Justifying the PS3's price tag.

When I bought this game the day it was released, my expectations were awry at best. Much more goes into a game besides hype and pretty visuals. My doubts were soon relieved, as i can now say Virtua Fighter 5 is the best fighting game i've ever played. Unlike other titles, this game replicates real-life fighting styles ( a different one for each charecter), which adds uncommon depth to this kind of game. The visuals are gorgeous, even in standard definition, and is really the first title to show the capabilities of the PS3. It's easy to pick up and play, but mastering it really makes the game more enjoyable. Upon playing this game, $600 will seem very reasonable for high quality experiences like this.

My Favorite PS3 Game

This is an immensely entertaining game. Perhaps the most impressive aspect is the range of skill levels it accomodates; huge, immediate fun for the casual gamer yet impressive depth for those who take their Virtua Fighting seriously. Coming from a family with extensive Real World Martial Arts experience, it is fascinating to explore the strengths and weakness of the various characters. Just as in the real world of martial arts a small, skilled opponent can take out a big brute---but you better practice! The game is very well-balanced; any character can be a stud or dud, depending on your skill level.

After a long day at work, what could be more fun than powering up the PS3 and beating the tar out of "Jeffry," the obnoxious Australian Pancratium expert? I tell you, he deserves every thumping he gets!

Some magazine reviews have bemoaned the lack of on-line play. In a perfect world, yes, on-line would be a nice addition. But this is the ultimate fast muscle twitch game. Often the winner is determined by a last-moment, split-second kick. The quality of game play would suffer over the internet. So enjoy Virtua Fighter 5 for what is is: a gorgeous, highly replayble adrenalin-pumping slugfest.

One of the best fighters out now!

Virtua Fighter 5 is extremely addictive because there are so many things to do. The fighting is very well balanced that is easy to pick up but hard to master. I really liked the quest mode where you fight other characters and earn money and prizes. Choosing costumes and accessories for your character is fun and time consuming since there are many options to chose and buy from. New characters like Eileen are extremely fun. The characters are all really good and fun to control. The fighting is very fast paced and smooth. The only problem that I can think of is that it can get a little bit repetative playing the same characters over and over again. But the versus mode is very fun with a friend. Also, online mode would have been nice, but there is too much to love with this game to give it a lower score. VF5 is a definite buy for anyone looking for a really good game for the PS3;this game might be able to save the console from failing.

Great game

Awesome game for fighting-game-enthusiasts. Beautiful, deep, and lets face it, lack of online-functionality is not a con. Fighting games up to this day have all survived and done very well without this function, and every-time I read a review about a fighting game that includes this feature, it's always criticized because the lag makes it unplayable with any level of seriousness.

Look elsewhere if you're a button-masher, or suspect you have ADD.

Excellent for your PS3 Library

I was a little nervous when I bought this game, because I really didn't know if I would like it or not. Well, When I put it in my PS3, it was just plain amazing. The graphics are gorgeous and the Quest mode is fun and challenging. I am very happy with my purchase.

Virtua Fighter 5 out shines it's predecessor by miles even though it doesn't have the tutorial mode from the 4th Evolution Ed. This game has improved graphics and faster game play.

Deepest most rewarding fighting series of all time.

Scrubs and button mashers beware. You'll start this game up play for 15 minutes without doing anything worthwhile and go "THIS GAME SUCKS!" and return to your mortal kombat or Dead or Alive. You're just too impatient to learn a quality fighter. You can't just pick this game up and be knock heads. You have to train a bit. Each character has a distinctive style and all the major martial art styles, even some that aren't real martial arts (luchadore and american wrestling) are represented. This game is the most well balanced fighter as well. Unlike most fighters with 2 or 3 really good characters and a mediocre remaining cast, Virtua Fighter 5 contains the most well balanced character roster of any fighter. Attacks that open up the potential for big damage aren't safe and can be punished by evade or after guarding (Usually by throws, Unless the opponent buffers escapes (It can get deeper still).) In the most popular fighting game in America, Tekken 5, big damage moves are safe on block and can lead to boring overly defensive gameplay, with each player dashing back just waiting for whiffed moves. In VF5 if you turtle you're going to get punished. This series isn't for everybody, but it is for those that want the deepest 1 on 1 experience in fighting. The game really shines when playing against other experienced players.

If you think a fighting game needs a storyline or CGI movies then plz pass on this game. The main point of this game is playing to your potential.

Great addition for the VF series

VF5 is already a great addition to the series. Each player has more moves and look great in HD graphics.
Two new fighters are in the game. El Blaze and Eileen. Each one plays differently and impressively with their individual fighting styles and makes welcome additions for the roundup.
There are 17 fighters in the game.
In addition to the Arcade mode, there is still the quest mode. This is what will make the home counsel experience of VF the real draw. You go to different Sega arcade maps and battle it out for the number One spot.
As you fight and win, you gain red orbs which allow you to customize your character. Each character can has four areas of customization such as costume and hair color.
The one annoying thing is the announcer commentary. The English translation is hilarious when you're not sure if you're supposed to be laughing. It adds a little flavor to the experience that the series is known for.
There is no online play but the detailed quest mode should be satisfying enough. There are plenty of challenges to keep you busy and the complexity of each character will add the hours to your gaming experience.
VF5 maintains the excellence that the series is known for. It's important to know that you cannot throw fireballs or rip off the heads of your opponents. This is called "Virtua" fighter for a reason. It's a great game to own for the PS3.

Depends on What You Are Looking For

The graphics on this game are totally mind blowing! To be honest I have not even tried the one player mode. This game is great, and I mean great for two things. If you have some buddy come over and start trash talking your PS3, maybe saying how super his Xbox 360 is and your (very expensive) PS3 is garbage, well, you just whip out the ol' Virtual Fighter 5 and not only show this dweeb the mind blowing graphics, but you then can proceed to kick his silly butt all over the screen in the game with the sexy little blue hair girly in a cage match. Totally fun multiplayer with many, many, and I mean many, button, stick, trigger combos. Got friends? Get this game! Got no friends? Maybe pick up that lame Lost: Via Domus game.
