see other riders artwork while online seems strange but again does not cause the game to crash so I can live with that, besides which I`m not into designing my own art. What does bother me though, is loosing saved data. When MotoGp loads and goes into demo mode, should the player press start it does an auto save and saves over all your previously saved data before it has a chance to load your original data. This is just crazy, I'm seething!

A True Racing Game

I will have to echo McAllister's comments. MotoGP '06 is the best racing game I have ever played and I have played quite a few. It is as close to realism as it can get. The most impressive aspect of this game is not only the graphics but the game's ability to replicate the feel of a Racing Bike on a track with the exception of the occasional bug in your visor. If you are a couch potatoe who has never raced a bike then do not purchase this game; if you are an avid motorcyclist then you MUST buy this game.

I think I'd have better luck pulling a I dream of Jennie head bob to get the bike to stay on the road. This game takes the fun out of the first time open and play factor b'cos you can't keep the bike on the road. This one takes a lot of practice and isn't on of those games you can have your friend play with you if he/she hasn't played b'4, so that kills the fun aspect of the multi player game. Believe me when I say if your the type that gets upset when playing videos games this one you might wanna skip. The only reason I learned to control the bike is b'cos after buying the game and getting frustrated after several days of trying to keep up with 15 other bikes, I had a choice.........either use this fine 360 game as a beer coaster or force myself to finger out how to control the bike and get my $60 worth out of the game. If I could have done it all over again I would have bought Quake 4.

Just found another fault with Moto Gp

CAN'T SEE OTHER PEOPLES' CUSTOM LOGOS ONLINE

1) If you bring your custom bike to an online race only you can see your logos etc, anyone else racing only sees your base color, thats it. All that work for nothing (let's hope for a patch) (ps- checked this problem out with about 20 different players, all could not see anyone elses logos)

2) Its XBOX 360 gentlemen, we'd appreciate more than 10 layers of logos (which is actually 5 b/c if you want your bike to match on boths sides you have to split the logos up to 5 per side. ps- good luck matching logos (No- Mirror does NOT Help)

3) Go ahead a create a custom bike- I hope you like it because its the only one your gona have- yep- your design is the only design you have unless you want to delete it and start fresh. AND when you want to apply your design to a different bike- too bad- the graphics are ALL OFF and it takes FOREVER to get them into position. DID I MENTION YOU CAN ONLY CUSTOMIZE 1 FREAKN' BIKE!!! (ps-don't feed me bs about creating different profiles and having 1 bike per user- thats just to much work for what we should get-again, its XBOX 360 we're talking about)

I've had this game for 3 days, but these things must be addressed. You just can't tease us with Customizable Bikes and then cut us off when we finally want to show em off.

Thq an Xbox 360 update fix patch or what ever they are called please.

MOTO GP 2006 IS WAAAY OVERATED AND SIMPLY NOT WORTH YOUR OR MY CA$H. IN FUTURE I SUGGEST THQ TEST THEIR PRODUCTS PROPERTY BEFORE SHIPPING AS THERE MANY FAULTS WITH MOTO GP 2006. YOU WOULD THINK THAT MICROSOFT WOULD HAVE SOME RESPONSIBILITY TO IN WHAT GAMES THEY ALLOW TO SHIP. SOME WORDS FOR THQ, GET SOME MORE TESTERS ON BOARD AND FIX THOSE BUGS!!!!!

can't draw - can't produce

k just to recap

1_The wheel chain of the bikes does not have movement. Well that kills things a little.

2_In rain you have only tyre slicks. Guys, you need to sharpen up your skills.

3_If you bring your custom bike to an online race only you can see your logos, anyone else racing only sees your base colour. They cannot see your home made art.

4_This year's MotoGP 2006 Xbox360 cements the foundations laid in titles gone by, without actually building anything of substance upon them.

5_I only bought this because I really like racing games and there just isn't much out there for the 360. I shouldn't have, not much to add that hasn't been said in previous posts, just wanted to get my rating in and hopefully save someone else $60.00

6_Harry wrote: I think it's an utter dog's breakfast of a game. MotoGP2 on Xbox was so much better.

7_The tracks lack the same thought and attention to detail which lets the experience down. The tracks look empty, there is little going on and what is going on does not look as detailed as the motorbikes, and this has the knock on effect of killing the whole experience and destroying what ever convincing illusion could have been achieved with MotoGp 2006 Xbox 360

8_The soundtrack is an adequate blend of techno tunes that is thankfully limited to menu screens by default. The music is one area that Thq really need to work on.

Eye Candy With Sour Center

Great graphics, yes. Gameplay BITES. In addition to bug mentioned in other reviews, it is very difficult to control your bike. I mean, "somebody greased the track with shortening" difficult!

I played the free demo, and admittedly it was tolerable. What do you expect from a pre-release demo, right? Then MotoGP06 hit the shelves and (thankfully) I RENTED this title for 5 days... I PLAYED it for 1 day, and it collected dust on my shelf the other 4 days (I think at one point I actually decided to mow my lawn instead).

Very disappointed with this lackluster effort in gameplay.

i liked it until i found out my disk was broken

Xbox 360 owners have gone through dry spells that rival those of the Sahara Desert. New games come out as frequently as intelligent statements out of George W. Bush. I've found myself testing the waters of all sorts of games and I never thought I'd leave the anchor resting for so long when I picked up THQ and Climax's Moto GP '06. What is essentially the Xbox 360's first simulation racer is also one of the top overall racing titles. Moto GP '06 offers some of the best thrills and deadliest spills of any racer out there.

Before I dive too deeply into telling you all about the great things concerning Moto GP '06, one must be aware: this is not an easy game to pick up and play. THQ and Climax have created a game that is punishing to newbies of the motorcycle racing scene. The feel of riding a motorcycle in this game, though extremely realistic, is also quite difficult at first. One must learn the intricacies of riding a motorcycle before it is possible to truly appreciate the realism found in this game. For example, turning properly is something that simply must be mastered. Learning where the perfect line for each turn is the key and figuring out the right time to let off the gas and apply the front and rear brakes is only the first step. To truly pull off a great turn, one has to know when to kick back into acceleration and power out.

The bulk of time spent playing Moto GP '06 will surely be devoted to the Career Mode, where it is possible to participate in one of four different circuits. The first, Grand Prix, is the only one that is initially available. I found it to be the least fun, the most difficult, and longest to get through. Each Grand Prix course takes place on one of many different tracks located throughout the world, such as Laguna Seca. Once that circuit is complete, gamers are treated to Moto GP '06's true gold, the Extreme circuits. These three circuits test your racing skills to the...well, extreme. You'll race through more exotic and attractive locations throughout the bright city streets of Tokyo, and across Tuscany, where the only thing crazier than the sense of speed are the turns found at the bottom of steep mountain hills.

Each race is a pretty exciting string of events. To prepare, you can scope out a course's difficult spots by completing challenges and qualifying for pole position. I think it's safe to say I've never played a game where qualifying was so necessary, because the action on the track becomes brutal once the race actually starts. Though the AI isn't as brilliant as I had hoped, it requires you to stay on pace and up to speed. Like I said before, part of the trick is learning how to turn properly.

Without a doubt, one of the biggest perks of playing through the Career Mode is the level of customization one is given. At the start, you'll customize everything from your rider's helmet style to a creative logo to use in online racing modes. Then you can use prize money to purchase new bikes and parts. On top of all of this, you can customize your rider's base skills by earning experience points after completing the challenges on each course, and of course, winning races.

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of special modes outside of the Career Mode. There is a multi-player mode for racing fans as well as an Xbox Live setup, but for players going solo, there are really only Career races. That's not to say there aren't a ton of those. In fact, I'd say there are almost 70 races to go through, but once that's done, you've played through the full Moto GP '06 experience.

Visually, Moto GP '06 is a top-tier title on the Xbox 360. It has some of the prettiest backdrops I've ever seen, with detail simply overflowing from every single location. From the sand kicking up when you botch a turn to the reflections off of buildings in Barcelona, there are plenty of sights to see here. One of my favorite effects is the slight camera panning when one pulls off a high-speed turn, resulting in a feeling that simulates the G-force of pulling off such a turn. Of course, the sound of the game is nice as well. The ear-splitting engine sound effects and screeching tires are as well-done as any racing game and the soundtrack isn't half bad either.

Overall, Moto GP '06 isn't a game I'd recommend for everyone. Despite its excellence in so many areas, it just isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. The steep learning curve is the first obstacle and the second is the lack of gameplay modes. Still, for racing fans and for anyone who liked previous Moto GP entries, this should be one of your next Xbox 360 purchases. The beautiful graphics, the realistic feeling of the controls and the thrilling courses should be enough to keep you playing for quite a while.
